Todd: What do you think about the zoo?
Dianna: I like to go to the zoo. I like to give all the animals names, like "Bert the Giraffe", but I wish the animals didn't have to be in the zoo, but I think it is good when zoos save animals, and help to make their populations grow.
Todd: Yeah, they can do some good things, definitely. Ah, what is your favorite animal?
Dianna: My favorite animal, ooh, let me think. I love cats, just as a pet but, besides I'd pick the coolest animal, I think I would pick probably a monkey.

Whether you favor Beethoven or Slayer, there is one thing I think we can all agree on: music makes life better. But here is the proof as science would have it, and it’s not just in the ways we think.
1. Listening To Music Reduces Stress
A lot of us intuitively turn to relaxing music when we are feeling stressed or tired. Perhapsunsurprisingly, we’re not just imagining things. Significant research backs it up. In particular, slow, quiet classical music is suggested to have the most soothing effect.
So if you have a hard time dealing with stress, compiling a playlist of some fitting classicalsongs could be a good idea. Or try listening to a relaxing, classical-style movie soundtrack.
2. Listening To Music Improves Endurance
Do you work out? Have you always felt like you perform better when you listen to music? Oddas it might seem, there has actually been a lot of research done on this subject. And sureenough, one study shows that music can increase endurance by 15%.
One theory is that the continuity of a classical piece helps you focus, which in turn allows youto persevere longer. However, another study suggests that it’s not the type of music, butrather the speed of the music—the beats per minute (bpm)—that matter. According to thestudy, the optimal speed would be 125–140 bpm.
3. It Can Make You Healthier
It might seem too good to be true, but some research suggests that there are measurablehealth benefits from simply listening to music. Listening to music can also release dopamine, often dubbed “the pleasure chemical”. You could perhaps substitute the pleasure achievedthrough eating your comfort foods by indulging in your favorite music, with none of thenegative health repercussions.
4. Singing With A Group Of People Makes You Happier
Ever thought people that sing in a choir look a bit…too happy? Well, as it turns out, it’s notjust your imagination. Science actually explains what makes them so happy. And the best partof it is, even less-than-great singers experienced the same positive effects.
What does this mean for you? Hopefully, that the next time you get the chance to have a sing-along with someone else, you take it, instead of worrying about how you will be received. It’svery likely to cheer you up! One of the studies listed also suggest that singing togetherincreases bonding. And don’t worry, if you feel like you’re just too shy, you can stick to singingin the shower. But just make sure you do it a bit more often.
5. Learning To Play An Instrument As A Kid Makes You More Successful Later
Research shows a noticeable correlation between learning to play an instrument as a child, and becoming successful later in life. So if you were always upset with your parents for forcingyou to play the violin—or like me, the piano—take a minute to be grateful. I just thanked myfather. One of my biggest regrets these days is that I never actually tried to learn to play thepiano properly.
6. It Improves Your Memory
The interesting part about the research is that it shows music helps your brain develop inmultiple areas, one of the most significant being your memory. So if you’re troubled by a badmemory, learning to play an instrument is something you should consider.
Life ... What is it?
See it in the colors of autumn,
A gentle snowfall in winter,
A sudden shower in spring,
The radiance of a summer day.
Behold it in the laughter
Of the young and the old.
Know of it in a surge of hope,
The blessings that are bountiful(丰富的).
What is life?
It is joy, awareness,
And the music within.

Occasionally, life can be undeniably, impossibly difficult. We are faced with challenges and events that can seem overwhelming, life-destroying to the point where it may be hard to decide whether to keep going. But you always have a choice. Jessica Heslop shares her powerful, inspiring journey from the worst times in her life to the new life she has created for herself:
In 2012 I had the worst year of my life.
I worked in a finance job that I hated and I lived in a concrete jungle city with little greenery. I occupied my time with meaningless relationships and spent copious quantities of money on superficialities. I was searching for happiness and had no idea where to find it.
Then I fell ill with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) and became virtually bed bound. I had to quit my job and subsequently was left with no income. I lived with my boyfriend of then only 3 months who financially supported me and our relationship was put under great pressure. I eventually regained my physical health, but not long after that I got a call from my family at home to say that my father’s cancer had fiercely progressed and that he had been admitted to a hospice.
I left the city and I went home to be with him.
He died 6 months later.
My father was a complete inspiration to me. He was always so strong that, for a minute after he drew his last breath, I honestly thought he would come back to life. I couldn’t believe I would never again cuddle into his big warm chest and feel safe no matter what.
The grief that followed was intense for all of us 5 children and our mother, but we had each other.
But my oldest sister at that time complained of a bad back. It got so bad after 2 months that she too was admitted to hospital.
They discovered that she had highly advanced cancer in her bones and that there was nothing that they could do.
She died 1 month later.
I could never put into words the loss of my sister in my life.
She was a walking, talking angel and my favourite person in the whole world. If someone could have asked me the worst thing that could ever happen, it would have been losing her.
She was my soul-mate and I never thought I would journey this lifetime without her.
The Moment Of Deliberate Choice
The shock and extreme heart break brought me to my knees. The pain was so great and my world just looked desolate. I had no real home, no money, no job, and no friends that cared. Not one person had even sent me a sympathy card for my loss.
I made an attempt of my own life and I ended up in hospital.
I remember lying in the hospital bed, looking up at the ceiling and seeing my sister’s beautiful face. She stayed with me all night long.
I realised during that night that I had a choice. I could choose to end my life or I could choose to live it.
I looked in my sister’s eyes and I made a decision not to go with her just yet. That I would stay and complete my journey here.
I also made the decision that, I wouldn’t just live any life. I would live the life that I absolutely LOVE and nothing less.
In that moment, the clarity that descended around me was like a light shining in a dark room for the first time. As if the earth’s plates had shifted under my feet and everything suddenly looked real for the first time.

"What's wrong? she asked. "Nothing," the husband replied, "keep reading your list."
The wife continued to read until she had read all three pages to her husband. She neatly placed her list on the table and folded her hands over the top of it."Now, you read your list and then we'll talk about the things on both of our lists," she said happily.
Quietly the husband slated, "I don't have anything on my list. I think that you are perfect the way that you are. I don't want you to change anything for me. You are lovely and wonderful and I wouldn't want to try and change anything about you.
The wife, touched by his honesty and the depth of his love for her and his acceptance of her, turned her head and wept.
In life, there are enough times when we are disappointed, depressed and annoyed. We don't really have to go looking for them. We have a wonderful world that is full of beauty, light and
promise. Why waste time in this world looking for the bad, disappointing or annoying when we can look around us, and see the wondrous things before us?

Life in the University-大学生活
Life in the university is not as satisfactory as what we had expected.
First of all, we are tightly hound by continual classes, excessive homework and exams; some students complain that we are becoming "exam machines". Secondly, the teaching method is boring; instead of lecturing, some teachers just "read" lessons. Finally, living conditions need to be improved; and food in the dining-hall is far from being attractive and tasteful.
In spite of all these adversities we still enjoy our life in the university. During the four-year university study, we can not only acquire a lot of book learning, but also foster various abilities. All types of extracurricular activities such as sports meets, speech contests, different social gatherings and dancing parties provide opportunities to make friends; many of these friendships may last a long time.
In short,we should value our life in the university. Four years is only a short period when compared with our whole lifetime. In the university we mature, and in the university we prepare ourselves for the real world. Although there are many things lacking, the four years in the university is a worthwhile period in our whole lifetime.

Todd: OK, Laura, I'm going to ask you questions about the post office in Hong Kong. OK, or just sending letters. How often do you write letters?
Laura: Well, when I was young, I wrote quite often to my pen pals, but right now, instead of sending a letter I usually send my friends e-mails.
Todd: Yeah! Me, too. How much does it cost to send a postcard in Hong Kong overseas?
Laura: Well, to Asian countries, it costs about two dollars, two Hong Kong dollars. To European countries it costs about three dollars.
Todd: OK, and when you send mail in Hong Kong, do you send it from your house, or do you..
Laura: Well, we have to go the post office in order to send letters or parcels.
Todd: Really, OK! Cause it's so crowded in Hong Kong that...
Laura: Well, Yes, Yes!
Todd: OK, and in Japan do you receive a lot of mail?
Laura: Right now, no. Well, because it's so convenient to use the e-mails or instant communication or telephone.
Todd: Yeah, OK last question. What time do post offices open and close?
Laura: Well, it depends on the size of the post office. For large one, so, they work longer. Like from nine in the morning until six, so for a smaller one, from nine to five.

The Blossoms Of My Newly Chosen Life
Since then I have begun to shape the most beautiful life for myself.
I now live in an adorable stone cottage in a stunningly green, luscious region of the UK amongst woodlands and lakes.
I have a deeply harmonious, joyful relationship with my amazing boyfriend, who’s gone through all this with me and we are very happy together.
I write a blog that inspires others to live the life that they love. It is what I know I was born to do and it truly makes my heart sing.
I am making new friends with beautiful souls all around the world.
I practise gratitude for my life every single day and I feel the abundance in everything I have now.
I spend quality time with the rest of my precious family and cherish every moment I have with them.
I have written a bucket list and am already manifesting so much of which I have always dreamed.
I connect with my heart often to ensure that I am always following my joy.
I love myself more deeply every day.
I live authentically now.
Waking Up
清醒
It took something powerfully transformative in my life to make me wake up. Wake up to some fundamental truths of life. This life is a gift if you want to accept it. No matter what the obstacle, you can make your life abundant with joy and you can live authentically.
Not a day goes by when I don’t miss my father’s huge character or my beloved sister’s gentle brown eyes, but I know that I will be with them one day for an eternity. What I have now is so precious and so fleeting that I must grasp the joy in every moment I can, and treat it as the gift that it is.

The desire for good health is universal. If a person feels ill all the time, he will in most cases old a pessimistic view toward things and lead a sad life. What's more, no matter how ambitious he could be, he might just be too weak to carry out any of his grand plans. Hence, though many people are seeking after wealth or power, they always attach the greatest importance to health.
Since a sick person tends to be unhappy, people worldwide have spared no efforts to slay healthy. They pay special attention to what they eat so that they get neither malnourished nor overweighed. Besides, people, especially, those engaged in mental jobs, create numerous indoor or outdoor exercises to keep energetic, eg. working in the field as gardeners and farmers, going to work on foot, cycling to work, having a walk after supper, climbing mountains, traveling, attending all kinds exercises in health clubs, etc.
To be healthy also includes being mentally healthy. It is another important guaranty for people to live or work well. So, experts suggest that we keep a calm, peaceful and open mind and try to avoid extreme emotions like fierce anger, extreme sadness and excitement. Therefore, exercises like Taiji Exercise, traveling, etc. which can benefit people both physically and mentally are popular not only in China but also in other countries.
As far as I am concerned, in addition to a balanced diet and a peaceful mind, I lack pleasure the performing various types of exercises. And playthg basketball and badminton are my favourite games.
