A current account (also called a cheque account) is a convenient and safe method of handling money. Your salary can go straight into your account, and these days more and more people are paid by direct credit instead of in cash. Cheques, postal orders and money orders (including International Money Orders) can be paid direct to your account also.

Nowadays banks in the UK do not return your cheque with each statement, so it is advisable to keep a record of transactions on the counterfoil or stub.
