Let's start with the most important phrase, which also happens to be the simplest:
This isn’t the same as “Have I taken good care of you today?” or “Have all of your questions been answered?” The goal of every support call needs to be greater than just solving the immediate problem. The real measure of success will be whether you’ve managed to preserve the investment you’ve already made in a customer. If the answer to either side of the question is “No”, you’ve still got work to do.

Sundays aren’t just for rest and recuperation. When used wisely, they’re actually the perfect way to start your week with a bang.
Mondays often feel like a catch-up day from the weekend. There’s usually a full inbox and things that need your immediate attention as soon as you walk into the office. To avoid this productivity-killing situation, I schedule some time for work every Sunday to get my week started with a clean slate.
It’s up to you how long you choose to work on Sunday. But If you’re looking to get more done on Monday and use that momentum to power your week, here are a few thing to accomplish:
Face it, sometimes less important tasks tend to fall to the wayside in the face of a busy week. If there’s anything on your back burner from the week before, use your Sunday work session to finish it. But remember, Sundays shouldn’t be your go-to “catch all” for tasks you’ve previously avoided.

The English Character
To other Europeans, the best known quality of the British,
and in particular of the English, is “reserved”.
A reserved person is one who does not talk very much to strangers,
does not show much emotion, and seldom gets excited.
It is difficult to get to know a reserved person:
he never tells you anything about himself,
and you may work with him for years without ever knowing where he lives,
how many children he has, and what his interests are.
English people tend to be like that.
Closely related to English reserve is English modesty.
Within their hearts, the English are perhaps no less conceited than anybody else,
but in their relations with others they value at least a show of modesty.
Self-praise is felt to be impolite.
If a person is, let us say,
very good at tennis and someone asks him if he is a good player,
he will seldom reply “Yes,”
because people will think him conceited.
He will probably give an answer like,
“I’m not bad,” or “I think I’m very good,” or “Well, I’m very keen on tennis.”
Even if he had managed to reach the finals in last year’s local championships,
he would say it in such a way as to suggest that it was only due to a piece of good luck.
Since reserve and modesty are part of his own nature,
the typical English tends to expect them in others.
He secretly looks down on more excitable nations,
and likes to think of himself as more reliable than they are.
He doesn’t trust big promises and open shows of feelings,
especially if they are expressed in flowery language.
He doesn’t trust self-praise of any kind.
This applies not only to what other people may tell him about themselves orally,
but to the letters they may write to him.
To those who are fond of flowery expressions,
the Englishman may appear uncomfortably cold.

比如large和big都指“大”,但large通常用来修饰诸如number, amount及quantity(a large nunlber of students,a large almount of money,a large quantity of wine, etc)。

Life as a teenager was complicated and chaotic for me. I had too many feelings, frustrations, and too much anxiety about everything. I had placed no value on personal finance, and I had no desire to really talk with anyone. Needless to say, there are a lot of things I wish I knew when I was still in my teens. Instead of bottling them all up and just wishing for the best to come, I’ve decided to share them with you. I’ve decided that there will be no more regrets–an ample amount of wisdom and a greater appreciation for today will be my greatest drivers in the production of this list.
Those butterflies in your stomach? That’s not love at all.
The top item on my “things I wish I knew when I was a teenager” list is about attraction. I wish I had known that feeling flushed, embarrassed and flustered mean you are nervous, not that you’re in love. It’s not that I was too young to fall in love: it’s that I was too self-absorbed and caught up in my own world that caring for someone else didn’t really make sense back then.
Don’t go into a spending frenzy–you didn’t earn that money!
Looking back, I shudder and cringe when I remember my past spending habits. Whenever I received my allowance back then, I never stopped and thought about saving some of it. I wish I had known–and really valued–the way money was earned.
Failure doesn’t mean you’re weak.
I was easily discouraged. I thought that failing meant losing and that being a failure meant you were going to be poor for the rest of your life. Ha! How far was I from the truth? Failure is helpful in shaping your character. It helps you develop and come out stronger than before. Failure is priceless. And frankly, everyone deserves to fail once in a while.
You’re never too young to invest.
I know I said no regrets–but come on. Whenever I think about the thousands I’ve lost, the thousands I could have invested, I can’t resist slapping myself for being too ignorant. If you’re still in your teens, please. Do yourself a favor and start investing!
You can be who you want to be. I promise you.
Sure, this sounds false, with all the bullies putting you down, all the mean teachers attacking your character and all the failures stressing you out, but it’s true. Don’t let anyone bring your dreams down. You don’t need gold (gold-plated) medals, a bunch of certificates or an A+ every single time! People–or people who do matter–won’t really care about that.
Gossiping, while fun, can be an energy-drainer.
You need your energy so that you can do a lot of things. If you spend all your time and your energy gossiping, you’ll have imaginary power but little control over your life. Sure, there’s a bit of a fun in this activity, but all the negativity and emotional stress you’ll get aren’t going to be worth it.
Emergencies happen. Please prepare for it in advance.
Just imagine: if I had saved up at least 5% of my monthly allowance, I could have been better off financially by the time I graduated college. By that time, I would have an emergency fund already! I really wish I had known to save up early in my teens. Granted, I started when I was 19, but imagine if I had started at 13!
Read about the Law of Attraction.
No, I’m not talking about physical attraction here. What I’m saying is that it would have been better if I had known that my thoughts can be manifested through my actions! I would have spent more time thinking positively.
It’s okay to not conform sometimes.
“Study hard, get good grades and find a great company to work for.” –No, you can actually consider entrepreneurship as well. “Don’t strive to be rich or you’ll be evil.”–It just depends on the person. Money just magnifies your inherent character. “Help will always come.”–Not necessarily. No one owes you anything, really, so it’s better for you to depend on yourself instead of other people.
Start something.
Your teen years are the best time for you to create projects: put up a blog, write a novel, donate to charity, produce a song, read non-fiction books and basically start owning your life. You’re still young. You’ll still make mistakes. But the most important thing is that you’re making an effort, that you’re not afraid to try. Don’t wait until you’re old enough. This time will never happen! Now, let me ask you: are the things on this list also on your list?

There are so many lessons I wish I had learned while I was young enough to appreciate and apply them. The thing with wisdom, and often with life lessons in general, is that they’re learned in retrospect, long after we needed them. The good news is that other people can benefit from our experiences and the lessons we’ve learned.
1. Money will NEVER solve your real problems
Money is a tool; a commodity that buys you necessities and some nice “wants,” but it is not the panacea to your problems. There are a great many people who are living on very little, yet have wonderfully full and happy lives… and there are sadly a great many people are living on quite a lot, yet have terribly miserable lives.
Money can buy a nice home, a great car, fabulous shoes, even a bit of security and some creature comforts, but it cannot fix a broken relationship, or cure loneliness, and the “happiness” it brings is only fleeting and not the kind that really and truly matters. Happiness is not for sale. If you’re expecting the “stuff” you can buy to “make it better,” you will never be happy.
2. Pace yourself
Often when we’re young, just beginning our adult journey we feel as though we have to do everything at once. We need to decide everything, plan out our lives, experience everything, get to the top, find true love, figure out our life’s purpose, and do it all at the same time.
Slow down—don’t rush into things. Let your life unfold. Wait a bit to see where it takes you, and take time to weigh your options. Enjoy every bite of food, take time to look around you, let the other person finish their side of the conversation. Allow yourself time to think, to mull a bit. Taking action is critical. Working towards your goals and making plans for the future is commendable and often very useful, but rushing full-speed ahead towards anything is a one-way ticket to burnout and a good way to miss your life as it passes you by.
3. You can’t please everyone
“I don’t know the secret to success, but the secret to failure is trying to please everyone” – Bill Cosby
You don’t need everyone to agree with you or even like you. It’s human nature to want to belong, to be liked, respected and valued, but not at the expense of your integrity and happiness. Other people cannot give you the validation you seek. That has to come from inside. Speak up, stick to your guns, assert yourself when you need to, demand respect, stay true to your values.
4. Your health is your most valuable asset
Health is an invaluable treasure—always appreciate, nurture, and protect it. Good health is often wasted on the young before they have a chance to appreciate it for what it’s worth. We tend to take our good health for granted, because it’s just there. We don’t have to worry about it, so we don’t really pay attention to it… until we have to. Heart disease, bone density, stroke, many cancers—the list of many largely preventable diseases is long, so take care of your health now, or you’ll regret it later on.
5. You don’t always get what you want
“Life is what happens while you’re busy making other plans.” – John Lennon
No matter how carefully you plan and how hard you work, sometimes things just don’t work out the way you want them to… and that’s ok. We have all of these expectations; predetermined visions of what our “ideal” life will look like, but all too often, that’s not the reality of the life we end up with. Sometimes our dreams fail and sometimes we just change our minds mid-course. Sometimes we have to flop to find the right course and sometimes we just have to try a few things before we find the right direction.
6. It’s not all about you
You are not the epicenter of the universe. It’s very difficult to view the world from a perspective outside of your own, since we are always so focused on what’s happening in our own lives. What do I have to do today? What will this mean for me, for my career, for my life? What do I want? It’s normal to be intensely aware of everything that’s going on in your own life, but you need to pay as much attention to what’s happening around you, and how things affect other people in the world as you do to your own life. It helps to keep things in perspective.
7. There’s no shame in not knowing
No one has it all figured out. Nobody has all the answers. There’s no shame in saying “I don’t know.” Pretending to be perfect doesn’t make you perfect. It just makes you neurotic to keep up the pretense of manufactured perfection. We have this idea that there is some kind of stigma or shame in admitting our limitations or uncertainly, but we can’t possibly know everything. We all make mistakes and mess up occasionally. We learn as we go, that’s life. Besides—nobody likes a know-it-all. A little vulnerability makes you human and oh so much more relatable.
8. Love is more than a feeling; it’s a choice
That burst of initial exhilaration, pulse quickening love and passion does not last long. But that doesn’t mean long-lasting love is not possible. Love is not just a feeling; it’s a choice that you make every day. We have to choose to let annoyances pass, to forgive, to be kind, to respect, to support, to be faithful. Relationships take work. Sometimes it’s easy and sometimes it’s incredibly hard, but it is up to us to choose how we want to act, think and speak in a relationship.
9. Perspective is a beautiful thing
Typically, when we’re worried or upset, it’s because we’ve lost perspective. Everything that is happening in our lives seems so big, so important, so do or die, but in the grand picture, this single hiccup often means next to nothing. The fight we’re having, the job we didn’t get, the real or imagined slight, the unexpected need to shift course, the thing we wanted, but didn’t get. Most of it won’t matter 20, 30, 40 years from now. It’s hard to see long term when all you know is short term, but unless it’s life-threatening, let it go, and move on.
10. Don’t take anything for granted
We often don’t appreciate what we have until it’s gone: that includes your health, your family and friends, your job, the money you have or think you will have tomorrow. When you’re young, it seems that your parents will always be there, but they won’t. You think you have plenty of time to get back in touch with your old friends or spend time with new ones, but you don’t. You have the money to spend, or you think you’ll have it next month, but you might not. Nothing in your life is not guaranteed to be there tomorrow, including those you love.
This is a hard life lesson to learn, but it may be the most important of all: Life can change in an instant. Make sure you appreciate what you have, while you still have it.

I know an employer who found out after an employee left that he was running his small business from his work computer. They were not amused and he won't be getting a good reference from them, if he needs one in the future (and you never know when you might need a reference).
Even if you're not doing anything wrong, it's important to make sure that your personal information isn't left behind when you leave your job. That way, you won't have to worry about someone accessing your personal information in your absence.
1.Computer Documents - If you have personal documents, email a copy to your personal email address or save them on a disk, and delete the files from your office computer.
2.Email - Do the same with personal email messages you want to save - email them to yourself, then delete them. If you have online accounts where have used your business email address for the account log-in, change the accounts to your personal email address. Make sure you have the email addresses and phone numbers for the people you want to stay in contact with.
3.Software - If you downloaded software that is only relevant to you, not to the job, delete it. Delete any Instant Messaging programs you've downloaded, as well.
4.Internet Browsers - Delete your browsing history, cookies, saved passwords, and saved forms from your web browsers. In Internet Explorer go to: Tools/Internet Options/Browsing History and click Delete. In Firefox go to: Tools/Clear Private Data.

Dear Mr. Please accept my resignation as associate chemist at the GERT Institute. I plan to leave my job here on September 30, 2012, taking a few days of annual leave just prior to that effective date. As you know, my primary interest has been in the oil and gas industry. Therefore, I’ve accepted a position with Fury Refining, Inc., that should put me back in touch with my “first love.” Although I’m eager to accept the challenges in this new position, I regret leaving the institute. You and the organization as a whole have treated me very well over the past three years. I won’t forget the friendship and professional growth I’ve experienced as an employee here. Best wishes to all of you for years of expansion here. Sincerely, XXX

PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel is often known for hisability to understand what makes a companysuccessful and for having some contrarian points ofview. Following the sale of PayPal to eBay EBAY0.14% in 2002, Thiel founded global hedge fundClarium Capital Management, technology companyPalantir and venture capital firm Founders Fund, which has invested in companies like Spotify,Oculus and SpaceX. Thiel was also Facebook’s first outside investor and currently sits on itsboard. Through his Thiel Foundation, four years ago, he created the Thiel Fellowship for up-and-coming entrepreneurs under 20, who are each given $100,000 and two years to eschewhigher education and work on a venture of their choosing.
Known for his strong opinions about hot-button topics like education, company culture andcompetition, Thiel has been in the news of late promoting his new book Zero to One: Notes onStartups, or How to Build the Future, which he co-wrote with former student Blake Masters, and was based upon the notes that Masters took while taking Thiel’s computer science courseat Stanford. The authors aim to rebuff the notion that innovation is dead and instead delveinto how entrepreneurs can explore new technologies and create fresh inventions in currentfields and “uncharted frontiers.” We caught up with Thiel to talk about the value of being naiveand finding inspiration off the beaten track.
Q: Knowing what you know now, what would you have done differently when you were firststarting up? How did you learn this lesson?
A:When I was starting out, I followed along the path that seemed to be marked out for me —from high school to college to law school to professional life. When I was working at a NewYork law firm, that path came to a dead end. All the aspiring lawyers on the outside wanted toget in but all of the people I worked with wanted to get out. It was like Alcatraz but all you hadto do to escape was walk through the front door. So I left. And that experience helped merealize how many things in the world might be possible and valuable, yet ignored by mostpeople, simply because they are not found on any conventional track.
Q: What do you think would have happened if you had had this knowledge then?
A:If I’d realized how arbitrary it was, I might have gotten off the track a lot sooner. I know Iwould have thought about it more carefully. But there’s no way to run the experiment twice.
Q: How do you think young entrepreneurs might benefit from this insight?
A:An entrepreneur must deal with more uncertainty than a professional with a well-definedrole. Because of that uncertainty, there’s always a temptation to reach out for some kind ofguide, whether it’s old business school case studies, or, more likely, the most recent moves ofthe firms that you perceive to be competitors. Reacting to them can at least give some idea ofwhat to do. We’re so used to competing on tracks that entrepreneurs can quickly get caughtup in incremental battles with each other, almost without realizing it. But defining yourself by acompetitor means giving up the most important reason to be an entrepreneur: You can dosomething new in the world that won’t be done unless you are the one to do it.
Q: Besides inventing a time machine, how might they realize this wisdom sooner?
A:I don’t know. How to teach people to do what hasn’t been done is a great riddle. It’sbecause schools tend to breed a kind of process-oriented conformity that I started afellowship for young people who want to learn by getting something done in the real world —precisely so they can begin charting their own path as early as possible.
I taught a class at Stanford for the same reason — because I wanted to tell students that theydon’t have to accept the paths laid down by their schooling or by their competitors. Butfundamentally it’s something people have to figure out for themselves.
Q: What are you glad you didn’t know then that you know now?
A:If I had known how hard it would be to do something new, particularly in the paymentsindustry, I would never have started PayPal. That’s why nobody with long experience in bankinghad done it. You needed to be naive enough to think that new things could be done. And itturned out to be true: PayPal worked. But if I’d had more experience, I’m sure I would haveshied away from the risk and done something much more boring. This is one of the reasonsthat young people can have a strange advantage in technology in that they haven’t yet beenbrainwashed into thinking that current methods are inevitable.
Q: What is your best advice for aspiring entrepreneurs?
A:The most important thing is simple: Start with a small market and dominate that first. Bigmarkets are tempting because they seem full of opportunity but most of that opportunity willbe for others to compete with you. Instead focus your ambition on a definitively superiorsolution to a specific problem.
When living out our daily lives, it’s often easy to blame the world for our problems. While it’s true that there are things in the outside world we can’t control, the biggest difference between two people is simply their reaction towards it. Having understood this for a while, I’ve often asked the question, “How?”
How is it possible to change your reaction to a particular event or situation?
Why should you stop complaining? Here are three reasons that I believe—if you truly understand them—will help you move forward and live a less stressful life:
1. The world owes you nothing
The world really does have nothing to do with you or anyone else. The planet will continue to exist without you on it, which—as depressing as it sounds—should also provide you with a first glimpse of the reality of what your life should truly be about.
Through this, questions start to emerge such as: “If the world is irrelevant, who’s in charge of my life?” And, “What happens to my life from this point forward?”
You suddenly start to realize that while we were nurtured and looked after as kids, this really isn’t the case once we’re an adult. The world doesn’t provide us with the same blanket of comfort as our carers once did, which only means one thing: It’s up to us to provide that blanket for ourselves and no one else. Which brings me on to the second reason…
2. You are in charge of your own life
If you look back at your own life, you’ll begin to realize that everything you have ever done up to the present moment was all a result of the decisions you’ve made. Sure there may have been people around you who have convinced you to do some of the things you may have done. But it all ultimately depends on your decisions: So who’s really to blame?
You begin to see that amongst everything that’s happening around you, what you have is a blank canvas. Suddenly, your hopes and dreams aren’t dreams at all but are within the realm of possibility.
What are your dreams? What are your hopes and goals for the future? Do you have a plan? Start to think about what it might be and remind yourself daily that it’s all up to you to make things happen.
3. You can’t be a leader if you behave like a victim
Would you rather live a life with rules, or lead a life that is governed by you? I’m certain the answer is simple.
It’s really easy to put blame on things that are external to you, as it avoids personal responsibility and allows you to refuse the possibility that you may have things that can be changed. So what can you change?
Being a leader in your life takes courage and requires the willingness to face your fears, experience failure, and take complete personal responsibility of everything that happens to you. I challenge you to turn the mirror on yourself and to ask yourself the following question:
“What can I now do to turn my life around?”
You have no one else but you to make it happen.

We live in a capitalistic society in which everyone's trying to sell us something. Everyone's looking out for themselves in one way or another, and you need to do the same. Stop putting yourself out because you're too shy to say no.

As college doors start to swish and swing open, slurping young people back in for fall classes, I feel compelled to put my hand up and say, "Wait, you forgot something."
I have something I want to tell them before they head back up the university's hill to walk new halls, meet new faces and make new decisions that could change their lives. What I wish I had known.
Precious young person, before you leave, can you turn off your phone and let me share something valuable with you? I know you think I am too old to understand you, but I promise, some days I feel closer to your age than I do my own. I haven't forgotten.
What I see in front of me is a life that is valuable and worth more than you can possibly know today. I hope to save you a lot of time, pain and regret.
The 20 Things I Wish Someone Told Me at 20:
1. Hold tight to your real friends and don't forget the closeness that you feel now.
It is real, and over time, life will try to tease those connections away. They will mean everything.
2. Although you're smart ... your brain isn't done maturing. Listen to your parents more than you want. REALLY.
Your brain doesn't fully connect all of the dots until you're about 23. Trust me. Trust THEM.
3. Keep the joy of being 'in the moment.'
You will have to focus on the future so much as you get older -- being mindful to the moment becomes a lost gift.
4. You will miss your youthful body one day -- love it and take care of it.
There will come a day when you become nostalgic for all of those body parts that you don't like now. Take care of them, exercise and enjoy the freedom of your abilities.
5. If someone has cut you down, that is about THEM, not YOU.
Unkind words are often used to cut a strong person down to make the insecure one feel better. Don't let them stick.
6. Apologize: mean it & make it better.
Say "I'm sorry," drop your ego and fix things humbly, without excuses.
7. Education is THAT important.
With 100% certainty, you will be proud of your degrees ... and you will regret it if you don't complete them.
8. You can say NO to sexual contact.
You own your body. Walking away is tough in the moment, but your spirit will thank you. And, trust me, in later years, those decisions will fill you and your partner with pride.
9. Whatever you POST is PERMANENT.
Envision that picture, video or comment being pushed across the desk to you as you interview for your first job.
10. Trust the calling on your heart.
Don't quiet the voice inside your spirit. DO the work to get where you are called to go ... even if it is not where someone else thinks you should be going.
11. Spirituality/Religion will be what saves you when the world goes out.
Always keep a personal spiritual relationship with God - this will guide you, strengthen you & bring you peace. Pray. Meditate. Listen. Every day.
12. Travel.
Seize any (safe) opportunity to journey to a new place, immerse in a new culture, or experience new landscape. Your mind will open in immeasurable ways.
13. Don't poison yourself. Don't smoke. Don't take drugs. Don't drink soda.
Toxins affect your outward beauty. Treat your body as purely as possible. It will show.
14. Consider the other side of the story.
Listen to someone that you don't agree with - ask them where they came from and why they feel the way they do, without judgment. Be OPEN.
15. Talk yourself out of the need to compare yourself.
Strive to be the best YOU, not a copy of the person next to you. Know your strengths. Don't belittle your weaknesses.
16. Talk to your educators. Ask for help. Be known and be memorable.
By being known, teachers will be more invested in you and your success. You might also gain a mentor.
17. Love your parents. Love your grandparents.
