Through the cold winter wasteland a man trudged, leaning into the harsh wind which spitefully tried to force him back. He was covered from head to toe in layers of thick clothing, layers of protection against the harsh environment. On he fought, searching, searching. He was working so hard. This must be the way.
In the distance he saw what looked like steam rising out of the ground. It rose a few feet and then was quickly whipped away by the biting wind. He altered his course and turned towards the steam, gaining some blessed relief as he turned his chapped face out of the gale.
As he got closer, he thought he could make out voices. Their tone was unfamiliar to him - musical, relaxed and warm - their melody enticed him closer. Finally he got close enough to peer through the mist.
There before him was a remarkable sight. In the midst of the frozen wasteland, cut into the ground was a large pool. Several people were in the pool, they seemed to be floating easily without any effort. As they saw him approach, a woman called out to him.
"Come in here. It is lovely and warm. You can just lie back and relax," said the woman.
"I can't. There are no steps." The man replied.
"Just jump in. It really is lovely in here. Come on. Theoure's plenty of room for another." Another of the floaters joined in the persuasion.
"But what if I don't like it, how will I get out? The sides are too high to reach up to."
"Believe me, you won't want to get out. Come on. It is so good in here."
But he decided not to jump in. And that was a wise decision.
There're many things and people in life like this pool. They promise you life can be easy.
But in fact, they are traps that you can't come back from.
Life is hard. Stay wise. And fight.

Have you ever been around someone who immediately put you at ease? Perhaps you may be one of those people who others feel safe around.
What is the common thread in people who emanate warmth? Some may think it is related to personality or physical appearance. But this does little to explain why bright beacons of light can be found anywhere. Essence has nothing to do with our exterior.
I like to believe the common thread is a universal trait we are all able to tap into. When we see the truth of who we are and wholeheartedly love every part of that truth, we automatically shine. When we embrace our essence and live in congruence with who we are, we radiate peace.
Every day we can choose to wake up and see the gift of getting to be who we are. When we decide to live from this way of "being," it becomes easy to see this same light and gift in everyone — even those who may not yet see it in themselves.
The benefits of self-love are many. What I know to be true without a doubt in my heart, is that we are all capable of giving this gift to ourselves.
These words help me remember why embracing my essence is always the best thing to do. Perhaps this may resonate with where you are.
When you love who you are,
you become a conduit of light.
Just drop into your heart space,
and live life from this view.
For all of this doing
is not who you are.
Listen to your heart’s soft whisper,
this voice will show you the way.
Live life from your essence
is what she will say.
See the light in yourself,
and your world will be bright.
There is no need to worry,
you are exactly as you should be;
你正是自己本来的模样;
remember to love who you are,
and love you will see.

Are you dissatisfied with today’s success? It is the harvest from yesterday’s sowing. Do you dream of a golden morrow? You will reap what you are sowing today. We get out of life just what we put into it.
Nature takes on our moods: she laughs with those who laugh and weeps with those who weep. If we rejoice and are glad, the very birds sing more sweetly, the woods and streams murmur our song. But if we are sad and sorrowful, a sudden gloom falls upon Nature’s face; the sun shines, but not in our hearts; the birds sing, but not to us.
The future will be just what we make it. Our purpose will give it its character. One’s resolution is one’s prophecy. Leave all your discouraging pessimism behind. Do not prophesy evil, but good. Men of hope come to the front.

Touch Me is a soliloquy(独白)composed by Hank Miller, about the Vietnam (越南)Veterans(退伍军人) Memorial in Washington, D.C. also known as “The Wall”.
Touch me. Don’t be afraid. I can’t hurt you. Go ahead and touch my smooth surface. Feel the cold, glass-like smoothness and the crevices(裂缝) and lines that make me what I am. Use both hands if you wish. We are more similar than you dare to believe.
Touch my face. Yes, I have a face like yours. It has weathered(饱经风霜的) the centuries as yours has the years. My face portrays my evolution. Yours, the birth and death of a generation. My face has aged like yours as we have endured together the testimony(证据) of earth elements.
I have eyes like yours. My inscriptions(碑铭) stare out at you as I search for the meaning of why we are here. I look into your eyes and see who you are. Who am I? I was formed millions of years past and now you see the results of my evolution.
I can feel your hands and the sweat from your palms flow into the countless combination of the letters that make me. I know you. I have known you since I was able to breathe in the air as my smoothness began to take shape and my color matured along with natural flaws. You have known me since the days when you came to take me from my mother.
You cannot hear me. I am static(静态的) and unmoving. But, I can hear your murmurs(低语) and your cries of pain and sadness. Your sons and daughters ask why? There are no answers. I am very old. I have seen everything and I am none the wiser for the pain and suffering and I have witnessed since I rose from the bowels of the earth. I have witnessed the conflict, the death, the civilizations, and the societies that have come before you. Yet I remain mystified about this day.
I feel sad yet alive with a purpose. I have come to know those who are now an integral part of the reason for my being here at this place and time. That purpose has become apparent as I stand before you on this day while your brethren (同胞)gather to witness my reflections and the changes of light that mirror your soul.
I am a reflection of you…
I am all of you…
I am your spirit..
I am The Wall.

Alone, we squander life by rejecting its full potential
and wasting its remaining promises.
Alone, we accept that experiences unshared are barely worthwhile,
that sunsets viewed singly are not as spectacular,
that time spent apart is fallow and pointless.
And so we grow old believing we are nothing by ourselves,
steadfastly shunning the opportunities for self-discovery
and personal growth that solitude could bring us.
We’ve even coined a word for those who prefer to be by themselves:
antisocial, as if they were enemies of society.
They are viewed as friendless, suspect in a world that goes around in twos or more
and is wary of solitary travelers.
People who need people are threatened by people who don’t.
The idea of seeking contentment alone is heretical,
for society steadfastly decrees that our completeness lies in others.
Instead, we cling to each other for solace, comfort,and safety,
believing that we are nothing alone—insignificant, unfulfilled, lost—
accepting solitude in the tiniest, most reluctant of slices, if at all,
which is tragic, for it rejects God?s precious gift of life.
Ironically, most of us crave more intimacy and companionship than we can bear.
We begrudge ourselves,our spouses,
and our partners sufficient physical and emotional breathing room,
and then bemoan the suffocation of our relationships.
To point out these facts is not to suggest we should abandon all our close ties.
Medical surveys show that the majority of elderly people who live alone,
yet maintain frequent contact with relatives and friends,
rate their physical and emotional well-being as “excellent.”
Just as an apple a day kept the doctor away when they were young,
an active social calendar appears to serve the same purpose now.

Summer is all about sun, fun and beach parties. It’s time when you have an opportunity to relax andforget about college. But not all of you have this opportunity. Unless you are a daughter or a son ofwealthy parents, you have to look for the ways to make some extra cash during your summer break.Even if you are not a college student anymore, summer is a great season to start looking for yourdream job. When it comes to job search, it’s critical for you to find a job that you will enjoy doing.Without further ado, here are some tried and true tips on how to find the best summer job.
1. Discover your skills and talents
Many job seekers look for a job without knowing what talents they have and what skills they canoffer their employers. If you don’t know what skills you can offer your potential employer yet, try todiscover them. Think about what you can do and what skill can increase your chances of getting abetter paid job. Even if you don’t have a lot of experience, when you are sure you can do somethingpretty well, don’t underestimate yourself.
2. Use your connections
Nowadays most people have landed their jobs thanks to their connections. Regardless of yourconnections, consider them when looking for your summer job. This way, you can find your job fasterand be sure that you’ll get your paycheck on time. If you don’t have any connections, no worries. Igot my job without them, though it was a bit tough.
3. Ditch your bad habits
If you have any bad habits, such as smoking, drinking, procrastinating or social media addiction,consider getting rid of them while you are looking for your summer job. It’s a good motivation tochange your lifestyle and you will have a bigger chance of landing a lucrative job. Today someemployers can check your social media profiles to find out more information about your lifestyle andhabits.
4. Keep it short
When writing your resume, make sure it’s not too long. 1-2 pages will be enough to provideinformation an employer will want to know about you. Don’t lie about your skills. Adding in adegree you never completed or a skill you know you won’t be able to acquire in a week is a surefireway to fail. If you are about to submit an application, make sure it’s clearly legible and written inblack type or ink.
5. Be friendly
Frowning won’t help you land a good job. Positive attitude is the key to success. When you lookfriendly and you are actually friendly, the others notice that. Most employers claim that it’s alwaysbetter to hire a positive beginner than a negative professional. When going to a job interview, forgetall your problems and focus on the positive things to make a good first impression.
6. Don’t submit applications at random
When it comes to any job search, submitting applications at random is one of the worst mistakes youcan commit. Not only does it prevent you from finding a well-paid job, you may end up finding awrong job. Before starting your summer job search, figure out what kind of job you’d like to doeach day. Make a short list of all the possible places you really want to work and only then submitapplications.
Even though summer job may seem like a temporary job, it’s a wonderful opportunity to gain someexperience, develop new skills and earn some extra money. Moreover, this job can affect your futurejobs, which is why it’s important to be a responsible employee. Be honest and curious. If you don’tknow something, let your employer know about it. This way, they can help you learn faster andbecome a more professional worker. Who knows, maybe this temporary job will become yourpermanent one. What are the most popular summer jobs that you want to land? Do you think asummer job can help you build the experience you need to start your career? Share your thoughtswith us please.

And the flight of birds, the gulls and rooks and little brown wavering things which flit out and along the edge of the chalk-pits, is once more refreshment to me, utterly untempered. A merle is singing in a bramble thicket; the dew has not yet dried off the bramble leaves. A feather of a moon floats across the sky; the distance sends forth homely murmurs;the sun warms my cheeks. And all of this is pure joy. No hawk of dread and horror keeps swooping down and bearing off the little birds of happiness. No accusing conscience starts forth and beckons me away from pleasure. Everywhere is supreme and flawless beauty. Whether one looks at this tiny snail shell,marvelously chased and marked, a very elf's horn whose open mouth is coloured rose; or gazes down at the flat land between here and the sea, wandering under the smile of the afternoon sunlight, seeming almost to be alive, hedgeless, with its many watching trees, and silver gulls hovering above the mushroom-coloured "ploughs", and Fields green in manifold hues; whether one muse on this little pink daisy born so out of time, or watches that valley of brown-rose-grey woods,under the drifting shadows of low-hanging chalky clouds - all is perfect, as only Nature can be perfect on a lovely day, when the mind of him who looks on her is at rest.

Learning to play a musical instrument can change your brain, with a US review finding music training can lead to improved speech and foreign language skills.
Although it has been suggested in the past that listening to Mozart or other classical music could make you smarter, there has been little evidence to show that music boosts brain power.
But a data-driven review by Northwestern University has pulled together research that links musical training to learning that spills over into skills including language, speech, memory, attention and even vocal emotion.
Researcher Nina Kraus said the data strongly suggested that the neural connections made during musical training also enhanced the brain for other aspects of human communication.
“ The effect of music training suggests that, akin to physical exercise and its impact on body fitness, music is a resource that tones the brain for auditory fitness and thus requires society to re-examine the role of music in shaping individual development,”the researchers said in their study.
Kraus said learning musical sounds could enhance the brain’s ability to adapt and change and also enable the nervous system to provide a scaffolding of patterns that are important to learning.
The study, published in Nature Reviews Neuroscience, looked at the explosion of research in recent years focused on the effects of music training on the nervous system which could have strong implications for education.
The study found that playing an instrument primes the brain to choose what is relevant in a complex process that may involve reading or remembering a score, timing issues and coordination with other musicians.
“A musician’s brain selectively enhances information-bearing elements in sound,” Kraus said in a statement. “In a beautiful interrelationship between sensory and cognitive processes, the nervous system makes associations between complex sounds and what they mean.”

Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room. One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs. His bed was next to the room‘s only window. The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back. The men talked for hours on end.
They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, where they had been on vacation. And every afternoon when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window. The man in the other bed began to live for those one-hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and color of the world outside.
The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake. Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Young lovers walked arm in arm amidst flowers of every color of the rainbow. Grand old trees graced the landscape, and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance. As the man by the window described all this in exquisite detail, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine the picturesque scene.
One warm afternoon the man by the window described a parade passing by. Although the other man couldn‘t hear the band - he could see it in his mind‘s eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive words.
Days and weeks passed. One morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths only to find the lifeless body of the man by the window, who had died peacefully in his sleep. She was saddened and called the hospital attendants to take the body away.
As soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch, and after making sure he was comfortable, she left him alone. Slowly and painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look at the world outside. Finally, he would have the joy of seeing it for himself. He strained to slowly turn to look out the window beside the bed. It faced a blank wall.
The man asked the nurse what could have compelled his deceased roommate who had described such wonderful things outside this window. The nurse responded that the man was blind and could not even see the wall. She said, "Perhaps he just wanted to encourage you."

当你和你的亲近的少吵嘴时候,试着就事论事,不要扯出那些陈芝麻、烂谷子的事;
不要摆脱不了昨天;
多注意言下之意;
和别人分享你的知识,那才是永恒之道;
善待我们的地球,不要愚弄自然母亲;
做自己该做的事;
不要相信接吻时从不闭眼的伴侣;
如果你赚了很多钱,在活着的时候多行善事,这是你能得到的最好回报;
记住有时候,不是最好的收获也是一种好运;
深刻理解所有的规则,合理地更新他们;
记住,最好的爱存在于对别人的爱胜于对别人的索求这上;
回头看看你发誓取得的目标,然后评价你到底有多成功;

At the beginning of the World Series of 1947, I experienced a completely new emotion, when the National Anthem was played.This time, I thought, it is being played for me, as much as for anyone else. This is organized major league baseball, and I am standing here with all the others; and everything that takes place includes me.
About a year later, I went to Atlanta, Georgia, to play in an exhibition game. On the field, for the first time in Atlanta, there were Negroes and whites. Other Negroes, besides me. And I thought: What I have always believed has come to be.
And what is it that I have always believed? First, that imperfections are human. But that wherever human beings were given room to breathe and time to think, those imperfections would disappear, no matter how slowly. I do not believe that we have found or even approached perfection. That is not necessarily in the scheme of human events. Handicaps, stumbling blocks, prejudices — all of these are imperfect. Yet, they have to be reckoned with because they are in the scheme of human events.
Whatever obstacles I found made me fight all the harder. But it would have been impossible for me to fight at all, except that I was sustained by the personal and deep-rooted belief that my fight had a chance. It had a chance because it took place in a free society. Not once was I forced to face and fight an immovable object. Not once was the situation so cast-iron rigid that I had no chance at all. Free minds and human hearts were at work all around me; and so there was the probability of improvement. I look at my children now, and know that I must still prepare them to meet obstacles and prejudices.
But I can tell them, too, that they will never face some of these prejudices because other people have gone before them. And to myself I can say that, because progress is unalterable, many of today's dogmas will have vanished by the time they grow into adults. I can say to my children: There is a chance for you. No guarantee, but a chance.And this chance has come to be, because there is nothing static with free people. There is no Middle Ages logic so strong that it can stop the human tide from flowing forward. I do not believe that every person, in every walk of life, can succeed in spite of any handicap. That would be perfection. But I do believe — and with every fiber in me — that what I was able to attain came to be because we put behind us (no matter how slowly) the dogmas of the past: to discover the truth of today; and perhaps find the greatness of tomorrow.
I believe in the human race. I believe in the warm heart. I believe in man's integrity. I believe in the goodness of a free society. And I believe that the society can remain good only as long as we are willing to fight for it — and to fight against whatever imperfections may exist.My fight was against the barriers that kept Negroes out of baseball. This was the area where I found imperfection, and where I was best able to fight. And I fought because I knew it was not doomed to be a losing fight. It couldn't be a losing fight-not when it took place in a free society. And in the largest sense, I believe that what I did was done for me — that it was my faith in God that sustained me in my fight. And that what was done for me must and will be done for others.

As the hibernating bear inside of us wakes with the warm temperatures, many hit the running trails, walking paths and softball fields. However, a common problem that newly renewed exercise enthusiasts have is overtraining. This overuse, according to physical therapist Melinda Tarquinio, can lead to injury.
Sometimes, it's the 20-to-40-year-old crowd getting sore shoulders from too much softball and not enough stretching, Tarquinio said. But injuries also happen outside the realm of physical training. “Some people just doing everyday activities such as cutting their grass,” she said. Tarquinio said many patients write off their injuries as simple soreness and keep playing or exercising, causing more damage.
Ignored injuries can become chronic injuries, and “the inflammatory process keeps occurring over and over. If it's something where you strained a tendon, then it becomes tendonitis. It's going to weaken that muscle and take longer to heal,” Tarquinio said.
Daniel Higgins, a physical therapist, said injuries can cause a domino effect of ailments when not treated. “When the body is not ready for all that kind of stress, it leads up to some kind of injury,” he said. “It's not one big injury. It's a tiny little injury that happens a hundred times and, then, the tissue becomes irritated or inflamed. … Now, you are at risk for injury in other structures because everything is not working together like it should.”
One way to prevent these injuries is to stay active year-round. Any physical activity should be undertaken gradually and include cardiovascular, flexibility and strength exercises, Tarquinio said.
Another key to preventing injuries is through stretching and increasing flexibility. Tarquinio recommends a five-to-ten-minute warm-up, such as walking or biking, followed by stretching the major muscle groups, which include the leg muscles, large back muscles, chest and shoulders. Hold each stretch at least 30 seconds, performing each stretch two or three times. After working out, stretch again.
However, if you feel that you might have a sports-related injury, seek help from a physician. “If it's something that does not go away within five to seven days, I would seek a doctor's opinion,” Tarquinio said. If you do not feel that your injury is serious enough to warrant a trip to the doctor, Tarquinio recommends treating the injury – within the first 72 hours – using the “RICE” method: rest, ice, compression and elevation.

The US trade deficit soared in August as surging Chinese imports worsened global economic imbalances and stoked rising American anger with China’s exchange rate policy.
The data, published on Thursday, come ahead of Friday’s release deadline for the US Treasury’s twice-yearly report on exchange rates, in which it has to decide whether or not formally to name China as a currency manipulator. Despite congressional pressure, the Treasury has so far refrained from using the label, arguing that it makes no practical difference to relations with Beijing.
The figures released by the commerce department showed the deficit in goods and services widening by 8.7 per cent to $46.3bn. That figure was the second highest gap of the year, exceeding economists’ expectations. The rise was driven by US businesses stocking up on consumer goods and cars at the end of summer.
Exports ticked up by 0.22 per cent to $153.8bn, the highest level in two years, but were outstripped by imports, which jumped by 2.1 per cent to $200.2bn.
“The structural US trade deficit continues to persist on the lack of Chinese demand for US exports,”said Michael Woolfolk, analyst, BNY Mellon Global Markets.
In August, imports from China rose by 6.1 per cent to a record $35.3bn. That left a US trade shortfallwith its most politically sensitive trading partner at a record $28bn at a time when the US is intensifying its scrutiny of China for creating trade imbalances by undervaluing the renminbi.
Economists expect imports to the US to cool as the end of the year nears because consumer demand remains tepid. Ian Shepherdson, chief US economist at High Frequency Economics, notes that much of the expansion of the deficit in August was due to rising oil prices and a drop in aircraft orders.
The US deficit with China accounts for about half of its shortfall with the rest of the world. US deficits with the European Union, Canada and Japan also widened in August.
