American Thanksgiving Day, which falls on Nov 24 this year, takes on an entirely different look in China, where malls and e-businesses are competing in sale promotions as the holiday approaches.
Malls and markets fixate on the word 'Thanksgiving' to dip into the pockets of their customers.
Taobao, China's biggest online shopping website, sells turkey masks for children. And Hogwarts School uniforms from Harry Potter are among the hot sellers.
在美国,感恩节传统有family reunion and feasting(家人团聚),tradition of Turkey(传统食物火鸡),parades(游行),football games(橄榄球比赛)。

Remarks of President Barack Obama
Weekly Address
The White House
November 27, 2014
On behalf of the Obama family -- Michelle, Malia, Sasha, Bo, and Sunny -- I want to wish you a very happy Thanksgiving. Like many of you, we'll spend the day with family and friends, catching up, eating some good food and watching a little football. Before we lift a fork, we lend a hand by going out in the community to serve some of our neighbors in need. And we give thanks for each other, and for all of God's blessings.
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because, more than any other, it is uniquely American. Each of us brings our own traditions and cultures and recipes to the table -- but we all share this day, united by the gratitude for the bounty of this nation. And we welcome the contributions of all people -- no matter their origin or color or beliefs -- who call America home, and who enrich the life of our nation. It is a creed as old as our founding: "E pluribus unum" -- that our of many, we are one.
We are reminded that this creed, and America itself, was never an inevitability, but the result of ordinary people in every generation doing their part to uphold our founding ideals -- by taking the blessings of freedom, and multiplying them for those who would follow. As President Kennedy once wrote, even as we give thanks for all that we've inherited from those who came before us -- "the decency of purpose, steadfastness of resolve and strength of will, for the courage and the humility, which they posessed," we must also remember that "the highest appreciation is not to utter words but to live by them."
Today, we are grateful to all Americans who do their part to live by those ideals, including our brave men and women in uniform overseas and their families, who sacrifice so much to keep America safe. To our service members who are away from home, we say an extra prayer for you and your loved ones, and we renew our commitment to take care of you as well as you've taken care of us.
We are grateful to the countless Americans who serve their communities in soup kitchens and shelters, looking out for those who are less fortunate, and lifting up those who have fallen on hard times. This generosity, this compassion, this belief that we are each other's keepers, is essential to who we are, not just on this day, but every day.
It's easy to focus on what separates us. But as we gather with loved ones on this Thanksgiving, let's remember and be grateful for what binds us together. Our love of country. Our commitment to justice and equality. Our belief that America's best days are ahead, and that her destiny is ours to shape -- and that our inherited ideals must be the birthright of all of our children.
That's what today is all about: that out of many, we are one. Thank you, God bless you, and from my family to yours, Happy Thanksgiving.

god has two dwellings, one in heaven, and the other in a meek and thankful heart. be grateful to others is a way to show your love. in our daily life, we often receive help from our parents, friends, colleagues and strangers. perhaps it is a little thing, pick up the pen you drop, lift a heavy box for you or offer you a seat in the bus. we should be thankful to them for whatever they have done. the more love you give, the more love you receive.

It was the day before Thanksgiving -- the first onemy three children and I would be spending withouttheir father, who had left several months before. Now the two older children were very sick with theflu, and the eldest had just been prescribed bed restfor a week.
It was a cool, gray day outside, and a light rainwas falling. I grew wearier as I scurried around, trying to care for each child: thermometers, juice, diapers. And I was fast running out of liquids for thechildren. But when I checked my purse, all I found was about $2.50 -- and this was supposedto last me until the end of the month. That's when I heard the phone ring.
It was the secretary from our former church, and she told me that they had been thinkingabout us and had something to give us from the congregation. I told her that I was going outto pick up some more juice and soup for the children, and I would drop by the church on myway to the market.
I arrived at the church just before lunch. The church secretary met me at the door andhanded me a special gift envelope. "We think of you and the kids often," she said, "and youare in our hearts and prayers. We love you." When I opened the envelope, I found two grocerycertificates inside. Each was worth $20. I was so touched and moved, I broke down and cried.
"Thank you very much,"I said, as we hugged each other. "Please give our love and thanks tothe church."Then I drove to a store near our home and purchased some much-needed items forthe children.
At the check-out counter I had a little over $14.00 worth of groceries, and I handed thecashier one of the gift certificates. She took it, then turned her back for what seemed like avery long time. I thought something might be wrong. Finally I said, "This gift certificate is a realblessing. Our former church gave it to my family, knowing I'm a single parent trying to makeends meet."
The cashier then turned around, with tears in her loving eyes, and replied, "Honey, that'swonderful! Do you have a turkey?""No. It's okay because my children are sick anyway." Shethen asked, "Do you have anything else for Thanksgiving dinner?"
Again I replied, "No." After handing me the change from the certificate, she looked at myface and said, "Honey, I can't tell you exactly why right now, but I want you to go back into thestore and buy a turkey, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie or anything else you need for aThanksgiving dinner."
I was shocked, and humbled to tears. "Are you sure?" I asked. "Yes! Get whatever youwant. And get some Gatorade for the kids."
I felt awkward as I went back to do some more shopping, but I selected a fresh turkey, afew yams and potatoes, and some juices for the children. Then I wheeled the shopping cart upto the same cashier as before. As I placed my groceries on the counter, she looked at meonce more with giant tears in her kind eyes and began to speak.
"Now I can tell you. This morning I prayed that I could help someone today, and you walkedthrough my line."She reached under the counter for her purse and took out a $20 bill. Shepaid for my groceries and then handed me the change. Once more I was moved to tears.
The sweet cashier then said, "I am a Christian. Here is my phone number if you ever needanything."She then took my head in her hands, kissed my cheek and said, "God bless you,Honey."
As I walked to my car, I was overwhelmed by this stranger's love and by the realization thatGod loves my family too, and shows us his love through this stranger's and my church's kinddeeds.
The children were supposed to have spent Thanksgiving with their father that year, butbecause of the flu they were home with me, for a very special Thanksgiving Day. They werefeeling better, and we all partook the goodness of the Lord's bounty -- and our community'slove. Our hearts were truly filled with thanks.

There is a temple at the foot of Nanshan, and anancient banyan is in front of it.
One morning,a young monk gets up to clean up thecourtyard and sees the fallen leaves from theancient banyan are everywhere,he can't helpworrying and look at the tree to sigh.
For his sorrow is on the toppest,he throws down thebroom and rushes to his master's room ,then heknocks on the door to plea for interview.
His master hears it and opens the door, when he sees the disciple's worried look,he thinkssomething takes place,so he hurries to ask him:" My disciple, what does you worry about somuch in the early morning? "
The young disciple is full of doubt and tells him:"Master, you persuades us to be diligent tocultivate our moral character and grasp the truth day and night, but, even I learn them well ,itis hard to avoid to die.Till that time,so-called me, so-called Dao, aren't they just like thedefoliation in autumn or the deadwood in winter? and they will be buried by a heap of loess?"
After hearing it ,the old monk points at the ancient banyan and says to the young monk:" Mydisciple ,you don't need to worry about this.In fact, the defoliation in autumn and thedeadwood in winter will climb back to the trees silently and become the flowers in spring andgrow up into the leaves in summer at the time of autumnal winds is blowing strongliest and thesnow falls down most heavily."
"Why don't I see it?"
"It is the reason that there isn't any view in your heart, so you can't see the bloom ."
Facing the withering defoliations and imaging they will be in bud,it needs to have an immortal ofspring heart, an optimism of heart.
There are always some miseries you will meet in your whole life and strike you when you areunprepared, but we don't need to worry day after day for the arrival of this day, and feel sorryto yourself.
Treating the life with the attitude of the optimism, it can not only dissolve the agony andmisfortune , but also bring a kind of pleased mood to you everyday and make your life brightand flourishing .
As long as the view is in the heart, aren't the paths full of fragrance of flowers everywhere?

God puts dreams in our hearts. So, we must dream. We lose our sorrows and heartaches in dreams. And we live our fantasies in dreams. Some dreams are aborted while some come true.
Most mornings, I'd sit by the Lake in my neighborhood just to witness the awesomeness of God; to be marveled at what Mother Nature is about to unfold... to shower us with her magnificence. The squirrels too gather by the edge of the Lake. The birds float effortlessly, circling the Lake in a beautiful ballet. The gators stand in awe. Yes, the gators! The leaves on the trees would suddenly stop their slow dance. Just like me, they are patiently awaiting for the grand entrance of the sun. The moon must go. Yes, the moon must go... to make room for the sun to rise. The sound of the gentle breeze is soothing, almost musical. I am filled with joy. I cannot describe the feeling of this awesomeness. You'd have to experience it to understand the feeling and joy of it. I know I am about to witness an amazing grace. So... I am silent. My spirit is at peace. The stage has been set. Behind those clouds, the sun awaits... waiting for the heavenly command. The ritual is in full bloom. Then I see a slice of sunlight, wafting through the clouds. Suddenly, the entire horizon is brightened, and the sun finally takes the center stage. Right there, I am still... humbled... to listen to God speak into my soul. When He's done, then, I share with Him all that my heart desires.
Now, here's my personal dream story:
Eight years ago, a young couple very dear to my heart had a miscarriage after being attacked by armed robbers in their home. They were newly weds. They share the kind of love that makes one want to give love a second chance. Why? They truly love each other and, they take God on board with them in all that they do.
I am your typical all-year-round-positive-kinda-girl. But, it doesn't mean I do not have my down moments. I stay positive and thankful because I know there's a reason for every season. Since the couple had that miscarriage, they felt empty. For awhile, they wondered if God had abandoned them. They fasted and prayed. They cried. They isolated themselves from family and friends. Basically, they were existing, and not living. They travelled far and wide, spending all their resources, seeing different OBGYNs. Nothing worked.
One day, I called them to say hello. The wife sounded like someone had died. When I asked, she said, "I am fine. Nobody died. Just tired." When I spoke with her husband, he shared with me that she had just seen her period, menstrual period, that is. I asked him if I could speak with her again. I believe till this day that it was the grace of God that led me to make that phone call. It was time to share my one dream with her.
"For eight years, I always had same dream, You were in it. You were always nursing a child while rocking him/her in a rocking chair. In the dream, there was always a celebration happening...like a Christening, and you were in it, with your husband by your side." She was silent. I had to share some life lessons with her. I also had to remind her that she must never allow her faith to be shaken, instead, it should be renewed with each sunrise because God is Hope.
I read somewhere that when Life breaks us, "We are only broken to be made whole." Therefore, we must strive not to fall apart.
I shared this dream with my mother. And each time, we got excited together and submitted this dream of mine to God in prayers and in songs of praise, after all, God is just a prayer away. And God sure loves to be praised.
Many moons ago, I remember waking up in the middle of the night, covered in sweat. I was woken up by a sharp pain in my stomach. I had a dream. This time, I was the one pregnant. I went down on my knees in total submission to the Will of God...asking Him for my one dream to come true. And no, I did not wish to be pregnant (Laughs).
I do know one thing for sure: Dreams really do come true when you believe in your dreams, when you give God something to work with (doing your part), and when you believe in and trust God.
God finally granted me the dream of my heart. This winter, this man and wife are expecting their first child.
When I received this great news, I was not surprised. The awesomeness of God is immeasurable. I am always in total submission to His Will. I believed this dream was going to come true at God's own time. And, this is God's time. For this, I am most thankful and humbled by this amazing grace.

I used to watch her from my kitchen window, she seemed so small as she muscled her way through the crowd of boys on the playground. The school was across the street from our home and I would often watch the kids as they played during recess. A sea of children, and yet to me, she stood out from them all. I remember the first day I saw her playing basketball. I watched in wonder as she ran circles around the other kids. She managed to shoot jump shots just over their heads and into the net. The boys always tried to stop her but no one could. I began to notice her at other times, basketball in hand, playing alone. She would practice dribbling and shooting over and over again, sometimes until dark. One day I asked her why she practiced so much. She looked directly in my eyes and without a moment of hesitation she said, “I want to go to college. The only way I can go is if I get a scholarship. I like basketball. I decided that if I were good enough, I would get a scholarship. I am going to play college basketball. I want to be the best. My Daddy told me if the dream is big enough, the facts don't count.” Then she smiled and ran towards the court to recap the routine I had seen over and over again. Well, I had to give it to her—she was determined. I watched her through those junior high years and into high school. Every week, she led her varsity team to victory.
One day in her senior year, I saw her sitting in the grass, head cradled in her arms. I walked across the street and sat down in the cool grass beside her. Quietly I asked what was wrong. “Oh, nothing,” came a soft reply. “I am just too short.” The coach told her that at 5’5” she would probably never get to play for a top ranked team— much less offered a scholarship—so she should stop dreaming about college. She was heartbroken and I felt my own throat tighten as I sensed her disappointment. I asked her if she had talked to her dad about it yet. She lifted her head from her hands and told me that her father said those coaches were wrong. They just did not understand the power of a dream. He told her that if she really wanted to play for a good college, if she truly wanted a scholarship, that nothing could stop her except one thing — her own attitude. He told her again, “If the dream is big enough, the facts don't count.” The next year, as she and her team went to the Northern California Championship game, she was seen by a college recruiter. She was indeed offered a scholarship, a full ride, to a Division 1, NCAA women's basketball team. She was going to get the college education that she had dreamed of and worked toward for all those years.
It's true: If the dream is big enough, the facts don't count.
