When love beckons you, follow him, though his ways are hard and stccp. And when his wings enfold you, yield to him, though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound you. And when he speaks to you, believe in him, though his voice may shatter your dreams as the north wind lays waste the garden.
For even as love crowns you so shall he crucify you. Even as he is for your growth so is he for your pruning. Even as he ascends to your height and caresses your most tender branches that quiver in the sun,so shall he descend to your roots and shake them in their clinging to the earth.
All these things shall love do unto you that you may know the secrets of your heart and in that knowledge become a fragment of life's heart.But if,in your fear,you would seek only love's peace and love's pleasure,then it is better for you that you cover your nakeness and pass out of love's threshing-floor. into the season less world where you shall laugh, but not all of your laughter, and weep. but not all of your tears. Love gives naught but itself and takes naught but from pssesse, not nor would it be possessed. for love is sufficient into love.
Love has no other desire but to fulfill itself. But if you love and have desires, don't let these be your desires:
To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night
To know the pain of too much tenderness.
To be wounded by your own understanding of love
And to bleed willingly andjoyfully.
To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving;
To rest at the noon hour and meditate love's ecstasy;
To return home at eventide with gratitude; And then to sleep with a prayer for the beloved in your heart.
清晨,带着一颗生翼的心醒来,感谢又一个充满爱的日子;
午休,沉思爱的心醉神怡;

Once upon a time, there was an island where all the feelings lived: Happiness, Sadness, Knowledge, and all of the others, including Love. One day it was announced to the feelings that the island would sink, so all constructed boats and left. Except for Love.
Love was the only one who stayed. Love wanted to hold out until the last possible moment.
When the island had almost sunk, Love decided to ask for help.
Richness was passing by Love in a grand boat. Love said,"Richness, can you take me with you?"
Richness answered, "No, I can't. There is a lot of gold and silver in my boat. There is no place here for you."
Love decided to ask Vanity who was also passing by in a beautiful vessel. "Vanity, please help me!"
"I can't help you, Love. You are all wet and might damage my boat," Vanity answered.
Sadness was close by so Love asked, "Sadness, let me go with you."
"Oh . . . Love, I am so sad that I need to be by myself!"
Happiness passed by Love, too, but she was so happy that she did not even hear when Love called her.
Suddenly, there was a voice, "Come, Love, I will take you." It was an elder. So blessed and overjoyed, Love even forgot to ask the elder where they were going. When they arrived at dry land, the elder went her own way. Realizing how much was owed the elder, Love asked Knowledge, another elder, "Who Helped me?"
"It was Time," Knowledge answered.
"Time?" asked Love. "But why did Time help me?"
Knowledge smiled with deep wisdom and answered, "Because only Time is capable of understanding how valuable Love is."

I wish I did too,I thought to myself,and I cried.
A woman came out of her house and saw three old men with long hite beards sitting in her front yard.She did not recognize them.She said"I don't think I know you,but you must be hungry.Please come in and have something to eat."
"Is the man of the house home?"they asked.
"No,"she said."He's out."
"Then we cannot come in",they replied,
In the evening when her husband came home,she told him what had happened."Go tell them I am home and invite in!"The woman went out and invited the men in.
"We do not go into a house together ,"they replied.
"Why is that?"she wanted to know.
One of the old men explained:"His name is Wealth,"he said pointing to one of his friends, and said pointing to another one,"He is Success,and I am Love."Then he added,"Now go in and discuss with your husband which one of us you want in your home."
The woman went in and told her husband what was said.Her huaband was overjoyed."How nice!",he said."Since that is the case,let us invite Wealth.Let him come and fill our home with wealth!"
His wife disagreed,"My dear,why don't we invite Success?"Their daughter-in-law was listening from the other corner of the house.She jumped in with her own suggestion:"Would it not be better to invite Love?Our home will then be filled with love!"
"Let us heed our daughter-in-law's advice,"said the husband to his wife."Go out and invite Love to be our guest."
The woman went out and asked the three old men,"Which one of you is Love?Please come in and be our guest."
Love got up and started walking toward the house.The other two also got up and followed him.Surprised,the lady asked Wealth and Success:"I only invited Love,why are you coming in?"
The old men replied together:"If you had invited Wealth or Success,the other two of us would have stayed,but since you invited Love,wherever he goes,we go with him.Wherever there is Love,there is also Weath and Success!"

Let me preface’my story by repeating some ludicrous advice my tnom gave me when I was a little girl: "someday you will see a man across the room and you will know he is the one.
Well, I'd made it to my mid-30's without getting remotely close to finding "the one," let alone in a casual glance across the room. Instead, I spend too many years in relationships with the wrong men. Then, just bcforc the millennium, a new job and a desire to be nearer to my sister prompted a move from Chicago to Houston. With all this "clean start" symbolism, I resolved never again to date any man who was not marriage material. This meant I went on very few first dates and even fewer second ones.
One night I joined a group of friends -all of them coupled, most of them ill一matched--at a popular Itouston restaurant. They were giving me grief about not dating. "You should just do it for the heck of it." thev said.
"Why should I waste my time and their money if 1 know I am not interested" I responded. "It meet a guy who's my type. I will go."
They persisW d. "Fine, what's your type'"
I had been watching a guy across the room (score for mom) who remind me of my dad: big, well dressed and telling stories with hands flailing the air, much to the delight of his dinner companions, all men in suits and presumably his business associates, 1 pointed.、‘him,’1 told my friends. "I'd }o out mith him."
Well, go introduce yourself," they urged
I would not do such a thing. 1 informed them.
"But what if you never sec him again" they asked.
Then I will meet someone else,“I said. with impeccable logic,”I'm simply slowing you my type."
My friend would have none of it. Taskma,ter Emily suddenly strode across the room and tapped Mr. Right on the shoulder. "Are you gay''" she suddenly strode across the room and asked.
"Uh, no," he said, a bit warily
"Are you married?"family continued.
"No." he said, amused now.
"Good," she said. "That blonde over there", pointing to me while my face turned red as a beet. wants to meet you”
“Cool”he replied and walked straight to our table. pulled up spare chair and stuck out his hand. "I-li. I'm Rick."
A year after I spotted him across the room,Rick proposed .Six month later,we were married. At our rehearsal dinner, Rick regaled the guest with the story of how we met-his version,which has me knocking over chairs. crawling tables and body-slamming waiters to intruduce myself.
We will soon celebrate our third wedding anniversary and are planning to have children-we already have a chocolate Labrador. My mom claims the pooch will trigger my maternal instincts and help me get pregnant.
But then what does she know?

The choice between having a career or making time for love is an extremely personal and individual decision. There are many factors which can affect your choice, and there are many people who have discovered how to achieve a healthy work life balance that allows them to have both.
Careers and love fulfill us in different but important ways. Having a solid career gives us a sense of accomplishment and self worth, aside from the practicalities of paying the bills. Many people develop their entire identity based upon what they do, elevating their career to a level of great importance in their lives.
Then there are those who measure their success in terms of having a pleasant and rewarding home life. They develop their identities based upon the accomplishments of their children, and derive their self worth through the love and support of a spouse.
So what happens if you cannot or do not wish to make room in your life for both? While the happiest and healthiest people have managed to develop a work life balance that allows for both, it may not be for everyone. Consider these factors when pondering which is more important for you.
1. Your career may be more important when you are young Many people these days focus on careers first and family later. The reasoning is that, while you are young and unencumbered, you have the time and energy to fully devote yourself to a career. If you have lofty career ambitions while you are young, it may indeed be the time to start making progress towards those goals.
Once you get married and begin to build a family, much of your time and energy -by necessity -becomes devoted to your family. This is as it should be. You should not start a family unless you are willing to devote time and attention to your loved ones.
Many people who accomplish great success in their careers when they are young, and establish themselves in a secure position, are then more willing and comfortable later on to devote themselves to family. By the time they do settle down, they are more prepared to handle the responsibility.
2. Falling in love can be better when you are older
More and more people these days are choosing to wait when it comes to making decisions about family. It is not unusual for people to delay marriage until their late 30's or even their early 40's. Delaying family decisions allows you to be better prepared for those obligations, and creates a better Ukelibood5 that you are in touch with your most important goals and values. You have had the opportunity to completely grow up, greatly reducing the chances of feeling like you are "missing out." You have had the chance to purge the foolishness of youth from your system and are now confident with the wisdom of maturity.
3. Choosing Both
If you can find a work life balance that allows you to experience the joys of love and maintain a successful career, you will have a truly happy and rewarding life. A loving family at Home can help you celebrate all of your successes, and bolster your confidence through your failures. There are many people out there reaping the tremendous rewards that come with including love and work in their lives, and finding the balance that allows for both.
A life that only has room for a career, or that includes a consuming love that stifles your personal development, is likely not a lifestyle that is healthy or fulfilling Our personal needs and feelings of self worth need to be met, which is normally gained from having a good career. Our hearts and souls need to be nourished , and we need companionship to support us through life, which normally are derived from loving relationships.
The truly healthy and well balanced person will recognize the benefits of having both. He or she will take steps to achieve the work life balance necessary to assure the continuation of career growth while nurturing and maintaining the health of personal relationships. It is only when we can maintain this delicate balance that we are living life to its greatest potential.

THE stage is more beholding to love, than the life ofman. For as to the stage, love is ever matter ofcomedies, and now and then of tragedies; but in lifeit doth much mischief; sometimes like a siren,sometimes like a fury. You may observe, thatamongst all the great and worthy persons (whereofthe memory remaineth, either ancient or recent)there is not one, that hath been transported to themad degree of love: which shows that great spirits,and great business, do keep out this weak passion.You must except, nevertheless, Marcus Antonius,the half partner of the empire of Rome, and Appius Claudius, the decemvir and lawgiver;whereof the former was indeed a voluptuous man, and inordinate; but the latter was anaustere and wise man: and therefore it seems (though rarely) that love can find entrance, notonly into an open heart, but also into a heart well fortified, if watch be not well kept. It is a poorsaying of Epicurus, Satis magnum alter alteri theatrum sumus; as if man, made for thecontemplation of heaven, and all noble objects, should do nothing but kneel be- fore a littleidol, and make himself a subject, though not of the mouth (as beasts are), yet of the eye;which was given him for higher purposes.
It is a strange thing, to note the excess of this passion, and how it braves the nature, andvalue of things, by this; that the speaking in a perpetual hyperbole, is comely in nothing butin love. Neither is it merely in the phrase; for whereas it hath been well said, that the arch-flatterer, with whom all the petty flatterers have intelligence, is a man's self; certainly thelover is more. For there was never proud man thought so absurdly well of him self, as the loverdoth of the person loved; and therefore it was well said, That it is impossible to love, and to bewise. Neither doth this weakness appear to others only, and not to the party loved; but to theloved most of all, except the love be reciproque. For it is a true rule, that love is ever rewarded,either with the reciproque, or with an inward and secret contempt.
By how much the more, men ought to beware of this passion, which loseth not only otherthings, but itself! As for the other losses, the poet's relation doth well figure them: that hethat preferred Helena, quitted the gifts of Juno and Pallas.
For whosoever esteemeth too much of amorous affection, quitteth both riches and wisdom.This passion hath his floods, in very times of weakness; which are great prosperity, andgreat adversity; though this latter hath been less observed: both which times kindle love, andmake it more fervent, and therefore show it to be the child of folly. They do best, who if theycannot but admit love, yet make it keep quarters; and sever it wholly from their serious affairs,and actions, of life; for if it check once with business, it troubleth men's fortunes, and makethmen, that they can noways be true to their own ends. I know not how, but martial men aregiven to love: I think, it is but as they are given to wine; for perils commonly ask to be paid inpleasures. There is in man's nature, a secret inclination and motion, towards love of others,which if it be not spent upon some one or a few, doth naturally spread itself towards many,and maketh men become humane and charitable; as it is seen sometime in friars.
Nuptial love maketh mankind; friendly love perfecteth it; but wanton love corrupteth, andembaseth it.

You know my heart; you know that all there is desire, thought, boding and longing; you live among spirits and they give you divine wisdom. You must nourish me; you give all that in advance, which I do not understand to ask for.
My mind has a small embrace, my love a large one; you must bring them to a balance. Love cannot be quiet till the mind matches its growth; you are matched to my love; you are friendly, kind, and indulgent; let me know when my heart is off the balance. I understand your silent signs.
A look from your eyes into mine, a kiss from you upon my lips, instructs me in all, what might seem delighted to learn, - to one who, like me, had experience from those. I am far from you; mine are become strange to me.
I must ever return in thought to that hour when you hold me in the soft fold of your arm. Then I begin to weep, but the tears dry again unawares. Yes, he reaches with his love (thus I think) over to me in this concealed stillness; and should not I, with my eternal undisturbed loving, reach to him in the distance?
Ah, conceive what my heart has to say to you; it overflows with soft sighs all whisper to you. Be my only happiness on earth your friendly will to me. O, dear friend, give me but a sign that you are conscious of me.

I have your letter, my adorable love. It has filled my heart with joy since I left you I have been sad all the time. My only happiness is near you. I go over endlessly in my thought of your kisses, your tears, your delicious jealousy. The charm of my wonderful Josephine kindles a living, blazing fire in-my heart and senses.
When shall I be able to pass every minute near you, with nothing to do but to love you and nothing to think of but the pleasure of telling you of it and giving you proof of it?
I loved you some time ago; since then I feel that I love you a thousand times better. Ever since I have known you I adore you more every day. That proves how wrong is that saying of La Bruyere "Love comes all of a sudden. "
Ah, let me see some of your faults; be less beautiful, less graceful, less tender, less good. But never be jealous and never shed tears. Your tears send me out of my mind they set my very blood on fire.
Believe me that it is utterly impossible for me to have a single thought that is not yours, a single fancy that is not submissive to your will. Rest well. Restore your health. Come back to me and then at any rate before we die we ought to be able to say: "We were happy for so very many days!" Millions of kisses even to your dog.

All thoughts, all passions, all delights,
Whatever stirs thi mortal frame,
All are but ministers of Love,
And feed his sacred flame.
Oft in my waking dreams do I
Live o'er again that happy hour,
When midway on the mount I lay,
Beside the ruin'd tower.
一遍遍重温那幸福时刻;
The moonshine,stealing o'er the scene,
Had blended with the lights of eve;
And she was there, my hope, my joy,
My own dear Genevieve!
同茫茫暮色融汇在一处;
She lean'd against the armed man,
The statue of the armed Knight;
SHe stood and listen'd to my lay,
Amid the lingering light.
那是全副武装的骑士像;
Few sorrows hath she of her own,
My hope!my joy! my Genevieve!
She loves me best whene'er I sing
The songs that make her grieve.
I play'd a soft and doleful air;
I sing an old and moving story--
An old rude song, that suited well
That ruin wild and hoary.
我常起古老动人的古似乎;
She listen'd with a flitting blush,
With downcast eyes and modest grace;
For well she knew I could not choose
But gaze upon her face.
脸一红的神情谦恭优雅;
I told her of the Knight that wore
Upon his shield a burning brand;
And that for ten long years he woo'd
The Lady of the Land.
他盾上的图案是把火剑;
I told her how he pined and ah!
The deep, the low, the pleading tone
With which I sang another's love,
Interpreted my own.
我告诉她,骑士如何憔悴;
She listen'd with a flitting blush,
With downcast eyes, and modest grace;
And she forgave me, that I gazed
Too fondly on her face!
脸一红的神情谦恭优雅;
But when I told the cruel scorn
That crazed that bold and lovely Knight,
And that he cross'd the mountain-woods,
Nor rested day nor night;
把勇敢可爱的骑士气疯;
只一心要穿越山林;
That sometimes from the savage den,
And sometimes from the darksome shade,
And sometimes staring up at once
In green and sunny glad--
There came and look'd him in the face
An angel beautiful and bright;
And that he knew it was a Fiend,
This miserable Knight!
直盯着骑士的脸庞凝视;
And that, unknowing what he did,
He leap'd amid a murderous band,
And saved from outrage worse than death
The Lady of the Land;--
And how she wept and clasp'd his knees;
And how she tended him in vain--
And ever strove to expiate
The scorn that crazed his brain;--
徒然地把他看护和照顾;
And that she nursed him in a cave;
And how his madness went away,
When on the yellow forest leaves
A dying man he lay;--
His dying words--but when I reach'd
That tenderest strain of all the ditty,
My faltering voice and pausing harp
Disturb'd her soul with pity!
All inpulses of soul and sense
Had thrill'd my guileless Genevieve;
The music and the doleful tale,
The rich and balmy eve;
绚丽而芬芳的夜幕;
And hopes, and fears that kindle hope,
An undistinguishable throng,
And gentle wishes long subdued,
Subdued and cherish'd long!
She wept with pity and delight,
She blush'd with love and virgin shame;
And like the murmur of a dream,
I heard her breathe my name.
为爱和处女的羞怯脸红;
Her bosom heaved--she stepp'd aside,
As conscious of my look she stept--
Then suddenly, with timorous eye
She fled to me and wept.
就好似感觉到我的眼神;
She half enclosed me with her arms,
She press'd me with a meek embrace;
And bending back her head, look'd up,
And gazed upon my face.
羞答答地把我抱在胸前;
'Twas partly love, and partly fear,
And partly 'twas a bashful art,
That I mightrather feel, than see,
The swelling of her heart.
I calm'd her fears, and she was calm,
And told her love with virgin pride;
And so I won my Genevieve,
My bright and beauteous Bride.
骄傲地说出她处女的爱;

You are my one true love. The days we share are my blessings. The memories we make are my treasures. The togetherness we have is my dream come true. And the understanding we share is something I've never had with anyone but you. If anyone ever asked me what part of my life you are I would just have to look at them and smile and say, "The best part." The happiness you give to me is something I'll never be able to get enough of. I love having you in my world. And I love having you to love.

As a teenager,I felt I was always letting people down. I was rebellious1 out-side,but I wantedto be liked inside.
Once I left home to hitch-hike2 to California with my friend Penelope. The trip wasn't easy,andthere were many times I didn't feel safe. One situation in particular kept me grateful to stillbe alive. When I returned home,I was different,not so outwardly sure of myself.
I was happy to be home. But then I noticed that Penelope,who was staying with us,waswearing my clothes. And my family seemed to like her better than me. I wondered if I would bemissed if I weren't there. I told my mom,and she explained that though Penelope was a lovelygirl,no one could replace me. I pointed out,"She is more patient and is neater than I haveever been." My mom said these were wonderful qualities,but I was the only person who couldfill my role. She made me realize that even with my faults-and there were many-I was a lovedmember of the family who couldn't be replaced.
I became a searcher,wanting to find out who I was and what made me unique. My view ofmyself was changing. I wanted a solid base to start from. I started to resist3 pressure to actin ways that I didn't like any more,and I was delighted by who I really was. I came to feelmuch more sure that no one can ever take my place.
Each of us holds a unique place in the world. You are special,no matter what others say orwhat you may think. So forget about being replaced. You can't be.
