Want to boost your afternoon productivity? Then take a caffeine nap! According to a study by Jim Maas, PhD, professor of psychology at Cornell University, combining coffee and napping time can have a big improvement in one’s personal productivity. Coffee enters your bloodstream approximately 20 minutes after you have consumed it. The minute figure is exactly the same as the length of your nap, so these two play well together. In order to implement this technique, do this:
Drink a cup of coffee
Take a 20-minute nap right afterward
Wake-up refreshed
If you are not a coffee drinker, that’s fine too: even with a 20-minute nap alone, you can feel super-fresh and productive as well.

How often have you had a work day when, as mid-afternoon races toward late-afternoon, you realize that you haven't really gotten anything done?
Painfully often, if you're like many of the professionals we talked to for a recent study on everyday work life through Harvard Business School.
Not only do unproductive days like this detract from the success of your projects, your team and your organization; they can endanger your own well-being.
We discovered that nothing makes people feel happier and more engaged at work than making meaningful progress on something they care about. We call that the progress principle. But this progress principle has a serious downside: Nothing makes people feel worse than being stalled in their work and this negative effect is much stronger.
Most often, the cause of an unproductive day is fragmentation trying to juggle many competing, and usually unexpected, demands on your time. It's what happens when you've worked like crazy all day, and still you have the sense that you haven't been productive. Sound familiar?
Work-life management experts Tony Schwartz, David Allen, and others have useful techniques for setting up routines to get more done. But how can you save a day where you simply haven't been able to get to the work that matters most?
1. Carve out a time-oasis. (20 minutes) If possible, move something off your schedule for the remainder of the day, protecting just 20 minutes to focus uninterrupted on that meaningful project. More time is better if you can manage it, but 20 minutes can still make a difference.
#p#副标题#e#If you have to, leave a non-essential meeting 20 minutes early, or stay at the office 20 minutes later. (You would use tactics like this if you had an urgent business call, right? Well, getting to your most important work is an urgent business issue.) Turn off your email and phone. Find an unoccupied conference room or cubicle where no one can find you.
2. Note your progress for the day. (Two minutes) Use a work diary to keep track of the progress you made that day.
It's natural to focus on what you didn't get done and what tasks remain; but, to get the boost of happiness and engagement, you should spend a minute taking stock of what you did accomplish. Even if you simply outlined next steps on that creative project, make note. And, if you weren't able to carve out that 20-minute time-oasis, then make note of any achievement you had during the day, however small. It may not have been work you planned, and it may have been solving someone else's problem, but if you got anywhere on anything useful, that really is meaningful progress, so write it down.
Allow yourself to savor the sense of accomplishment, and recognize that you made a difference.
3. Set up for progress tomorrow. (Three minutes) Use a trick that Ernest Hemingway and other writers have relied on: Leave off in the middle. When you have to stop work for the day on your most important project, end in mid-paragraph, mid-sentence, mid-routine, whatever as long as you have a pretty good sense of how you will finish that paragraph. That way, you'll be able to just slide back into the task the next day even if all you get tomorrow is your 20-minute oasis.

The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. The technique uses a timer to break down work into intervals traditionally 25 minutes in length, separated by short breaks.
These intervals are known as "pomodori", the plural of the Italian word pomodoro for "tomato". The method is based on the idea that frequent breaks can improve mental agility.
a.非得马上做不可的话,停止这个番茄钟并宣告它作废(哪怕还剩5分钟就结束了),去完成这件事情,之后再重新开始同一个番茄钟;

Whether you telecommute, are a freelancer or mompreneur, working from home can be isolating and lonely, not to mention challenging. From constant interruptions all day long to not leaving the house for days at a time, working from the comfort of home can start to take its toll.
Having worked at home for the last nine years, I’ve learned to love the freedom and flexibility of being in my own space, but it’s a constant struggle to keep that joy from turning into madness and to keep your productivity high.
Here are seven ways to work from home, stay sane and be highly productive:
Depending on your situation, you may have kids at home, a partner who works from home or other people that impact your work at home serenity. The key is to be clear with everyone about when you are working and what they can expect. This may mean meeting with your spouse to let them know if they have a day off, that doesn’t mean you can play hooky or teaching your children that when you are working you are not available. Most of all, be realistic. Part of the joy of working from home is being able to do things you couldn’t if you worked in an office.

If a 20-minute nap, a cup of joe, and more shuteye at night were in a cage match, who wouldwin for reducing that classic afternoon "dip"? The answer is: (in order of effectiveness)
1. Nap
2. Caffeine
3. Then more nighttime sleep
A new study just released proves the power of a nap over a jolt of caffeine and even moresleep at night. It's actually the first such study to look at all three methods for combating theafternoon lull that's commonly experienced-and which is a very normal physiologicalresponse to the body cycling through its natural rhythms during the day.
Just because you feel sleepy at some point in the afternoon doesn't actually mean you're sleepdeprived. About eight hours after you wake up, the body's temperature dips a little, triggeringthat oh-so-annoying drowsiness after lunch and smack dab in the middle of your attempts tofocus and get more done in the late afternoon.
Why am I not surprised the nap wins out? For many reasons:
Naps refresh you at a cellular level that-sorry, Soda-caffeine just can't do.
It's easier to over-sleep than you think. Biologically, the body doesn't necessarily need thatextra sleep if you force yourself to sleep more at night. (And getting sufficient sleep doesn'tmean your body won't go through the dip regardless; it's a natural, physiological phenomenontied more to your circadian rhythm than to your previous night's sleep and potential sleepdebt.)
I've long been an advocate for napping. The best kind? A 20-minute snooze within a 30minute time period (10 extra minutes to get comfortable and into sleep mode). Or try theNap-a-latte, which is the dynamic duo.
But here's a big caveat: most people would probably choose caffeine over a nap, and ditch thenap entirely. Downing caffeine can be easier, quicker, and socially more acceptable in manyways. Finding a place to nap in the middle of the workday can be a challenge. And studieshave also shown that when deciding between a nap and an "attractive wakeful activity," theychoose the activity.
Let's face it, coffeehouses have multiple buzzes going on. People. Internet. Connectivity. Socialinteraction. Exchanges of ideas. And tasty treats beyond the joes and javas. Naps tend to besolitary and, dare I say, not as sexy.
But for what it's worth, hail to the nap.

I’m sorry, the line’s bad. Could you repeat what you just said?”(对不起,线路不好,您可以重复一下刚刚说的话吗?) I’m sorry, I can’t hear you very well. Can I call you later?”
Woman: Hello, Mr. Smith’s Office. Can I help you?
I: Hello, this is Qilong calling from China. Can I speak to Mr. Smith, please?
Woman: Mr. Smith is not in the office at the moment. Would you leave a message?
I: I prefer to call later. Would you recommend a right time for me to call again?
Woman: Mr. Smith has just been out for lunch. Try half an hour later.
I: Thank you very much. I’ll try half an hour later.
Tom—
Woman: Hello, Mr. Smith’s Office. Can I help you?
Tom:( 没 想 到 接 电 话 的 不 是 Mr. Smith 本 人, 一 时 有 点 乱 )Hello...Can I speak to Mr. Smith, please?Woman: Mr. Smith is not in the office at the moment. Would you leave a message?
Tom:(没想到 Mr. Smith 不在,心想我这可是从中国打的国际长途啊,有点失望)No, thank you. I will call later. Bye!
Woman: Bye!

Whether it is Mozart or Miley, your choice of music could determine whether you will perform well at your job. A new study suggests that listening to music in the office improves the speed and accuracy of tasks such as data entry, proof reading and problem solving. In an office-based experiment, 88 per cent of participants were found to produce their most accurate work when listening to music.
The study also found that 81 per cent completed their fastest work when music was played. And it matters what type of music you listen to. For instance, if you’re doing your tax returns, then classical music is the most effective as it improves maths skills.
Listening to Jessie J or Justin Bieber could also improve your speed, with 58 per cent of participants completing data entry tasks faster while listening to pop songs. During proof-reading, dance music, such as David Guetta, had the biggest positive impact with participants increasing their speed by 20 per cent compared to tests undertaken with no music at all. Dance music also had a positive effect on spell-checking with a 75 per cent pass rate compared to 68 per cent when no music was played at all.
The research, undertaken by Brighton-based Mindlab International, suggests that silent offices may be the least productive. ‘The Music Works experiment revealed a positive correlation between music and productivity – overall it showed that when listening to music, nine out of 10 people performed better,’ said Dr David Lewis, chairman of Mindlab International.
Music is an incredibly powerful management tool in increasing the efficiency of a workforce. It can exert a highly beneficial influence over employee morale and motivation, helping enhance output and even boosting a company’s bottom line. The research also showed that when people sat in silence, they made the most mistakes while solving equations and spell-checking.
Ambient music worked best for accurate data entry tasks, with participants scoring a high pass rate of 92 per cent. ‘The increase in levels of productivity when music is playing is striking,’ said Paul Clements, Director of Public Performance Sales, PRS for Music. ‘This project provides a refreshing reminder of the multiple benefits to be gained from listening to music at work.’
Whether you favor Beethoven or Slayer, there is one thing I think we can all agree on: music makes life better. But here is the proof as science would have it, and it’s not just in the ways we think.
1. Listening To Music Reduces Stress
A lot of us intuitively turn to relaxing music when we are feeling stressed or tired. Perhaps unsurprisingly, we’re not just imagining things. Significant research backs it up. In particular, slow, quiet classical music is suggested to have the most soothing effect.
So if you have a hard time dealing with stress, compiling a playlist of some fitting classical songs could be a good idea. Or try listening to a relaxing, classical-style movie soundtrack.
2. Listening To Music Improves Endurance
Do you work out? Have you always felt like you perform better when you listen to music? Odd as it might seem, there has actually been a lot of research done on this subject. And sure enough, one study shows that music can increase endurance by 15%.
One theory is that the continuity of a classical piece helps you focus, which in turn allows you to persevere longer. However, another study suggests that it’s not the type of music, but rather the speed of the music—the beats per minute (bpm)—that matter. According to the study, the optimal speed would be 125–140 bpm.
3. It Can Make You Healthier
It might seem too good to be true, but some research suggests that there are measurable health benefits from simply listening to music. Listening to music can also release dopamine, often dubbed “the pleasure chemical”. You could perhaps substitute the pleasure achieved through eating your comfort foods by indulging in your favorite music, with none of the negative health repercussions.
4. Singing With A Group Of People Makes You Happier
Ever thought people that sing in a choir look a bit…too happy? Well, as it turns out, it’s not just your imagination. Science actually explains what makes them so happy. And the best part of it is, even less-than-great singers experienced the same positive effects.
What does this mean for you? Hopefully, that the next time you get the chance to have a sing-along with someone else, you take it, instead of worrying about how you will be received. It’s very likely to cheer you up! One of the studies listed also suggest that singing together increases bonding. And don’t worry, if you feel like you’re just too shy, you can stick to singing in the shower. But just make sure you do it a bit more often.
5. Learning To Play An Instrument As A Kid Makes You More Successful Later
Research shows a noticeable correlation between learning to play an instrument as a child, and becoming successful later in life. So if you were always upset with your parents for forcing you to play the violin—or like me, the piano—take a minute to be grateful. I just thanked my father. One of my biggest regrets these days is that I never actually tried to learn to play the piano properly.
6. It Improves Your Memory
The interesting part about the research is that it shows music helps your brain develop in multiple areas, one of the most significant being your memory. So if you’re troubled by a bad memory, learning to play an instrument is something you should consider.

Use dashes:
“…a dash, which is simply a short burst of focused activity during which you force yourself to do nothing but work on the procrastinated item for a very short period of time—perhaps as little as just one minute.”
A big part of procrastination is dread. The task seems terrible and overwhelming. And that’s the first issue that needs attacking: those feelings.
By breaking the problem down into smaller chunks — even comically small ones that require only 1 minute of activity — and doing just that one little thing, you prove to yourself the task isn’t insurmountable.
The most motivating thing in the world is progress. Any trivial progress can motivateand boost positive emotions that will help build a productive momentum.
So this sounds good in theory but you’re probably thinking: what’s that first step and won’t that be horribly, horribly painful? For any procrastinated task, first thing is to take one minute and just write down the steps you need to do to finish the task.
This should be enough to kill negative emotions, build some momentum and get you going.

Pretend you are in middle school: Pack your lunch, set out your clothes, organize your to-do list and email, put the keys, bus pass, and your purse in one place. When the alarm sounds you will be more likely to pop out of bed, shower, get dressed, and jump on the productivity train stress free。

According to “Psychology Today”, the average person will spend 90,000 hours at work during their lifetime. That’s a lot of meeting for meetings to schedule your next meeting. I feel your pain too.
The truth is, we will spend A LOT of time at work. And unfortunately, not all companies have the culture or progressive mindset to create work-life balance within the workplace. According to the Quality of Working Life Report, 25% of employees say work is their main source of stress and 40% say their job is “very or extremely stressful.”
But the key here is to not wait for your company to create balance in your work life. Instead, you have the opportunity to take charge!
Because we all know stress + unhappiness + workaholic tendencies = low performer.
Don’t let this happen to you! Here are 10 signs you are a workaholic but not a high performer.
When you walk into work every morning, do you go in with a game plan and build your day around the most important tasks, or do you let others dictate how your day will go? If it’s the latter, then you might be a workaholic. High performing people are the drivers of their schedule, workaholics sit shotgun.
Tony Robbins was once famously quoted asking the question, “How am I going to live today in order to create the tomorrow I am committed to?”
Perhaps you should ask yourself this question too.
