When you had fallen to the bottom of your life, every people around you would tell you: Be hard-bitten and be happy!
To be hard-bitten would be necessary, but be happy? Even in that serious occation? That would be hard for you, after all, who could keep happy while he were head-broken and bleeding.
But you should at least keep calm, calmly facing and calmly treating.
If you have obtained the calmness, without happy and without unhappy, you then have possessed the power for rebirth.

Man's youth is a wonderful thing: it is so full of anguish and of magic and he never comes to know it as it is, until it has gone from him forever. It is the thing he cannot bear to lose, it is the thing whose passing he watches with infinite sorrow and regret, it is the thing whose loss with a sad and secret joy, the thing he would never willingly relive again, could it be restored to him by any magic.
Why is this? The reason is that the strange and bitter miracle of life is nowhere else so evident as in our youth. And what is the essence of that strange and bitter miracle of life which we feel so poignant , so unutterable, with such a bitter pain and joy, when we are young? It is this: that being rich, we are so poor; that being mighty, we can yet have nothing; that seeing, breathig, smelling, tasting all around us the impossible wealth and glory of this earth, feeling with an intolerable certitude that the whole structure of the enchanted life – the most fortunate, wealthy, good, and happy life that any man has ever known – is ours – is ours at once, immediately and forever, the moment that we choose to take a step, or stretch a hand, or say a word- we yet know that we can really keep, hold, take, and possess forever- nothing. All passes; nothing lasts: the moment that we put our hand upon it , it melts away like smoke, is gone forever, and the snake is eating at our heart again; we see then what we are and what our lives must come to.
A young man is so strong, so mad, so certain, and so lost. He has everything and he is able to use nothing. He hurls the great shoulder of his strength forever against phantasmalbarriers, he is a wave whose power explodes in lost mid – oceans under timeless skies, here-aches out to grip a fume of painted smoke, he wants all, feels the thirst and power foreverything, and finally gets nothing. In the end, he is destroyed by his own strength, devoured by his own hunger, impoverished by his own wealth. Thoughtless of money or the accumulation of material possessions, he is none the less defeated in the end by his own greed a greed that makes the avarice of King Midas seem paltry by comparison.
And that is the reason why, when youth is gone, every man will look back upon that period of his life with infinite sorrow and regret. It is the bitter sorrow and regret of a man who knows that once he had a great talent and wasted it , of a man who knows that once he had a great treasure and got nothing from it , of a man who knows that he had strength enough for everything and never used it.

It hurts to love someone and not be loved in return. But what is more painful is to love someone and never find the courage to let that person know how you feel.
A sad thing in life is when you meet someone who means a lot to you, only to find out in the end that it was never meant to be and you just have to let go.
The best kind of friend is the kind you can sit on a porch swing with, never say a word, and then walk away feeling like it was the best conversation you've ever had.
It's true that we don't know what we've got until we lose it, but it's also true that we don't know what we've been losing until it arrives.
It takes only a minute to get a crush on someone,an hour to like someone, and a day to love someone- but it takes a lifetime to forget someone.
Don't go for looks;they can deceive. Don't go for wealth;even that fades away. Go for someone who makes you smile because it takes only a smile to make a dark day seem bright.

or the hurried steps on the stairs made by those whohastened to catch the time
brough me back to consciousness, and before mywindow of heart being opened,
my hand had reached out of the warm quilt
to the watch placed on the bed-stand.
With a sleeping look at the watch,
I repeated the time deep in my heart,"Twenty to seven."
"What?Twenty to seven?"
Throwing the quilt aside without losing time,
I jumped to my feet and addressed myself at flying speed.

I turned to the closet and took out of a bag of instant noodles,
with the purpose of cooking myself breakfast.

Hot vapor rose from the pot.
I stood brushing my yellowish teeth beside the hearth,
monitoring the cooking process.

If your life feels like it is lacking the power that you want and the motivation that you need, sometimes all you have to do is shift your point of view.
By training your thoughts to concentrate on the bright side of things, you are more likely tohave the incentive to follow through on your goals. You are less likely to be held back bynegative ideas that might limit your performance.
Your life can be enhanced, and your happiness enriched, when you choose to change yourperspective. Don't leave your future to chance, or wait for things to get better mysteriously ontheir own. You must go in the direction of your hopes and aspirations. Begin to build yourconfidence, and work through problems rather than avoid them. Remember that power is notnecessarily control over situations, but the ability to deal with whatever comes your way.
Always believe that good things are possible, and remember that mistakes can be lessons thatlead to discoveries. Take your fear and transform it into trust; learn to rise above anxiety anddoubt. Turn your "worry hours" into "productive hours". Take the energy that you have wastedand direct it toward every worthwhile effort that you can be involved in. You will see beautifulthings happen when you allow yourself to experience the joys of life. You will find happinesswhen you addopt positive thinking into your daily routine and make it an important part ofyour world.

"We are reading the first line of the first chapter of a book
whose pages are infinite..."
I do not know who wrote those words,
but I have always liked them as a reminder
that the future can be anything we want to make it.
We can take the mysterious,
hazy future and carve out of it anything that we can imagine,
just as a sculptor carves a statue from a shapeless stone.
We are all in the position of the farmer.
If we plant a good seed,we reap a good harvest.
If our seed is poor and full of weeds, we reap a useless crop.
If we plant nothing at all,we harvest nothing at all.
I want the future to be better than the past.
I don't want it contaminated by the mistakes and errors with which history is filled.
We should all be concerned about the future
because that is where we will spend the remainder of our lives.
The past is gone and static.Nothing we can do will change it.
The future is before us and dynamic. Everything we do will affect it.
Each day brings with it new frontiers,
in our homes and in our business,if we only recognize them.
We are just at the beginning of the progress
in every field of human endeavor.

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

To see the golden sun and the azure sky, the outstretched ocean,
to walk upon the green earth, and to be lord of a thousand creatures,
to look down giddy precipices or over distant flowery vales,
to see the world spread out under one’s finger in a map,
to bring the stars near, to view the smallest insects in a microscope,
to read history, and witness the revolutions of empires and the succession of generations,
to hear of the glory of Sidon and Tyre, of Babylon and Susa, as of a faded pageant,
and to say all these were, and are now nothing,
to think that we exist in such a point of time, and in such a corner of space,
to be at once spectators and a part of the moving scene,
to watch the return of the seasons, of spring and autumn, to hear —
The stock dove’s notes amid the forest deep,
That drowsy forest rustles to the sighing gale.
— to traverse desert wilderness,to listen to the dungeon's gloom,
or sit in crowded theatres and see life itself mocked,
to feel heat and cold, pleasure and pain, right and wrong, truth and falsehood,
to study the works of art and refine the sense of beauty to agony,
to worship fame and to dream of immortality,
to have read Shakespeare and Beloit to the same species as Sir Isaac Newton;
to be and to do all this, and then in a moment
to be nothing,to have it all snatched from one
like a juggler’ ball or a phantasmagoria...

No young man believes he will ever die.
It was a saying of my brother’s, and a fine one.
There is a feeling of Eternity in youth, which makes us amend for everything.
To be young is to be as one of the Immortal Gods.
One half of time indeed is flown
—the other half remains in store for us with all its countless treasures,
for there is no line drawn, and we see no limit to our hopes and wishes.
We make the coming age our own —
The vast, the unbounded prospect lies before us.
Death, old age, are words without a meaning that pass by us
like the idea air which we regard not.
Others may have undergone,or may still be liable to them—we“bear a charmed life”,
which laughs to scorn all such sickly fancies.
As in setting out on delightful journey,we strain our eager gaze forward
—Bidding the lovely scenes at distance hail!
And see no end to the landscape, new objects presenting themselves as we advance.
So, in the commencement of life, we set no bounds to our inclinations,
nor to the unrestricted opportunities of gratifying them.
We have as yet found no obstacle,no disposition to flag;
and it seems that we can go on so forever.
We look round in a new world, full of life, and motion, and ceaseless progress,
and feel in ourselves all the vigor and spirit to keep pace with it,
and do not foresee from any present symptoms how we shall be left behind
in the natural course of things, decline into old age, and drop into the grave.
It is the simplicity, and as it were abstractedness of our feelings in youth,
that (so to speak) identifies us with nature,
and (our experience being slight and our passions strong)
deludes us into a belief of being immortal like it.

Imagine life as a game in which you are juggling some five balls in the air.
You name them work, family, health, friends and spirit
and you’re keeping all of these in the air.
You will soon understand that work is a rubber ball.
If you drop it, it will bounce back.
But the other four balls family, health, friends and spirit are made of glass.
If you drop one of these, they will be irrevocably scuffed, marked, nicked, damaged or even shattered.
They will never be the same.
You must understand that and strive for balance in your life. How?
Don’t undermine your worth by comparing yourself with others.
It is because we are different that each of us is special.
Don’t set your goals by what other people deem important.
Only you know what is best for you.
Don’t take for granted the things closest to your heart.
Cling to them as they would be your life, for without them, life is meaningless.
Don’t let your life slip through your fingers by living in the past or for the future.
By living your life one day at a time, you live ALL the days of your life.
Don’t give up when you still have something to give.
Nothing is really over until the moment you stop trying.
Don’t be afraid to admit that you are less than perfect.
It is this fragile thread that binds us to each together.
Don’t be afraid to encounter risks.
It is by taking chances that we learn how to be brave.
Don’t shut love out of your life by saying it’s impossible to find.
The quickest way to receive love is to give it;
the fastest way to lose love is to hold it too tightly;
and the best way to keep love is to give it wings.
Don’t run through life so fast that you forget not only where you’ve been,
but also where you are going.
Don’t forget, a person’s greatest emotional need is to feel appreciated.
Don’t be afraid to learn.
Knowledge is weightless,a treasure you can always carry easily.
Don’t use time or words carelessly.
Neither can be retrieved.
Life is not a race, but a journey to be savored each step of the way.
Yesterday is history, Tomorrow is a mystery and Today is a gift:
that’s why we call it “The Present”.

The most important thing to becoming rich for you is to have a mindset to want to become rich. The reason I saythat is this, is because I wanted to become rich when I played Monopoly, that was, I was nine years old. The greatest formula for wealth is found on that board game. When I was nine years old my poor dad, the schoolteacher says, “Ah put that game away. Study, study, study! You‘re wasting your time playing Monopoly.”
And my rich dad said the formula, “You must open your mind and see the formula right on Monopoly.” He said, “It‘s right in front of you.” And I went, “What‘s the formula?” And finally I learned the formula is, four green houses, red hotel, four green houses, red hotel. Today I‘m a rich man because all I ever did since the time I was 24 years old was buy four green houses, sell them all, buy a red hotel, four green houses, red hotel. It is not, that you have to go to school to become rich. Just play Monopoly; four green houses, red hotel. That‘s it.
You must look at how people before you have become rich. Do not talk to poor people. Poor people will tell you, “Oh it‘s too risky. Don‘t do that. Don‘t take risk. Save your money. Play it safe.” That is a poor person‘s mindset. You must have an open mindset, open. And if you have an open mindset you will learn from everything. If you have a closed mindset you will learn from nothing. So I think that is the most important thing.
The difference between money and wealth.
No, I don‘t have a salary. I only had a job four years in my life. I don‘t want a salary. The middle class and poor, what they want is high income. They think they want money. But they have no wealth because they have no assets. You must know the difference between money and wealth but they‘re not the same same. Money will never make you rich. This makes you rich. I have large companies. I have lots of stocks. I trade options. I have real estate, that‘s what makes me rich. So the money just comes in whether I work or not.
Bill Gates makes $500,000 a year. That‘s all. I make more than him. That‘s all he makes but he‘s worth 40 billion. I‘m trying to tell you there is a very big difference between income, money and wealth. So I have spent my life buying assets, businesses, stocks, real estate, that‘s what makes you rich, not a job. The reason the rich in America get richer is they pass this on to their kids. My poor dad always said, “High paying job, high paying job, high paying job.” And my rich dad said, “Assets, assets, assets.” That‘s the difference.

All over my garden I’ve planted nothing but roses, fragrant and—if looked at from a far—a blaze with color like sunset clouds, I’d be very happy if anyone of my visiting friends should desire to pick and take some for their homes. I trust that any friend of mine carrying the rose would vanish into the distance feeling that his emotions had been rekindled.
A close friend came for a visit the other day. I know her to be a lover of flowers and plants. And for that reason I told her at her departure that she should pick a bunch of roses to grace her boudoir. I promised that the scent of the roses would be wafted far, far away.
That girl friend of mine, tiptoeing into the garden in high spirits, sniffed here and smelt there, but in the end she didn’t pick a single rose. I said there were so many of them that she would pick as many as she’d like to; I told her that I was not a florist and didn’t make a living out of them. Saying so I raised the scissors for the sacrifice of the flowers, but she stopped me, crying no, no, no!
To cut such beautiful roses would hurt one, she said. With her hands clutching at my sleeves, she told me that by no means should they be cut. Roses are the smiling face of the earth, and who could be so iron-hearted as to destroy a smile so intoxicating?
My mind was thoroughly boggled: the ugly earth, the humble earth, the plain earth—it is for the sake of that smile that it wins the care and pity of people.

Are you dissatisfied with today’s success? It is the harvest from yesterday’s sowing. Do you dream of a golden morrow? You will reap what you are sowing today. We get out of life just what we put into it.
Nature takes on our moods: she laughs with those who laugh and weeps with those who weep. If we rejoice and are glad, the very birds sing more sweetly, the woods and streams murmur our song. But if we are sad and sorrowful, a sudden gloom falls upon Nature’s face; the sun shines, but not in our hearts; the birds sing, but not to us.
The future will be just what we make it. Our purpose will give it its character. One’s resolution is one’s prophecy. Leave all your discouraging pessimism behind. Do not prophesy evil, but good. Men of hope come to the front.

From the window of my room, I could see a tall cotton-rose hibiscus. In spring, when green foliage was half hidden by mist, the tree looked very enchanting dotted with red blossom. This inspiring neighbor of mine often set my mind working. I gradually regarded it as my best friend.
Nevertheless, when I opened the window one morning, to my amazement, the tree was almost bare beyond recognition as a result of the storm ravages the night before. Struck by the plight, I was seized with a sadness at the thought “all the blossom is doomed to fall”. I could not help sighing with emotion: the course of life never runs smooth, for there are so many ups and downs, twists and turns. The vicissitudes of my life saw my beloved friends parting one after another. Isn’t it similar to the tree shedding its flowers in the wind?
This event faded from my memory as time went by. One day after I came home from the countryside, I found the room stuffy and casually opened the window. Something outside caught my eye and dazzled me. It was a plum tree all scarlet with blossom set off beautifully by the sunset. The surprise discovery overwhelmed me with pleasure. I wondered why I had no idea of some unyielding life sprouting over the fallen petals when I was grieving for the hibiscus.
When the last withered petal dropped, all the joyful admiration for the hibiscus sank into oblivion as if nothing was left, until the landscape was again ablaze with the red plum blossom to remind people of life’s alternation and continuance. Can’t it be said that life is actually a symphony, a harmonious composition of loss and gain.
Standing by the window lost in thought for a long time, I realized that no scenery in the world remains unchanged. As long as you keep your heart basking in the sun, every dawn will present a fine prospect for you to unfold and the world will always be about new hopes.

Learning to play a musical instrument can change your brain, with a US review finding music training can lead to improved speech and foreign language skills.
Although it has been suggested in the past that listening to Mozart or other classical music could make you smarter, there has been little evidence to show that music boosts brain power.
But a data-driven review by Northwestern University has pulled together research that links musical training to learning that spills over into skills including language, speech, memory, attention and even vocal emotion.
Researcher Nina Kraus said the data strongly suggested that the neural connections made during musical training also enhanced the brain for other aspects of human communication.
“ The effect of music training suggests that, akin to physical exercise and its impact on body fitness, music is a resource that tones the brain for auditory fitness and thus requires society to re-examine the role of music in shaping individual development,”the researchers said in their study.
Kraus said learning musical sounds could enhance the brain’s ability to adapt and change and also enable the nervous system to provide a scaffolding of patterns that are important to learning.
The study, published in Nature Reviews Neuroscience, looked at the explosion of research in recent years focused on the effects of music training on the nervous system which could have strong implications for education.
The study found that playing an instrument primes the brain to choose what is relevant in a complex process that may involve reading or remembering a score, timing issues and coordination with other musicians.
“A musician’s brain selectively enhances information-bearing elements in sound,” Kraus said in a statement. “In a beautiful interrelationship between sensory and cognitive processes, the nervous system makes associations between complex sounds and what they mean.”

Whether you are in a career you hate or happily forging on with the dream job, you’ll have to put up with politics and personalities, so you might as well change careers and enjoy the things you do, right?
No matter how much you love the field you are in, some BS is going to come your way – some BS that will prevent you from doing passionate, productive work you were born to do. However, if you truly love what you do, weathering those storms will be far easier than if you are sitting in.
But, let’s look on the bright side: the wonderful emotional advantages age and experience that can help you navigate that new career with ease and efficiency.
1.You see the big picture.
Whereas at 25 you’d steam, fume and gnaw your teeth because your boss is now telling you “we should do X” – the very X you were trying to convince him to do months ago, because a coworker speaks over you in meetings and aggressively tries to take over your area of expertise…now you just don’t care. Or perhaps you care a bit, but you let it go.
Your boss gives you a great career opportunity, that thieving coworker is, after all, a friend and a future reference. These are people who will in the end consciously or unconsciously admire you more for staying mature in the face of their blatant IP theft. So, you let people have little things, and you focus on the grand things to come.
2.You are emotionally mature.
By now, people’s petty hangups, insecurities, and gossip don’t irritate you anymore. If you are not a negative person or don’t want to be a part of the gossip circle, you know how to elegantly rebuff requests to join in. Perhaps more importantly, you know that your career and life don’t depend on it.
You also know that most people are a bit insecure, and that their coping mechanisms are going to be all over the place. The professional world is one big kindergarten. You smile, stay nice, and go back to doing a great job.
3.You know how to say no.
When I was younger, I had a boss who worked so hard that her lips would turn blue from cold in the room (it was so late that the heating got turned off), and who would not eat for 7 or 8 hours because she ate two meals a day. Subconsciously, regardless of the fact that I was paid far less, and an hourly employee at that, she expected the same kind of “devotion” from me. And I was dumb enough to follow, which left me exhausted and with no life outside of work.
Nowadays, I say it when I need a break, even if it is, God forbid, twice a day. I am able to demand a work style that makes me most efficient, and won’t break me in the long run. I also know that I am likely not going to get fired over this. The worst that can happen: some tension and a few passive-aggressive jokes. Or getting fired. Which is better than being blurry eyed, inefficient, and, ultimately, unhappy at your job.
4.You know your worth.
The first months/year(s) in the new career are hard. You know you are smart and talented, but many won’t get it (it takes smart people to know smart people, and many people you’ll encounter are not that smart). That’s OK. You have your ego in check, and you march on, slowly introducing your ideas in a friendly manner, making alliances with the right people, and letting your ability naturally shine through. This versus the dissatisfaction of the yesteryear, when all that injustice felt personal, disheartening and insurmountable.
5. You know how to manage people.
It’s just how it is: people around you are not always going to be professional or mature. There’ll be those who yell. There’ll be those who want a constant companion, not a colleague. There’ll be those who respond well to an open conversation and removing tensions in a mature way, and there’ll be those who’d rather flex the boss muscle or constantly poke at you with borderline unprofessional comments. You in your 20s? Exasparated and frustrated. You now? You choose your battles – mentally file your nails during yelling, introduce boundaries to wannabe-best-friend, and even put people in their place as needed. Gently. It’s kindergarten, after all.
Now, I am not saying that any of the situations above are going to be easy. Some days it will all be harder than others, and some days you will, yet again, curse the fate that put you in your dream career later in life. But that’s all temporary – after all, you have also learned to breathe, exercise, confide in the right allies, and move forward with your chosen career.
It is, after all, “The War of Art”:
“The professional endures adversity…He reminds himself it’s better to be in the arena, getting stomped by the bull, then to be up in the stands, or out in the parking lot”.

"Always remember that your present situation is not your final destination. The best is yet to come." - Unknown
If your life isn't where you want it to be, change it. It's what successful people have done for thousands of years. You may currently be struggling and frustrated with your life but it's not going to stay like this forever, that is, unless you don't do anything to change it.
The best time of your life may still be ahead of you but it won't just magically show up, you have to create it. It's in your power to create whatever future you want for your life. Even if your best days are truly behind you, you can still have plenty of great days ahead of you if you decide to make it so.
Instead of letting circumstances control and defeat you, use them to push you into action so that you can change your present situation. Bad times aren't going to last forever but if you want more great times ahead of you instead of just good times, it's time to start doing things that will make that a reality… it's time to work toward your ideal destination.

In 1989 an 8.2 earthquake almost flattened America, killing over 30,000 people in less than four minutes. In the midst of utter devastation and chaos, a father left his wife safely at home and rushed to the school where his son was supposed to be, only to discover that the building was as flat as a pancake.
After the unforgettably initial shock, he remembered the promise he had made to his son: "No matter what, I’ll always be there for you!" And tears began to fill his eyes. As he looked at the pile of ruins that once was the school, it looked hopeless, but he kept remembering his commitment to his son.
He began to direct his attention towards where he walked his son to class at school each morning. Remembering his son s classroom would be in the back right corner of the building; he rushed there and started digging through the ruins.
As he was digging, other helpless parents arrived, clutching their hearts, saying: "My son!" "My daughter!" Other well meaning parents tried to pull him off what was left of the school, saying: "It s too late! They’re all dead! You can’t help! Go home! Come on, face reality, there s nothing you can do!"
To each parent he responded with one line: "Are you going to help me now?" And then he continued to dig for his son, stone by stone. The fire chief showed up and tried to pull him off the school s ruins saying, "Fires are breaking out, explosions are happening everywhere. You’re in danger. We’ll take care of it. Go home." To which this loving, caring American father asked, "Are you going to help me now?"
The police came and said, "You’re angry, anxious and it s over. You’re endangering others. Go home. We’ll handle it!" To which he replied, "Are you going to help me now?" No one helped.Courageously he went on alone because he needed to know for himself: "Is my boy alive or is he dead?" He dug for eight hours...12 hours...24 hours...36 hours...then, in the 38th hour, he pulled back a large stone and heard his son s voice. He screamed his son s name, "ARMAND!" He heard back, "Dad!?! It s me, Dad! I told the other kids not to worry. I told them that if you were alive, you d save me and when you saved me, they d be saved. You promised, No matter what happens, I’ll always be there for you! You did it, Dad!" "What s going on in there? How is it?" the father asked.
"There are 14 of us left out of 33, Dad. We’re scared, hungry, thirsty and thankful you re here. When the building collapsed, it made a triangle, and it saved us."
"Come out, boy!"
"No, Dad! Let the other kids out first, cause I know you ll get me! No matter what happens, I know you’ll always be there for me!"

The significant inscription found on an old key "If I rest, I rust" would be an excellent motto for those who are afflicted with the slightest taint of idleness. Even the most industrious might adopt it with advantage to serve as a reminder that, if one allows his faculties to rest, like the iron in the unused key, they will soon show signs of rust and, ultimately, cannot do the work required of them.
Those who would attain the heights reached and kept by great men must keep their faculties polished by constant use, so that they may unlock the doors of knowledge, the gate that guard the entrances to the professions, to science, art, literature, agriculture --- every department of human endeavor.
Industry keeps bright the key that opens the treasury of achievement. If Hugh Miller, after toiling all day in a quarry, had devoted his evenings to rest and recreation, he would never have become a famous geologist. The celebrated mathematician, Edmund Stone, would never have published a mathematical dictionary, never have found the key to science of mathematics, if he had given his spare moments to idleness. Had the little Scotch lad, Ferguson, allowed the busy brain to go to sleep while he tended sheep on the hillside instead of calculating the position of the stars by a string of beads, he would never have become a famous astronomer
Labor vanquishes all --- not inconstant, spasmodic, or ill-directed labor, but faithful, unremitting, daily effort toward a well-directed purpose. Just as truly as eternal vigilance is the price of liberty, so is eternal industry the price of noble and enduring success.
