After that she punched the door and rushed out angrily with the word that she would live with her mother. Please help me. Is this a promise or a threat?" "Do you think there are differences between the two?" his friend asked. "Yes, quite a lot. 1.Ways to Keep Fit
Everyone wants to keep fit. So they are eager to know how to keep fit.
In my opinion, there are three basic ways to keep fit:
Firstly, keeping a balanced diet is of importance. There are two extremes. Some people just binge (大吃大喝) while some keep starving for fear of gaining weight. A balanced diet means that we need to control what we eat to get enough nutrition and energy.
Secondly, doing exercises is necessary. Choose one sport you like and then keep it. As long as you keep your body moving, u can burn out calories.
Last, I think, keeping a good mood should be helpful. Bad feelings are just like illnesses in affecting our health.
2.How to Keep Healthy
Nowadays more and more people are concerned about their health. But how to keep healthy? Different people may give different answers to this question. In my opinion, it is essential to do the following.
First, it is absolutely necessary to take some exercise every day. Research shows that getting plenty of exercise make the heart beat faster and the lungs work harder. This strengthens the heart, reduces the chance of heart attack, and helps lower blood pressure. That's why more and more people are becoming active in various kinds of sports and exercises.
Second, it has been proved by medical researchers that what people eat affects their health. They advise people to eat more fruit and vegetables and less meat such as beef and pork because meat contains more fat than poultry and fish. Fat can build up in the arteries, block the flow of blood, and cause a heart attack or stroke.
If people follow these three ways of keeping fit, they greatly improve their health.
3.The sports activities I like most
范文1
Of all the sports, I like table tennis best. I think it is not only a sport but also an art, because it is a game that needs strength and skill.
Some people think that playing table-tennis needs little strength, but I don't think so. In playing table-tennis, we should judge the direction of the ball, and hit it back with great strength so that we can win the game. At the same time we need to pick up the ball which falls to the ground. So after one game you will be very tired if you have tried your best.
Though I can't play it very well, I still show great interest in it. It can build our bodies and train our brains. What's more, it can help us learn to cooperate with each other. So I like it very much.
范文2
My favorite Sport is basketball. I have been crazy about those basketball stars ever since I was little.
Basketball requires speed, height and skills. I run, jump, switch, and try to hit! All parts of my body are exercised in this sport. Basketball also needs quick reaction and decision. I should keep an eye watching as an eagle, decide and judge quickly as a leopard, and run for it as a wolf. Further more, basketball is a team work. So I learn to cooperate with others in this game. I played basketball more for about 5 years now. I make many good friends from playing it.
Basketball will be my best friend in the future and my best memory about school life
Sports
Frankly speaking, I am not a sports lover. Most of time, I would rather stay at home, reading, surfing online than do sports.
But there is one sport I love to do in summer. That is swimming. When I was young, I often followed my elder brother, playing water in summer. I felt so close with water. Therefore, every summer I like swimming, enjoying the time of staying with water.
Swimming benefits me a lot. Firstly, it can help me to get rid of the summer heat. As you know, the summer in Wuhan is horribly hot. But I can feel so cool when I am in water. Secondly, swimming can help me to relieve stress. When I’m lying back on the water, I can feel very free and relaxed. The worries can go away with my stroke with water. Last, swimming is also an effective way to keep me healthy and slim.
So swimming is a beneficial sport to me and I love it.

Should Men and Women Be Equal?
People have different ideas about this issue, Some people say that men are superior to women in ability because men are physically stronger, do most of the hard labor in the world and hold most important positions. Other people believe that women have the ability to compete with men. There have been many famous women state leaders and great scientists in the world. We should fully carry out the principle “to each according to his work” so that the enthusiasm of both men and women for work can be fully aroused.

Directions: There are three passages in this part. Each passage is followed by some questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A, B, C and D. You should decide on the best choice and blacken the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet.
Passage 1
Questions 1 to 5 are based on the following passage:
The fourth-graders atChicago's McCormick Elementary School don't know Chinese is supposed to be hard to learn. For most, who speak Spanish at home, it's becoming their third language. They've been heating and using Chinese words since nursery, and it's natural to give a “ni hao”when strangers enter the classroom.“It's really fun!” says Miranda Lucas, taking a break from a lesson that includes a Chinese interview with Jackie Chan. “I'm teaching my mom to speak Chinese.”
The classroom scene at McCormick is unusual, but it may soon be a common phenomenon in American schools, where Chinese is rapidly becoming the hot new language. Government officials have long wanted more focus on useful languages like Chinese, and pressure from them -- as well as from business leaders, politicians, and parents -- has produced a quick growth in the number of programs.
Chicago city officials make their best effort to include Chinese in their public schools. Their program has grown to include 3,000 students in 20 schools, with more schools on a waiting list. Programs have also spread to places like Los Angeles, New York City, and North Carolina. Supporters see knowledge of the Chinese language and culture as an advantagein a global economy where China is growing in importance. “This is an interesting way to begin to engage with the world's next superpower,” says Michael Levine, director of education at the Asia Society, which has started five new public high schools that offer Chinese. “Globalization has already changed the arrangements in terms of how children today are going to think about their careers, The question is when, not whether, the schools are going to adjust.”
(76) The number of students leaming Chinese is tiny compared with how many study Spanish or French. But one report shows that before-college enrollment (报名人数) nearly quadrupled between 1992 and 2002, from 6,000 to 24,000. Despite the demand, though, developing programs isn't easy. And the No. one difficulty, everyone agrees, is having enough teachers. Finding teacher “is the challenge,” says Scott McGinnis, an academic adviser for a language institute and a Chinese teacher for 15 years at the college level. “Materials are easy comparison. Or getting schools funded.”

Passage 2
Questions 6 to 10 are based on the following passage:
Many private institutions of higher education around the country are in danger. Not ail will be saved, and perhaps not all deserve to be saved. There are low-quaiity schools just as there are low-quality businesses. We have no obligation to save them simply because .they exist. But many thriving institutions that deserve to continue are threatened. They are doing a fine job educationally, but they are caught in a financial difficulty, with no way to reduce rising costs or increase revenues (收入) significantly. Raising fees doesn't bring in more revenue, for each time fees go up, the, enrollment (注册人数) goes down, or the mount that must be given away in student aid goes up. (77) Schools are bad businesses, whether rmblic or orivate, not usually because of bad management but because of the nature of the business. They lose money on every customer, and they can go bankrupt either from too few students or too many students. Even a very good college is a very bad business.
It is such colleges, thriving but threatened, that I worry about. Low enrollment is not their chief problem. Even with full enrollments, they may go under. Efforts to save them, and preferably to keep them private, are a national necessity. (78) There is no basis. for arguing that private schools are bound to be better than public schools. There are plentiful examples to the contrary. Anyone can name state universities and colleges that rank as the finest in the nation and the world. It is now inevitable that public institutions will be dominant, and therefore diversity (多样性) is a national necessity. Diversity in the way we support schools tends to give us a healthy diversity in the forms of education. In ah imperfect society such as ours, uniformity of education throughout the nation could be dangerous, ha an imperfect society, diversity is a positive good. Eager supporters of public higher education know the importance of keeping private higher education healthy.
6. In the passage, the author asks the public to support_____ .
A. private higher education in general
B. public higher education in general
C. high-quality private universities and colleges
D. high-quality state universities and colleges
7. According to the passage, schools are bad businesses because of_____.
A. the nature of school B. poor teachers
C) bad management D. too few students.
8. The phrase “go under” in the second paragraph is closest in meaning to _____.
A. have low fees B. get into difficulties
C. do a bad ]ob educationally D. have low teaching standards
9.Which of the following statements is TRUE?
A.There are many cases indicating that private schools are superior to public schools.
B. The author thinks diversity of education is preferable to uniformity of education.
C. A high-quality university is always a good business.
D. Each time fees are raised, the enrollment goes up.
10.In the author's opinion, the way that can save private schools lies in_____.
A. full enrollment B. raising fees
C. reducing student aid D. national support#p#副标题#e#
Passage 3
Questions 11 to 15 are based onthe following passage:
According to a recent surv, ey, employees in many companies today work longer hours than employees did in 1979. They also take shorter vacations than employees in 1979. It seems that Americans are working harder today than ever before. Or are they? A management consultant, Bill Meyer, decided to find out. For three days, he observed an investment banker hard at work. Meyer wrote down everything the banker did during his long workday. At the end of the three-day period, Meyer reviewed the banker's activities with him. What did they find out? They discovered that the man spent 80 percent of his time doing unnecessary work. For example, he attended unnecessary meetings, made redundant (多余的) telephone calls, and spent time packing and unpacking his two big briefcases.
(79) Apparently many people believe that the more time a person spends at work, the more he or she accomplishes. When employers evaluate employees, they often consider the amount of time on the job in addition to job performance. Employees know this. Although many working people can do their job effectively during a regular 40-hour work week, they feel they have to spend more time on the job after normal working hours so that the people who can promote them see them.
A group of headhunters (猎头) were asked their opinion about a situation. They had a choice of two candidates for an executive position with an important company. The candidates had similar qualifications for the job. For example, they were both reliable. One could do the job well in a 40-hour work week. The other would do the same job in an 80-hour work week just as well. According to a headhunting expert, the 80-hour-a-week candidate would get the job. The time this candidate spends on the job may encourage other employees to spend more time at work, too. Employers believe that if the employees stay at work later, they may actually do more work.
However, the connection between time and productivity (生产率) is not always positive. (80) In fact. many studies indicate that after a certain point, anyone's productivity and creativity begin to decrease. Some employees are not willing to spend so much extra, unproductive time at the office. Once they finish their work satisfactorily, they want to relax and enjoy themselves. For these people, the solution is to find a company that encourages people to do both.
11. What is the main idea of this passage?
A. Many people work long hours but do not always do a lot of work.
B. Most people can get more work done by working longer hours.
C. Most Americans work 80 hours a week, and some work even longer.
D. People can make more money by working longer hours.
12. The management consultant wanted to fmd out
A. how hard the investment banker worked during his work hours
B. when people spent time doing unnecessary work in their office
C. if people needed vacation after working hard for a certain period of time
D. whether Americans were really working harder than they had done before

Martin E. P. Seligman, psychologist, educator and author, in his book Learned Optimism says: “One of the most significant findings in psychology in the last twenty years is that individuals can choose the way they think.” You can choose to think positively and see the good things around you, or you can choose to think negatively and only see the negative things around you. It’s all up to you.
It is advisable, however, that you think more positively. A positive outlook in life makes you happier, healthier and even wealthier in the long run. Of course, stuff happens and unrelenting optimism can sometimes be contrived and irresponsible. But being optimistic is not about unrelenting optimism; it’s about trusting that good will happen while also preparing for the worst.
Here are a few things optimists do differently you can emulate today to look on the brighter side of life.
1. Optimists Count Their Blessings.
It all starts with counting your blessings. While others moan and groan, optimists take stock of the good things around them. It does not stop there; optimists also take inventory of what’s not so great. They are grateful for obstacles, hardships and even failures because these are anchor points for resilience and wisdom. Optimists know what doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger.
2. Optimists Make the Most of all Opportunities.
Optimists believe in making optimal use of the opportunities life throws at them. They are not blind, in denial or na?ve to the risks and dangers involved in taking chances, but rather look at the bigger picture, the resources available and then make every opportunity count for a much brighter future full of possibilities. Optimists are simply positive, visionary realists, not idealists.
3. Optimists Believe in Themselves.
While others cower and doubt their own abilities, optimists believe they are good enough just the way they are and constantly strive to get better. They trust their own intuition and abilities when carrying out their day-to-day activities. Optimists simply won’t judge or criticize themselves against a set of arbitrary, unrealistic, third party beliefs and ideals, such as those from popular media or peers. They don’t need everyone’s approval; they just do what feels right in their hearts.
4. Optimists Believe in Others.
Optimists not only believe in themselves, but also in other people in their lives. They inspire others to be the best they can be. They know that when you treat a person as he or she is, that person will remain so. But if you treat a person as he or she ought to be, that person will become what he or she ought be. Optimists simply see sparks of good in others — sparks that everyone else won’t see — and work to turn the sparks into a roaring flame.
5. Optimists Use Positive Self-Talk to Reinforce Actions.
Optimists do not allow present circumstances or environment to dictate their attitude and mood. They use positive self-talk to express their hopes and to reinforce good attitudes, outcomes and actions. If things are not going too well, they say things like “I know there’s a problem here, but I can solve it” and keep going. When they succeed at something, they say things like “That’s just as I had anticipated; I worked hard and it paid off.” In a similar situation, a pessimist might say: “Boy, was I lucky to close that deal!”
6. Optimists Turn Envy and Jealousy into Catalysts for Success.
Everybody gets a little jealous sometimes. While others burn with envy, optimists realize that the universe does not owe them anything because someone else is successful and they are not. However, the universe might owe you something when you work hard to better yourself. Instead of burning with anger and jealousy, optimists use other people’s success as motivation to work hard and bring success.
7. Optimists Don’t Make Bad Experiences a Self-Fulfilling Prophecy of What Lies Ahead.
Just because you failed or suffered today doesn’t mean you will fail or suffer tomorrow. Good things come to those who persist and overcome challenges. Optimists do not let past misfortunes determine their future success. They know that bad experiences make you stronger and the path to success clearer.
8. Optimists Choose Not to Blame Others.
People tend to point fingers at others when things are not going well. They blame their family, politicians and even the economy for their problems. Optimists choose not to blame others because they know others don’t hold complete control over them. There is always something you can do to make things better. Change starts from within, and where there is a will there is always a way.
9. Optimists Forgive.
Optimists know better than to underestimate the power of forgiveness. Martin Luther King Jr. fought hate with love. He recognized the past is the past and forgiveness was the path to a better future for everyone. Optimists, therefore, forgive and forge ahead. They know tomorrow is another day and another opportunity to correct what needs correcting and create a brighter reality.
Are you an optimist?

Ever wonder how certain women always seem to get the good men, somehow?
They get the ones that are not only single, successful and attractive; but whom also have a strong heart and a good head on their shoulders.
They tend to find those that aren't afraid of commitment and opening themselves up to the emotional aspects of a relationship - and the ones that know their masculinity (and/or lack thereof), yet okay with who they are as a person.
Such amazing men may be few and far between, but in actuality - that statement is only true if you believe in it!
With the following knowledge of the top 10 alluring ways to seduce a man, anyone with a bit of charm and curiosity can catch the attention of most everyone in the room, male and female alike.
Get ready to catch some attention in your net of allure...
1. Be Yourself:
This is and always will be number one because with or without the following ways to allure your man; - if you pretend to be someone or something you are not, just to hope that he may find you interesting, does not work and does not last.
2. Be Around:
Involve yourself in a local group he takes part of, strike up a conversation with the person beside him, or even occupy yourself with something productive within his vicinity to catch his attention.
That is to say, be careful not to overwhelm or suffocate the poor chap, but simply make your presence known and he'll be more likely to take notice and have you on his mind.
3. Be Sincere:
Be honest and genuine with everything you do and say. This goes for anything in your life, for the most part. Guys are more insightful then we give them credit for; many of them can recognize when their lady isn't keeping things real with them, and most do not appreciate it.
If he doesn't like you for who you are and what you do then he isn't worth your time anyway. If he does though, he'll appreciate you that much more for being honest with him from the beginning.
4. Be Inspirational:
What better way is there to be inspirational then to simply have fun with everything you do in life!? Teeth may be good for chewing with yes, but why would we also have a set of lips if not to use them in sync to smile with?
Be happy and wear a smile everywhere you go and don't forget to smile with your eyes as well!
You'll be amazed how addicting it can be, how much your entire person will radiate because of it, and how many people seem to almost gravitate towards your brilliant personality.
5. Be Attractive:
This is the step most get completely stressed over because it seems no matter how hard we fuss over our appearance it just doesn't seem to be the way we want it.
It doesn't need to be so difficult.
As long as you don't arrive looking like a complete banshee with coarse hair sticking out of every hole in your ensemble and a single tooth, you should have no trouble. A lot of men actually prefer women with a more natural beauty about them.
This is easily done with perhaps a touch of makeup, a cute top, and a pony-tail to give you one example.
6. Be a Team Player:
In other words, be supportive.
Join in on activities you both enjoy doing such as sports, cooking, camping, and/or video games. Accompany him to a concert for a band your both really into or ask him to help you piece together that jigsaw puzzle you've been working on for weeks.
Any number of things for that matter! Find out what the two of you have in common and plan an excursion to make it happen!
Better yet, get out of your comfort zone and experiment with something you may have never tried before that he is into. This will show a great willingness to bond with him that he'll surely take notice of.
He may even be willing to return the favor at some point and try out some new things for you!
7. Be Inquisitive:
Take things naturally of course and ask a question here or there when the timing is right, no need to rush into information overload. But by asking him questions on what makes him who he really is, will make him take notice. Keep them open-ended to encourage some honest and true responses, opinions and concerns.
8. Be Mysterious:
Again, let things happen with a natural progression, including the way you reveal pieces of personal information. Everyone has skeletons of some width, weight and height stashed away, but these things are not important to the current progression of the relationship.
Unless of course you feel that they are, in that case, be sure in your heart that speaking to him about your dirty little secret is really something you wish to do at this moment.
Otherwise, let them be known when and if the time is right to do so; if your in it for the long haul you'll want to hold on to all that you can anyhow so that you still have new things to talk about twenty years down the road!
Plus, guys totally dig an air of mystery; it builds sexual tension and makes the relationship that much hotter.
9. Be Confident:
This goes without saying; be an overall amazing person with unabated confidence and an upbeat charisma, and you'll outshine just about anyone! Confidence equals sex appeal and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
10. Be Patient:
Take circumstances one day at a time, as the old saying goes "If It Is Meant To Be, It Shall Be."
Forcing the relationship will only stress you out and leave you feeling hopeless. These things take time and only the best things are worth waiting for.
I could continue this list all the way to tomorrow but I think the top 10 is a lot to digest for now. If your really interested in making a name for yourself inside his mind then click to the next page and learn how you can make him desperate to call you his!
