I didn't know the man in front of me that morning. But I did notice that we both walked a little straighter, a little more proudly, as our daughters held our hands. We were proud but apprehensive on that important day. Our girls were beginning first grade. We were about to give them up, for a while at least, to the institution we call school. As we entered the building, he looked at me. Our eyes met just for a minute, but that was enough. Our love for our daughters, our hopes for their future, our concern for their well-being welled up in our eyes.
You, their teacher, met us at the door. You introduced yourself and showed the girls to their seats. We gave them each a good-bye kiss, and then we walked out the door. We didn't talk to each other on the way back to the parking lot and on to our respective jobs. We were too involved thinking about you.
There were so many things we wanted to tell you, Teacher. Too many things were left unsaid. So I'm writing to you. I'd like to tell you the things we didn't have time for that first morning.
I hope you noticed Beth's dress. She looked beautiful in it. Now I know you might think that's a father's prejudice, but she thinks she looks beautiful in it, and that's what's really important. Did you know we spent a full week searching the shopping malls for just the right dress for that special occasion? She wouldn't show you, but I'm sure she'd like you to know that she picked that dress because of the way it unfurled as she danced in front of the mirrors in the clothing store. The minute she tried it on, she knew she'd found her special dress. I wonder if you noticed. Just a word from you would make that dress all the more wondrous.
Her shoes tell a lot about Beth and a lot about her family. At least they're worth a minute of your time. Yes, they're blue shoes with one strap. Solid, well-made shoes, not too stylish, you know the kind. What you don't know is how we argued about getting the kind of shoes she said all the girls would be wearing. We said no to plastic shoes in purple or pink or orange.
Beth was worried that the other kids would laugh at her baby shoes. In the end she tried the solid blue ones on and, with a smile, told us she always did like strap shoes. That's the first-born, eager to please. She's like the shoes – solid and reliable. How she'd love it if you mentioned those straps.
I hope you quickly notice that Beth is shy. She'll talk her head off when she gets to know you, but you'll have to make the first move. Don't mistake her quietness for lack of intelligence. Beth can read any children's book you put in front of her. She learned reading the way it should be taught. She learned it naturally, snuggled up in her bed with her mother and me reading her stories at naptime, at bedtime and at cuddling times throughout the day. To Beth, books are synonymous with good times and loving family. Please don't change her love of reading by making the learning of it a burdensome chore. It has taken us all her life to instill in her the joy of books and learning.
Did you know that Beth and her friends played school all summer in preparation for their first day? I should tell you about her class. Everybody in her class wrote something every day. She encouraged the other kids who said they couldn't think of anything to write about. She helped them with their spelling. She came to me upset one day. She said you might be disappointed in her because she didn't know how to spell 'subtraction.' She can do that now. If you would only ask her. Her play school this summer was filled with positive reinforcement and the quiet voice of a reassuring teacher. I hope that her fantasy world will be translated into reality in your classroom.
I know you're busy with all the things that a teacher does at the beginning of the school year, so I'll make this letter short. But I did want you to know about the night before that first day. We got her lunch packed in the Care Bear lunch box. We got the backpack ready with the school supplies. We laid out her special dress and shoes, read a story, and then I shut off the lights. I gave her a kiss and started to walk out of the room. She called me back in and asked me if I knew that God wrote letters to people and put them in their minds.
I told her I never had heard that, but I asked if she had received a letter. She had. She said the letter told her that her first day of school was going to be one of the best days of her life. I wiped away a tear as I thought: Please let it be so.
Later that night I discovered a note Beth left for me. It read, 'I'm so lucky to have you for a dad.' Well, Beth's first-grade teacher, I think you're so lucky to have her as a student. We're all counting on you. Every one of us who left our children and our dreams with you that day. As you take our youngsters by the hand, stand a little taller and walk a little prouder. Being a teacher carries with it an awesome responsibility.

How do you difine yourself? As a mother, father, daughter or any one of a myriad different titles? Or do you define yourself by other's perception of you? Do any of these come close to your own knowledge, your personal experience of whom you really are?
In your quiet moments, in times of inexplicable joy, have you had the overwhelming and yet clear and lucid feeling of total invincibility -- a feeling that nothing can hold you down, that you can accomplish anything and everything if you put your mind to it? Well, that feeling is not a random one.
What is ti that gets in the way of your exquisite power?
In fact, the infinite power that is naturally present in each and every one of us by virtue of own consicousness, can be rendered ineffectived if not tended to properly. The stress of our lifestyle, the pollution of our environment, and the collective stress of our world keeps us from functioning at our full potential.
But there are remedies: incorporate modalities in your lifesyle that effectively combat stress and help keep you centered. Some of these opinions are:
Be aware of what you eat, what you use -- both on yourself, and in your environment. Choose natural, organic products.
Live a life of kindness, compassion, and charity -- it keeps you connected to your center, your source, that infinite reservoir within you that is your powerhouse.
Don't judge people, or situation -- approach each moment with the potential of any number of possibilities.
To connect with your real nature that is unbounded and invincible, practice yoga and mediation
Once you are in touch with your true nature, then nothing is beyond your means-- you are truly empowered. And that is an accurate definition of you!

Good morning, ladies and gentemen. This is Li Hua from Senior Three. I’m here today to share with you a good lesson from an overseas Chinese student living in Germany. It is a true story.
After years of hard work, this Chinese student graduated with amazing academic achievements. Everyone thought he was going to get a good job easily and have a bright future. But to his disappointment, he was not even allowed the chance for an interview! The third time he was turned down, he couldn’t help telephoning the company to ask why they didn’t want him. The answer was simple, “We don’t hire dishonest people in Germany.”
What was wrong you might wonder? The truth is, shortly aften he arrived in Germany, this clever student found that it was easy to skip buying subway tickets. So, to save money, he often went without a ticket. As a result, he had been caught without a ticket in the subway three times.
From this story, we learn that we may get short-term benefits by dishonest means, but the truth will come out sooner or later and the cost is high. So remember: honest is the best policy.
That’s all for my speech. Thank you!

Goals are meant to be achieved. To succeed in life, think about how you can take postive actions every day to accomplish your goals. It may not be as difficult as it seems, but it definitely requires action. So, put your actions into overdrive(超速档) and make the most of your efforts.
You can truly make every action you take a positive one that builds momentum and propels you forward. You'll feel better about what you're doing, and your gusto(爱好,嗜好) for life will inspire those around you.
Turning Positive Action into a Positive Life
When you put your best foot forward in all that you do, you'll develop an intense passion that will be unmatched. Sometimes you may feel like sitting back and doing as little as possible, but you'll actually enjoy your life more when you are engaged in the things you love to do.
Life is more fulfilling when you are passionate about your work and family. Even though it may seem challenging to look at everything with passionate and positive eyes, such an outlook is possible. If you're unsure how you can summon more passion for a project or task, there is one tool that will help you build momentum by utilizing the power of a positive mindset(心态,倾向). So what is it? Positive affirmations!
What Are Affirmations All About?
Affirmations can help you take positive action by re-defining how you think and feel. In essence, affirmations are positive statements that activate your mind and encourage you to push forward. Once you implement affirmations into your life, negative, self-defeating thoughts will be a thing of the past.
If you need a positive thought, for example, you can say something as simple as, "I infuse my mind, heart, and spirit with past accomplishments, new ideas, and a fresh attitude." Constantly repeating positive affirmations will help you create a positive outlook in just about any situation imaginable.
Positive affirmations allow you to set your goals, envision them, and reaffirm them each time you state it. This positive statement only needs to be something you desire for yourself and through continued repetition, you can make it your reality. After all, words are powerful because they have the ability to elicit emotion and inspire action.
Affirmations are generally very simple, but they can help you make lasting changes in your life, one step at a time. If you are having a hard time finding the motivation, try an affirmation such as, "I am building momentum with each step I take." As long as your actions are congruent(适合的) with your positive mindset, you will begin to see and feel results nearly instantly.
Affirmations have the power to change the way you think and feel about yourself. Millions of people are using affirmations every day to help them become happier, healthier, and more balanced individuals. You can put your actions into overdrive and accomplish more in less time. After all, if words can move mountains, imagine what you will be able to do when your thoughts, attitudes and actions are aligned!

Good little girls ought not to make mouths at their teachers for every trifling offense. This kind of retaliation(报复,反击) should only be resorted to under peculiarly aggravating circumstances.
If you have nothing but a rag doll stuffed with saw-dust, while one of your more fortunate little playmates has a costly china one, you should treat her with a show of kindness, nevertheless. And you ought not to attempt to make a forcible(强制的) swap with her unless your conscience would justify you in it, and you know you are able to do it.
You ought never to take your little brother's "chawing-gum" away from him by main force; it is better to rope him in with the promise of the first two dollars and a half you find floating down the river on a grindstone(磨石) . In the artless simplicity natural to his time of life, he will regard it as a perfectly fair transaction. In all ages of the world this eminently plausible fiction has lured the obtuse infant to financial ruin and disaster.
If at any time you find it necessary to correct your brother, do not correct him with mud -- never on any account throw mud at him, because it will soil his clothes. It is better to scald him a little; for then you attain two desirable results -- you secure his immediate attention to the lesson you are inculcating, and, at the same time, your hot water will have a tendency to remove impurities(杂质) from his person -- and possibly the skin also, in spots.
If your mother tells you to do a thing, it is wrong to reply that you won't. It is better and more becoming to intimate that you will do as she bids you, and then afterward act quietly in the matter according to the dictates(命令,指示) of your better judgment.
You should ever bear in mind that it is to your kind parents that you are indebted for your food and your nice bed and your beautiful clothes, and for the privilege of staying home from school when you let on that you are sick. Therefore you ought to respect their little prejudices and humor their little whims(奇想,幻想) and put up with their little foibles, until they get to crowding you too much.
Good little girls should always show marked deference for the aged. You ought never to "sass(跟……顶嘴) " old people -- unless they "sass" you first.

Sarah came running in. "Look what I found." Over the top of the paper I was reading came a crispy(易碎的) , crumbling long object that caused me to jump. It was a snake skin that had been shed by one of our many garden snakes.
"Isn't it beautiful?" said my wide-eyed seven-year-old.
I stared at the organic wrapper and thought to myself that it really wasn' t that beautiful, but I have learned never to appear nonchalant(冷淡的) or jaded with children. Everything they see for the first time is elementary to their sense of beauty and creativity; they see only merit and excellence in the world until educated otherwise.
"Why does it do this?" Sarah asked.
Robert, ever the innocent comedian, said:"We have a naked snake in our garden!"
I also try to customize every opportunity to teach my children that there is almost always something beyond the obvious; that there is something else going on besides what they see in front of them. "Snakes shed their skin because they need to renew themselves," I explained. As is so often the case in my family, the original subject leads to another and another, until we are discussing something quite different.
"Why do they need to renew themselves?" Sarah asked.
Robert quipped:" 'Cos they don't like who they are and they want to be someone else."
Sarah and I politely ignored her brother. I suddenly remembered an article on this page many years ago where the writer was expressing her concept of renewal. She used layers of paper over a wall to describe how we hide our original selves, and said that by peeling away those layers one by one, we see the underlying original beneath.
"We often need to shed our skins, those coatings and facades that we cover ourselves with," I said to my now absorbed daughter. "We outgrow some things and find other stuff unwanted or unnecessary. This snake no longer needs this skin. It is probably too stiff and crinkly(起皱的) for him, and he probably doesn' t think he looks as smart in it as he once did. Like buying a new suit."
Of course, I' m sure this explanation won' t sit well with bonafide(诚意) naturalists. But Sarah was getting the point. As we talked, I knew that she began to comprehend, albeit slightly, that renewal is part of progress; that we need to take a good look at ourselves, and our rooms and schoolwork and creativity and spirituality, and see what we need to keep and what we need to cast off. I was careful to point out that this is a natural process, not one to be forced.
"Snakes don' t peel off their skin when they feel like it." I explained. " It happens as a natural consequence of their growth."
"I see, Dad," said Sarah and jumped off my lap, grabbed the snakeskin, and ran off.
I hoped she would remember this. That often, in order to find our real selves underneath the layers of community and culture with which we cloak ourselves year after year, we need to start examining these layers. We need to gently peel(剥) some away, as we recognize them to be worthless, unnecessary, or flawed; or at best, store the discarded ones as mementoes(纪念品) of our promotion to a better vitality or spirit.

What would you do if you failed? Many people may choose to give up. However, the surest way to success is to keep your direction and stick to your goal.
On your way to success, you must keep your direction. It is just like a lamp, guiding you in darkness and helping you overcome obstacles on your way. Otherwise, you will easily get lost or hesitate to go ahead.
Direction means objectives. You can get nowhere without an objective in life.
You can try to write your objective on paper and make some plans to achieve it. In this way, you will know how to arrange your time and to spend your time properly. And you should also have a belief that you are sure to succeed as long as you keep your direction all the time.
