If you are feeling that life just cannot be any worse for you, it can be challenging to think positive thoughts. When we are stressed, depressed, upset, or otherwise in a negative state of mind because we perceive that "bad things" keep happening to us, it is important to shift those negative thoughts to something positive. If we don't, we will only attract more "bad things."
It is often very hard to think positive when so many things are negative, but I can assure you that someone, somewhere is worse off than you. We can choose to think differently by beginning with the smallest of steps.
If you start with one small, positive thing and repeat it during the course of your day, you will begin to move into a more positive situation: positive thoughts, feelings, opportunities and people will start showing up in your life. With practice, you will find that over time, you will change your outlook and choose to be happy, irregardless of the events around you.
Here are a few examples for you to practice. Say them out loud and with feeling!
1. Begin and end each day with a "Thank you for this wonderful, glorious day!"
2. When you see the gas prices hiking, say "I am so glad that I am blessed to have a vehicle in which to get around."
3. When you are late for work, say "I am so happy and grateful for my job as I know that many don't have one."
4. If you are having health problems, be grateful for what does work: "I really do appreciate my eyes that see, my ears that hear, my mouth that tastes, my legs that walk, my arms that lift, my hands that write, my mind that thinks, my knees that bend and my tongue that talks." The possibilities here are endless: insert what does work for you and feel good about it!
5. Write down what you're grateful for each day. In moments when you're feeling really down, read what you wrote previously. This will help uplift your spirits. If you practice this regularly, you will find that your list will get longer and longer.
The key is to move yourself into a positive thought and keep it there long enough to make it a moment of blissful peace. The more you practice, the happier you'll be.

He met her at a party. She was so outstanding, many guys chasing after her, while he was sonormal, nobody paid attention to him.
At the end of the party, he invited her to have coffee with him, she was surprised but due tobeing polite, she promised. They sat in a nice coffee shop, he was too nervous to say anything,she felt uncomfortable, and she thought to herself, “Please, let me go home...”
Suddenly he asked the waiter, “Would you please give me some salt? I’d like to put it in mycoffee.” Everybody stared at him, so strange! His face turned red but still, he put the salt in hiscoffee and drank it. She asked him curiously, “Why you have this hobby?” He replied, “When Iwas a little boy, I lived near the sea, I liked playing in the sea, I could feel the taste of the sea,just like the taste of the salty coffee. Now every time I have the salty coffee, I always think ofmy childhood, think of my hometown, I miss my hometown so much, I miss my parents whoare still living there.” While saying that tears filled his eyes. She was deeply touched. That’s histrue feeling, from the bottom of his heart. A man who can tell out his homesickness, he mustbe a man who loves home, cares about home, has responsibility of home... Then she alsostarted to speak, spoke about her faraway hometown, her childhood, her family.
That was a really nice talk, also a beautiful beginning of their story. They continued to date. Shefound that actually he was a man who meets all her demands; he had tolerance, was kindhearted, warm, careful. He was such a good person but she almost missed him! Thanks to hissalty coffee! Then the story was just like every beautiful love story, the princess married to theprince, and then they were living the happy life... And, every time she made coffee for him, sheput some salt in the coffee, as she knew that’s the way he liked it.
After 40 years, he passed away, left her a letter which said, “My dearest, please forgive me,forgive my whole life’s lie. This was the only lie I said to you - the salty coffee. Remember thefirst time we dated? I was so nervous at that time, actually I wanted some sugar, but I saidsalt. It was hard for me to change so I just went ahead. I never thought that could be the startof our communication! I tried to tell you the truth many times in my life, but I was too afraidto do that, as I have promised not to lie to you for anything... Now I’m dying, I afraid ofnothing so I tell you the truth, I don’t like the salty coffee, what a strange bad taste... But Ihave had the salty coffee for my whole life! Since I knew you, I never feel sorry for anything Ido for you. Having you with me is my biggest happiness for my whole life. If I can live for thesecond time, still want to know you and have you for my whole life, even though I have to drinkthe salty coffee again.”
Her tears made the letter totally wet. Someday, someone asked her, “What’s the taste of saltycoffee?” She replied, “It’s sweet.”
Pass this to everyone because love is not to forget but to forgive, not to see but understand,not to hear but to listen, not to let go but HOLD ON!!!

That was a late October evening, the very first day that I ever saw you. Love at first site youmay say. What a feelings. I knew right then that I will be spending rest of my life with you. I stillremember the very first smile in your face, looking down to me from your balcony. WOW, howcould I forget that?
That was the year 2003, my very first year in Dhaka University. Life was wonderful, lots of funat the university and home, in the old town of Dhaka. Just came out of all male college. Got thefreedom of my life. No restriction from home, I can come home whenever I like or do whateverI want to do. Just like a bird, no limit.
To be honest, until that ate October day, I did not a have any female friends. So you can forgetabout a girlfriend. I was very shy and always nervous when surrounded women. But thatafternoon, a RED piece of thin cloth (Orna) just changed all that.
I was walking down the street, just enjoying a wonderful late afternoon. All of a sudden, a pieceof cloth just dropped on me, covering my whole upper body. I got surprised and uncovermyself. Look around me and then looked up. There you were standing on your first floorbalcony and laughing at me. That was the first time I have ever seen someone that pretty.
I am sorry — you said with big smile in your face.
My “orna” just dropped out, would you mind to hold on to it I am coming down.
No word out of my mouth. Is this really happening to me. Did she said that she is comingdown.
I look around nervously. Should I just wait or should I leave. Where do I go. I see a little stairgoing from the street to the down stair of that house. I looked in by extending my head.Should I go in?
Before I decide I see you standing by the door. Just 5 feet away, with a great smile on yourface.
Sorry for that, could I have my “Orna” please — you said.
Sure, Sure, here it is — I replied with a very nervous voice.
I step up to her and hand over her “Orna”.
Thanks, do you live around here? You asked.
Yes — I said.
Thanks again. I will see you again.
I nod my head with agreement.
That was my first conversation with you and for sure was not the last. My first love — I loveyou.

A long time before I was born, my Grandma and Grandpa moved into the house on Beechwood Avenue. They had a young family of 4 little girls. The little girls slept in the attic in a big feather bed. It was cold there on winter night. Grandma put hot bricks under the covers at the foot of the bed to keep the little girls warm.
During the Great Depre5sion, work was hard to find, so Grandpa did
whatever jobs he could. He dug ditches during the week and on weekend he and Grandma dug a garden lo grow some of their own food.
The house on Beechwood Avenue had a big front yard with shade trees and fruit trees. In the middle of the yard was a water pump where the four little girls pumped water for cooking, cleaning and watering the garden. On one side of the yard, Grandma and Grandpa planted tomatoes, beans, squash, cucumbers, peppers and strawberries to feed their growing family. They planted roses, lilacs and irises on the other side of the yard, around the statue of the Blessed Mother.
Everybody worked to keep the garden growing. All summer long, the family ate food from the garden and enjoyed the beautiful flowers. Grandma put up strawberry jam,tomatoes, beans, peppers, pears and peaches in canning jam. They were good to eat through the long winter.
The family grew up, and before too many years had passed, the grandchildren came to visit. Grandma and Grandpa still planted their garden every spring. Everyone still enjoyed the good food from the garden and always took some home.
Grandchildren grow up, and grandparents grow older. It became harder for Grandma and Grandpa to keep up the garden. So they made it a little smaller. There was still plenty to eat from the garden and lovely flowers to enjoy.
Then one summer when Grandpa was eighty-nine years old, all he could do was watch from his lawn chair as the vegetables grew and the roses bloomed. Summer slowly faded, and Grandpa died before it was time to bring in the harvest.
It was a lonely winter for Grandma She sat near the window, looking out at the yard and wondering if she could plant the garden in the spring. It would be hard to care for it by herself. When spring came, she planted only a little garden.
One sunny day in the early summer, Grandma heard a commotion in the front yard and looked out the window to see a frightening sight a gigantic swarm of bees filled the air between two tall trees. There was thousands of bees in the air, so many that the swarm reached the tree-lops! The buzzing sound was tremendous. Grandma watched as the bees made their way into a hole up in one of the trees. Before long, every one of those bees had disappeared into its new home.
Grandma wondered what in the world she could do. Should she hire someone to get rid of bees? That would cost more than she could afford. She decided to wait and think it over.
During the next few days, the bees were busy making. their own business. Grandma could always see a few bees buzzing in and out around the opening high in the tree. Before long, she decided the bees won't bother anyone, so she went about her business and didn't give them any other thought.
That summer, Grandma's little garden grew and grew. The neighbors would stop to admire the huge crop of vegetables and puzzle over their own gardens weren't doing well. No matter, because Grandma had enough give some away. Of course, everyone who came to visit was treated to a meal of good things from the garden.
One day, Grandma's brother Frank visited from Arizona. As Grandma made Frank a delicious lunch of squash pan cakes and home made apple sauce, she told him the story about the swarm of bees.
Frank said, "in Arizona, the farmers often hired beekeepers to set up beehives near their fields. The bees pollinated the crops and helped them to grow."
That was when Grandma realized at her bees had helped with her garden all summer.
"So that's why my little garden had such a big crop! " she exclaimed. From that time on, Grandma always believed that since Grandpa couldn't be there to help her that summer, he had sent the bees to take his place and make Grandma's little garden grow and grow...

If you want to understand adversity, take two identical acorns from the same oak tree and plant them in two different locations. Plant the first in the middle of a dense forest, and the other on a hill by itself.
Here's what will happen. The oak standing on a hillside is exposed to every storm and gale. As a result its roots plunge deep into the earth and spread in every direction, even wrapping themselves around giant boulders. At times it may seem the tree isn't growing fast enough—but the growth is happening underground. It's as if the roots know they must ported the tree from the threatening elements.
What about the acorn planted in the forest? It becomes a weak, frail sapling. And since it is protected by its neighbors, the little oak doesn't sense the need to spread its roots for support.
Don't be afraid of adversity! Welcome it! That's your surefire route to ultimate success.

Years ago in Scotland, the Clark family had a dream. Clark and his wife worked and saved, making plans for their nine children and themselves to travel to the United States. It had taken years, but they had finally saved enough money and had gotten passports and reservations for the whole family on a new liner to the United States.
The entire family was filled with anticipation and excitement about life in America. However, seven days before their departure, the youngest son was bitten by a dog. The doctor sewed up the boy but hung a yellow sheet on the Clarks' front door. Because of the possibility of rabies, they were being quarantined for fourteen days.
The family's dreams were dashed. They would not be able to make the trip to America as they had planned. The father, filled with disappointment and anger, stomped to the dock to watch the ship leave—without the Clark family. The father shed tears of disappointment and cursed both his son and God for their misfortune.
Five days later, the tragic news spread throughout Scotland—the mighty Titanic had sunk. The unsinkable ship had sunk, taking hundreds of lives with it. The Clark family was to have been on that ship, but because the son had been bitten by a dog, they were left behind in Scotland.
When Mr. Clark heard the news, he hugged his son and thanked him for saving the family. He thanked God for saving their lives and turning what he felt was a tragedy into a blessing.
Although we may not always understand, all things happen for a reason.

No young man believes he will ever die.
It was a saying of my brother’s, and a fine one.
There is a feeling of Eternity in youth,which makes us amend for everything.
To be young is to be as one of the Immortal Gods.
One half of time indeed is flown
—the other half remains in store for us with all its countless treasures,
for there is no line drawn, and we see no limit to our hopes and wishes.
We make the coming age our own —
The vast, the unbounded prospect lies before us.
Death, old age, are words without a meaning that pass by us
like the idea air which we regard not.
Others may have undergone,or may still be liable to them—we“bear a charmed life”,
which laughs to scorn all such sickly fancies.
As in setting out on delightful journey,we strain our eager gaze forward
—Bidding the lovely scenes at distance hail!
And see no end to the landscape, new objects presenting themselves as we advance.
So, in the commencement of life, we set no bounds to our inclinations,
nor to the unrestricted opportunities of gratifying them.
We have as yet found no obstacle,no disposition to flag;
and it seems that we can go on so forever.
We look round in a new world,full of life, and motion, and ceaseless progress,
and feel in ourselves all the vigor and spirit to keep pace with it,
and do not foresee from any present symptoms how we shall be left behind
in the natural course of things, decline into old age, and drop into the grave.
It is the simplicity, and as it were abstractedness of our feelings in youth,
that (so to speak) identifies us with nature,
and (our experience being slight and our passions strong)
deludes us into a belief of being immortal like it.

Studies serve for delight, for ornament, and for ability.
Their chief use for delight, is in privateness and retiring;
for ornament, is in discourse;
and for ability, is in the judgement and disposition of business.
For expert men can execute, and perhaps judge of particulars, one by one;
but the general counsels, and the plots and marshalling of affairs,
come best from those that are learned.
To spend too much time in studies is sloth;
to use them too much for ornament,is affectation;
to make judgement wholly by their rules, is the humour of a scholar.
They perfect nature, and are perfected by experience:
for natural abilities are like natural plants,that need pruning by study;
and studies themselves do give forth directions too much at large,
except they be bounded in by experience.
Crafty men contemn studies, simple men admire them, and wise men use them;
for they teach not their own use;
but that is a wisdom without them, and above them, won by observation.
Read not to contradict and confute;
nor to believe and take for granted; nor to find talk and discourse;
but to weigh and consider.
Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed,and some few to be chewed and digested;
that is, some books are to be read only in parts;
others to be read, but not curiously;
and some few to be read wholly,and with diligence and attention.
Some books also may be read by deputy, and extracts made of them by others;
but that would be only in the less important arguments, and the meaner sort of books;
else distilled books are, like common distilled waters, flashy things.
Reading makes a full man; conference a ready man; and writing an exact man.
And therefore,if a man write little,he had need have a great memory;
if he confer little, he had need have a present wit;
and if he read little, he had need have much cunning, to seem to know that he does not.
Histories make men wise; poets witty; the mathematics subtle;
natural philosophy deep; moral grave;
logic and rhetoric able to contend.

So far as I know, Miss Hannah Arendt was
the first person to define the essential difference
between work and labor. To be happy, a man must feel,
firstly, free and, secondly, important. He cannot
be really happy if he is compelled by society to do
what he does not enjoy doing, or if what he enjoys doing
is ignored by society as of no value or importance.
In a society where slavery in the strict sense
has been abolished, the sign that what a man does
is of social value is that he is paid money to do it,
but a laborer today can rightly be called a wage slave.
A man is a laborer if the job society offers him is
of no interest to himself but he is compelled to
take it by the necessity of earning a living
and supporting his family.The antithesis to labor is play.
When we play a game, we enjoy what we are doing,
otherwise we should not play it, but it is
a purely private activity; society could not care less
whether we play it or not.Between labor and play stands work.
A man is a worker if he is personally interested in the job
which society pays him to do; what from the point of view of society
is necessary labor is from his own point of view voluntary play.
Whether a job is to be classified as labor or work depends,
not on the job itself, but on the tastes of the individual
who undertakes it. The difference does not, for example,
coincide with the difference between a manual and mental job;
a gardener or a cobbler may be a worker, a bank clerk a laborer.
Which a man is can be seen from his attitude toward leisure.
To a worker, leisure means simply the hours he needs
to relax and rest in order to work efficiently.
He is therefore more likely to take too little leisure
than too much; workers die of coronaries and forget
their wives’ birthdays. To the laborer, on the other hand,
leisure means freedom from compulsion, so that it is natural
for him to imagine that the fewer hours he has to spend laboring,
and the more hours he is free to play, the better.

One of the major pleasures in life is appetite,
and one of our major duties should be to preserve it.
Appetite is the keenness of living;
it is one of the senses that tells you that
you are still curious to exist,
that you still have an edge on your longings
and want to bite into the world
and taste its multitudinous flavours and juices.
By appetite, of course,I don’t mean just the lust for food,
but any condition of unsatisfied desire,
any burning in the blood that proves you want more than you’ve got,
and that you haven’t yet used up your life.
Wilde said he felt sorry for those
who never got their heart’s desire,
but sorrier still for those who did.
Appetite, to me, is that state of wanting,
which keeps one’s expectations alive.
In wanting a peach, or a whisky,
or a particular texture or sound,
or to be with a particular friend.
For in this condition, of course,
I know that the object of desire is always at its most flawlessly perfect.
Which is why I would carry the preservation of appetite
to the extent of deliberate fasting,
simply because I think that appetite is too good to lose,
too precious to be bludgeoned into insensibility
by satiation and over-doing it.
Fasting is an act of homage to the majesty of appetite.
So I think we should arrange to give up our pleasures regularly
— our food, our friends, our lovers —
in order to preserve their intensity,
and the moment of coming back to them.
For this is the moment that
renews and refreshes both oneself and the thing one loves.
Sailors and travellers enjoyed this once,
and so did hunters, I suppose.
Part of the weariness of modern life may be that
we live too much on top of each other,
and are entertained and fed too regularly.
Too much of anything —
too much music, entertainment, happy snacks,
or time spent with one’s friends —
creates a kind of impotence of living
by which one can no longer hear,
or taste, or see, or love, or remember.
Life is short and precious,
and appetite is one of its guardians,
and loss of appetite is a sort of death.
So if we are to enjoy this short life
we should respect the divinity of appetite,
and keep it eager and not too much blunted.

Have you ever been around someone who immediately put you at ease? Perhaps you may be one of those people who others feel safe around.
What is the common thread in people who emanate warmth? Some may think it is related to personality or physical appearance. But this does little to explain why bright beacons of light can be found anywhere. Essence has nothing to do with our exterior.
I like to believe the common thread is a universal trait we are all able to tap into. When we see the truth of who we are and wholeheartedly love every part of that truth, we automatically shine. When we embrace our essence and live in congruence with who we are, we radiate peace.
Every day we can choose to wake up and see the gift of getting to be who we are. When we decide to live from this way of "being," it becomes easy to see this same light and gift in everyone — even those who may not yet see it in themselves.
The benefits of self-love are many. What I know to be true without a doubt in my heart, is that we are all capable of giving this gift to ourselves.
These words help me remember why embracing my essence is always the best thing to do. Perhaps this may resonate with where you are.
When you love who you are,
you become a conduit of light.
Just drop into your heart space,
and live life from this view.
For all of this doing
is not who you are.
Listen to your heart’s soft whisper,
this voice will show you the way.
Live life from your essence
is what she will say.
See the light in yourself,
and your world will be bright.
There is no need to worry,
you are exactly as you should be;
你正是自己本来的模样;
remember to love who you are,
and love you will see.

Your vacation doesn’t have to be dead time when it comes to self-improvement.
You can boost your skills while relaxing and de-stressing.
In other words, your vacation can be a great time to improve your emotional intelligence—and still thoroughly remain in vacation mode.
Since that’s one of the most important job skills on the market right now, it’s worth taking a page or two from the most emotionally intelligent vacationers’ play books.
1. THEY USE THE TIME TO SELF-REFLECT
As the pace of things slackens, ask yourself:
· What kind of people irritate me?
·What kind of people am I drawn to?
· Who do these people remind me of?
Being in a laid back, relaxed state is an excellent time to do some self-reflection.
So sure, have a cocktail or dive into a book, but carve out some time just to be alone with your thoughts.
2. THEY LOOK FOR WAYS TO EMPATHIZE
Most people do this in their own heads anyway when they’re traveling overseas or someplace unfamiliar.
Notice people and their facial expressions, their posture, dress, and manner of walking—these are all great ways to gather clues about what’s going on with them.
In fact, you can assume this mind-set even when you’re going to a movie, out to eat, or to a live performance.
3. THEY PRACTICE POLITE ASSERTIVENESS
Many people struggle with asking for what they want.
Emotionally intelligent people realize that the worst that can happen is getting a no, in which case they’re no worse off than before asking for something they want.
You might think of the boardroom as the real place to be more assertive, but vacation is actually just as good a time to stretch your “asking muscles.”
When you check into your accommodation, try asking for an upgrade. If there’s a problem with your meal, tell the server.
Just be polite.
Because you often won’t see the people you’re dealing with again, it may be easier to ask for what you want.
4. THEY RECONSIDER THEIR GOALS
Vacations are a great time to revisit past goals or even set new ones.
When you’re away from your everyday routine, you’re better positioned to take a look at where you are in life and contemplate where you’d like to be.
Those who get high scores for emotional intelligence are usually pretty good at getting away from their daily habits now and then in order to refocus and take an inventory of their lives.
5. THEY IMPROVE THEIR RESILIENCE HABITS
While you might like to tell yourself that next month you’ll finally start meditating daily or picking up a journaling routine, life often gets in the way.
Emotionally intelligent people aren’t immune to this, but they’re good at using vacation time to retool those resilience strategies.
Vacations give us a chance to return to what we know we should be doing for ourselves but don’t often make time for.

Through the cold winter wasteland a man trudged, leaning into the harsh wind which spitefully tried to force him back. He was covered from head to toe in layers of thick clothing, layers of protection against the harsh environment. On he fought, searching, searching. He was working so hard. This must be the way.
In the distance he saw what looked like steam rising out of the ground. It rose a few feet and then was quickly whipped away by the biting wind. He altered his course and turned towards the steam, gaining some blessed relief as he turned his chapped face out of the gale.
As he got closer, he thought he could make out voices. Their tone was unfamiliar to him - musical, relaxed and warm - their melody enticed him closer. Finally he got close enough to peer through the mist.
There before him was a remarkable sight. In the midst of the frozen wasteland, cut into the ground was a large pool. Several people were in the pool, they seemed to be floating easily without any effort. As they saw him approach, a woman called out to him.
"Come in here. It is lovely and warm. You can just lie back and relax," said the woman.
"I can't. There are no steps." The man replied.
"Just jump in. It really is lovely in here. Come on. Theoure's plenty of room for another." Another of the floaters joined in the persuasion.
"But what if I don't like it, how will I get out? The sides are too high to reach up to."
"Believe me, you won't want to get out. Come on. It is so good in here."
But he decided not to jump in. And that was a wise decision.
There're many things and people in life like this pool. They promise you life can be easy.
But in fact, they are traps that you can't come back from.
Life is hard. Stay wise. And fight.
