Men found it twice as hard to guess a woman’s mood than a man’s after being shown pictures of people’s eyes and estimating how they were feeling, researchers found.
However, the study showed that it is not because of men’s lack of trying - the male volunteers were given brain scans while they looked at the pictures, and the data suggested an unusual reason for the difficulty in reading women’s feelings.
When looking at male eyes, men related what they saw to themselves, with the parts of their brains linked to past thoughts and feelings lighting up, the Daily Mail reported.
The study suggested that they understood what other men felt by remembering similar moments in their own lives, and then used them to evaluate the image, the researchers said.
But when they looked at female eyes, the men were baffled, as their brains searched for memories of when they had seen another woman who looked similar to the image, and meant men found it harder to empathise with women’s feelings.
The scientists found that the amygdala, a part of the brain believed to be important for empathy with others, showed more activity when men looked at a man, rather than a woman.
The researchers, from the LWL University Hospital in Bochum, western Germany, said the male ability to decipher a woman's thoughts from her expression relates to earlier periods of history when being able to tell what another man was thinking – and whether he posed a threat – was much more important.
Commenting on the results of the study, published in journal PLoS ONE, the researchers said: “As men were more involved in hunting and territory fights, it would have been important for them to be able to predict and foresee the intentions and actions of their male rivals.”

They may forget anniversaries and buy last minute Valentine’s gifts from petrol stations, but men are, apparently, more romantic than women.
A survey found that while 48 percent have fallen in love at first sight, a mere 28 percent of women could claim the same.
The research, published in new book The Normal Bar, questioned 10,000 people worldwide about their attitude towards love and relationships.
The Normal Bar is the brainchild of entrepreneur Chrisanna Northrupp and is co-authored by academics Professor Pepper Schwartz, sociologist at the University of Washington, and Professor James Schwartz, Director of the Centre for Social Science Research at George Mason University in Virginia.
Using data collected from their online survey, the book aims to dispel the myths surrounding sexuality and relationships, shed light on what a real 21st century relationship entails and help make your own relationship more satisfying.
The survey, which is ongoing, contains 1,300 questions and touches on everything from sex to the most attractive physical features to personality traits a prospective partner looks for, the Washington Post reported.
Other interesting figures from the survey included the finding that only 74 per cent of people are happy in their relationship and 66 per cent of those questioned believe their partner is their soul mate.
The books goes on to explain that for many, the secret to a happy relationship includes having regular date nights, using pet names, holding hands, passionate kissing, back rubs and frequently saying 'I love you'.
But the most important factor, which almost everyone surveyed agreed on, was communication. In unhappy relationships, a lack of communication was cited as the number one reason for it breaking down.

You'd think the carefree days of childhood would rank as most people's happiest.
But in fact men are happiest at 40 while women are most content at 38 when they are fit and healthy and have good friends.
A survey revealed that the best moments in life are the birth of a first child, your wedding day and the birth of grandchildren.
The findings, from a poll of 1,000 people aged 70 and over by the insurance firm Beagle Street, show that loving relationships are more important than money or material gain.
The most common regrets were choosing the wrong career and not pursuing lifelong dreams.
The research involved quizzing 1,000 'life experts' aged 70 or older who have the benefit of life experience and hindsight. They were asked about their happiest moments and their biggest regrets in life.
Other happiest moments to make the top ten included the day you retire, moving into a new home, seeing your child's first steps and meeting the man or woman of your dreams.
The research was carried out by online insurance company Beagle Street to mark the release of a new short film called Happiest Moment, featuring some of the UK's oldest couples passing on advice to the younger generation.
More than half the people questioned said they had no regrets in life, but for those that did the most common regret was choosing the wrong career and not pursuing lifelong dreams.
One in ten of those with regrets wished they had worked harder in school and seven per cent regretted not travelling the world more.
The other two to make the top five were getting divorced and getting married too soon.
The top piece if advice the pensioners could pass on to younger generations was to never take the people you love for granted.
Other top pearls of wisdom were 'believe in yourself', 'nothing worth having comes easy' and 'don't hold grudges'.
Matthew Gledhill, managing director of Beagle Street, said: 'The overwhelming message from those with the most life experience is that the key to happiness is to worry less and live in the moment with the people you care about most.
'We commissioned Happiest Moment because we want our customers to be happy as it is scientifically proven that happier people live longer.“
'As much as people look to the future and try to climb career ladders, the film and our research clearly show that happiness is linked much more heavily to relationships, friends and family than societal or monetary status.'
Age 33 is the best year of our lives, a new survey has found.
A British website, Friends Reunited, says that 70% of people over 40 picked that age as their happiest. Just 6% said they were content during their college years, the site reported. And only 16% pined for theirchildhood years. One in three surveyed found their happiness in having children, while only one in five linked their sense of joy to their job.
“The age of 33 is enough time to have shaken off childhood naivete and the wild scheming of teenaged years without losing the energy and enthusiasm of youth. By this age innocence has been lost, but our sense of reality is mixed with a strong sense of hope. We have yet to develop the cynicism and world-weariness that comes with later years.” psychologist Donna Dawson said.

After 21 years of marriage, I discovered a new way ofkeeping alive the spark of love. I started to go outwith another woman. It was really my wife's idea.
"I know that you love her," she said one day, takingme by surprise. "But I love YOU," I protested. "Iknow, but you also love her."
The other woman that my wife wanted me to visitwas my mother, who has been a widow for 19 years, but the demands of my work and my three childrenhad made it possible to visit her only occasionally. That night I called to invite her to go out for dinner and a movie. “What’s wrong, are you well?”she asked. My mother is the type of woman who suspects that a late night call or a surpriseinvitation is a sign of bad news. "I thought that it would be pleasant to pass some time withyou," I responded. "Just the two of us." She thought about it for a moment, then said, "I wouldlike that very much."
That Friday after work, as I drove over to pick her up I was a bit nervous. When I arrived at herhouse, I noticed that she, too, seemed to be nervous about our date. She waited in the doorwith her coat on. She had curled her hair and was wearing the dress that she had worn tocelebrate her last wedding anniversary. She smiled from a face that was as radiant as anangel's. "I told my friends that I was going to go out with my son, and they were impressed,"she said, as she got into the car. "They can't wait to hear about our meeting."
We went to a restaurant that, although not elegant, was very nice and cozy. My mother tookmy arm as if she were the First Lady. After we sat down, I had to read the menu. Her eyescould only read large print. Half way through the entries, I lifted my eyes and saw Mom sittingthere staring at me. A nostalgic smile was on her lips. "It was I who used to have to read themenu when you were small," she said. "Then it's time that you relax and let me return thefavor," I responded.
During the dinner we had an agreeable conversation — nothing extraordinary — butcatching up on recent events of each other's life. We talked so much that we missed the movie. As we arrived at her house later, she said, "I'll go out with you again, but only if you let meinvite you." I agreed.
"How was your dinner date?" asked my wife when I got home. "Very nice. Much more so than Icould have imagined," I answered.
A few days later my mother died of a massive heart attack. It happened so suddenly that Ididn't have a chance to do anything for her. At that moment I understood the importance ofsaying in time: "I LOVE YOU" and to give our loved ones the time that they deserve. Nothing inlife is more important than your family. Give them the time they deserve, because these thingscannot be put off till "some other time".

He might like you to believe he's as hard as nails, but don’t be fooled by your man’s tough exterior.
Enlightening new research has found that men are in fact more emotional than women.
The experiment found that when men and women watched the same heart-warming videos, it was the men who experienced stronger physiological reactions.
But true to type, when asked about their emotions, the women admitted feeling more emotional than the men did.
In the experiment, a group of 30 participants (15 fathers and 15 mothers) were presented with a series of images and videos, while their physiological responses were measured via skin conductance electrodes attached to their fingers.
The content they were presented with was categorised into four topics: blissful, funny, exciting and heart-warming.
Men demonstrated a marginally higher emotional reaction to the blissful, funny and exciting content, compared to the women.
However, the experiment found that men responded twice as strongly as women with higher levels of physiological emotion when presented with heart-warming content.
The men’s emotional reactions significantly spiked when they watched a video of a solider coming home from war and reuniting with his daughter.
As part of the experiment, participants also had to rate the content on a questionnaire to say how it made them feel.
As expected, women said they felt more emotional in response to the content compared to the men.
However, even though men reported feeling less emotion than women, their physiological changes showed that in fact they felt emotion more strongly.

The research, sponsored by KS Mobile, examined, among many aspects, whether there was a gender bias in phone choice.
A fulsome 45 percent of all the women questioned said that they preferred Apple as their mobile device provider. Apple was the king, or perhaps queen, in every region of America.
The only area in which another brand enjoyed supremacy was in one particular age group. Women aged 40-49 plumped for Samsung (36 percent), rather than Apple as their one true love. For men, however, the tale is quite different. Their preferred provider is Samsung.
Yes, gentlemen prefer a Galaxy over an iPhone, although not in quite such severe numbers as the women. Again there was one outlyingage group that didn't want to go along with the male crowd. Men aged 50-59 preferred Apple (34 percent).
Overall, Apple was the preferred brand of 39 percent of the respondents, with Samsung still 10 points behind.
It is, perhaps, no surprise that these were the two brands that dominated people's lists. However, one statistic ought to give hope to MicroNokia and other brands that might aspire as they perspire.

My friend John McHugh is always telling me things, things that younger men need wiser, older men totell them. Things like whom to trust, how to love, how to live a good life.
Not long ago John lost his wife, Janet, to cancer. Godknows she was a fighter, but in the end the diseasewon their eight-year battle.
One day John pulled a folded paper from his wallet. He’d found it, he told me, while going throughdrawers in his house. It was a love note, in Janet’s handwriting. It looked a little like aschoolgirl’s daydream note about the boy across the way. All that was missing was a hand-drawn heart and the names John and Janet. Except this note was written by the mother ofseven children, a woman who had begun the battle for her life, and very probably was withinmonths of the end.
It was also a wonderful prescription for holding a marriage together. This is how JanetMcHugh’s note about her husband begins:” Loved. Cared. Worried. ”
As quick with a joke an John is, apparently he didn’t joke with his wife about cancer. He’d comehome, and she’d be in one of the moods cancer patients get lost in, and he’d have her in thecar faster than you can say DiNardo’s, her favorite restaurant. “Get in the car,” he’d say,” I’mtaking you out to dinner.”
He worried, and she knew it. You don’t hide things from someone who knows better.
“Helped me when I was sick.” is next. Maybe Janet wrote her list when the cancer was in one ofthose horrible and wonderful remission periods, when all is as it was—almost—before thedisease, so what harm is there in hoping that it’s behind you, maybe for good?
“Forgave me for a lot of things.”
“Stood by me.”
And then, good service to those of us who think giving constructive criticism is our religiouscalling: “Always complimentary.”
“Provide everything I ever needed.” Janet McHugh next wrote.
Then she’d turned the man she had lived with and been in love with for the majority of her life. She’d written:” Always there when I needed you.”
The last thing she wrote sums up all the others. I can picture her adding it thoughtfully to herlist. ”Good friend.”
I stand beside John now, unable even to pretend that I know what it feels like to lose someoneso close. I need to hear what he has to say, much more than he needs to talk.
“John,” I ask,” how do you stick by someone through 38 years of marriage. “let done thesickness too? How do I know I’d have what it takes to stand by my wife if she got sick?”
“you will,” he says. ”If you love her enough, you will.”

It's no secret that men tend to see younger women as more attractive, but according to a graph based on data from OKCupid dating profiles, women tend to be most attracted to men who are around their same age. But the case is drastically different for men; the graph shows that once a woman passes the age of 22, she becomes exponentially less attractive to men.
At an event in mid-August, Mr Rudder, 39, explained the results to a dumbfounded crowd. 'Women who are, say, 28, find guys who are also 28 about the most attractive. By contrast, women begin to decline in attractiveness - from the perspective of men - as soon as they hit their early twenties. 'It is kind of terrible,' he admitted. 'From the time you're 22 you'll be less hot than a 20-year-old, based on this data. So that's just a thing.'
While these status may be depressing, Mr Rudder clarifies that it doesn't mean all women over 22 should necessarily expect to be left high and dry. 'This is just measuring people's opinions, not what they actually go out and do,' he told NPR. 'What you see when you actually look at what people do, you see the realism set in. So these 40-year-old guys... the people they actually have the courage to actually go out and message are a lot older: it's 30, 35-year-old women.'
On his blog, OKData, he delves into this pattern even further, explaining that as men get older they tend to search for younger and younger women. 'The median 31-year-old guy, for example, sets his allowable match age range from 22 to 35 - nine years younger, but only four years older, than himself,' he writes. 'This skewed mindset worsens with age; the median 42-year-old will accept a woman up to 15 years younger, but no more than three years older.'
Apart from data about age, Mr Rudder's book also details a number of other fascinating ways we interact and perceive each other. 'If there's one thing I sincerely hope this book might get you to reconsider, it's what you think about yourself,' he writes in the introduction. 'Because that's what this book is really about. '

Many men are never taught how to talk to women. Because of this many guys go through life without the ability to attract a woman. Here are 13 tips to help make sure you aren't making mistakes with the women you'd like to attract:
1. You should talk about “emotional” topics like childhood memories, future ambitions, or her passions. These conversation topics will open up her emotional floodgates。
2. Women want a guy who is not afraid to lead her. While talking to a woman take control of the conversation. Never wait for her to dictate what you'll be talking about。
3. Pay attention to the non-verbal cues a woman is giving you. If you're standing too close to her, accidentally spitting when you talk, or making her feel uncomfortable in any way… she will send you hints. Pay attention to them。
4. Remember this motto “Fun not Funny。” Women are attracted to men who allow them to have fun. Don't concentrate on having the funniest jokes. Concentrate on showing them the most excitement and enjoyment。
5. Teasewomen. One of the easiest ways to take a conversation to a fun and flirty level is to begin to tease women. Think back to your time on the playground. In the world of dating… what worked on the playground is effective all over again。
6. Get intimate with her. Women are turned on by men who are not afraid to take a conversation to a personal, intimate level。
7. Use things like “cold reads” to turn women on. Women love to hear opinions about themselves. Tell her what you observe about her。
8. Avoid complimentinga woman too much. Women are turned off by men who come across as “needy。” If you are complimenting a woman too much she will think you're trying to impress her. Which will have the opposite effect。
9. If you want to know how to talk to women in a way that doesn't bore them… Avoid asking too many “interview” style questions. Instead state your opinion about things。
10. Remember: Statements over questions. Instead of saying “where did you grow up?” Say “You don't look like you grew up around here。” This allows you to make observations about her and express your personality。
11. Don't hide your identity. Don't be afraid to talk about whatever you're passionate about。
12. Use conversation “games” to keep the mood fun and flirtatious. Games can be anything like “truth or dare” or to less extreme games like the “5 questions game”。
13. Don't give away your hand so fast. Women like men who are a challenge. If you want to keep a woman's interest she has to feel like she is slowly winning you over. If she thinks you're too easy… she'll lose interest。
The best way to think about how to talk to women is to think about what kind of fun, playful, and sexual conversation you would most enjoy. Talking to a woman doesn't have to be difficult. You just need to be aware of what they are turned on by and what turns them off. Follow the list above and you'll do just fine。

Who was the first man?
A teacher said to her class:”Who was the first man?”
“George Washington,” a little boy shouted promptly.
“How do you make out that George Washington was the first man?”asked the teacher, smiling indulgently.
“Because,” said the little boy, “he was first in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen.”
But at this point a larger boy held up his hand. “Well,” said the teacher to him, “who do you think was the first man?”
“I don’t know what his name was, ” said the larger boy, “but I know it wasn’t George Washington, ma’am, because the history book says George Washington married a widow, so, of course, there must have been a man ahead of him.”

Women search high and low for a truly great guy. When I was in my teens, I thought I could have it all: the guy with the model looks, fabulous family, fantastic job, who knows his purpose in life and knows to automatically rub my feet when I get home from work.
Obviously, I had a quick wake-up call that the fairy tale I dreamed of didn’t exist! That didn’t mean I couldn’t have what I wanted, it just meant I had to reevaluate some of the qualities that I wanted my partner to have. Here are seven of the most important qualities women find attractive in men:

1. An ability to enjoy the present moment
With how busy we are and how connected we are to everyone and everything virtually, it is so attractive when a man can put his phone down, turn off the TV, shut down the computer and just enjoy being present. It is nice to be connected and be able to access almost any information that we need at the drop of a dime, but to be able to shut down without getting antsy to get back to Facebook or football is something you don’t come by too often.
2. Knowing your purpose
Nothing is more sexy than a man who isn’t afraid to go for what he was sent here to do. There are a ton of men out there who believe they need to be “big strong men” and do what they were taught, but it takes a truly special man to put himself out there and follow what he was meant to do.
3. A man who is motivated and driven is awesome
No, I’m not talking about an expensive car. I’m talking about a man who has the ability to go after what he wants. Ambition is something that women find very attractive in men. Not ambition in the sense that you knock other people down to build yourself up, but in the fact that you will work hard to get what you want and help others to do the same thing.
4. Attractiveness comes from making us laugh
It has been my experience in all of my relationships—and with men I’ve had crushes on—that I would choose the man who made me laugh over the drop dead sexy one. Every. Single.Time. Women want a guy who values what a good laugh can do for your body and soul. Women truly appreciate men who can make them laugh and laugh at themselves too.
5. Honesty and trustworthiness
I don’t know about you, but knowing that I can trust a man is so important. Although, if my butt still looks fat in those jeans, I don’t want to know! In all seriousness though, knowing that a man will tell me the truth is very important. Communication and trust are two of the biggest things that make or break relationships.
6. A man who takes care of himself is sexy
Something that is so attractive in men is when they take care of themselves. Now that doesn’t mean you have to be pumping iron all day, every day, but to really know what types of foods you’re putting into your body and how to take care of it is pretty darn sexy.
7. A man who is supportive of our dreams and goals
When a man stands behind me 100%, no matter what, it shows how much he cares and truly believes in me. Being with someone who believes in you and your potential, and vice versa, will create a different dynamic in your relationship. There is less tension and less negativity because of how you believe in each other.
These are just a few of the many qualities that women find attractive in men. What qualities am I missing? What do you find attractive in men?
