Jake was always sick. He repeatedly got infections—mostly colds or the flu—from patients. He considered himself lucky to be alive, considering what he’d read about deadly bacteria and viruses that were developing immunity to all the latest drugs. A hospital is a dangerous place. He wanted out of the hospital, but he had nowhere to go. He was no spring chicken. The pay, benefits, and hours were good. His schedule regularly included three- or four-day weekends.
But, he was just going through the same motions, day after day. He was at the top of the ladder for an orderly. There were no other jobs that he could qualify for, unless he wanted to go to school for several years to become a tech or a registered nurse. But those jobs would mean working in a hospital. He wanted out.
He wished he had stayed with his old job as an assistant pro at Brookside Golf Course. The pay was low and the benefits were few, but the game of golf was his passion. He loved teaching the game to others. He was a happy man when he worked at the golf course—the freshly mowed green grass, the blue sky, the white clouds. Not a sick person in sight—only healthy people, enjoying themselves. Why had he quit that job, he wondered over and over. Ten years ago, he must have had a good reason, but he sure couldn’t remember what it was now. His life was now a constant regret about the poorest decision he had ever made.

During the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 B.C.), Duke Xian of the State of Jin Killed the crown prince Sheng because he had heard slanders about Sheng and believed them. He also sent his men to arrest Chong Er, Shen Sheng and believed them. He also sent his men to arrest Chonh Er, Shen Sheng's brother. Hearing the news, Chong Er escaped from the state of Jin, remaining a fugitive for more than ten years.
After innumerable hardships, Chong Er arrived at the State of Chu at last. King Cheng of the State of Chu treated him with high respect as he would have treated the ruler of a state, believing that he would have a vright fuure.
One day, King Cheng of the State of Chu gave a banquet in honoudr of Chong Er. Suddenly, amid the harmonious atmosphere of drinking and talking, King Cheng of the State of Chu asked Chong Er. "How will you repay me when you return to the State of Jin and become its ruler one day?" After thinking for a moment, Chong Er said, "You have plenty of beauties and attendants as well as jewelry and silk cloth, and the state of Chu abounds in rare brides and animals. What treasure can the State of Jin boast having to present to your majesty?" King Cheng of the State of Chu said, "You are too modest. Nevertheless, you still have to show your gratitude to me in one way or another, I presume?" Smiling, Chong Er answered, "If I should be fortunate enouge to return to the State of Jin and become its ruler, the State of Jin would be friendly to the State of Chu. If, one day, there should be a war between the two states, I would definitely order my troops to retreat three SHE (one SHE is equivalent to thirty LI. The LI is a Chinese unit of length equivalent to 1/2 kilometre. And, therefore, three SHE is about thirty miles.) as a condition for peace. If, under that condition, you were still not reconciled, I would have to fight with you."
Four years later, as might be expected, Chong Er returned to the State of Jin and became its ruler. He was none other than Duke Wen of the State of Jin famous in ancient Chinese history. Ruled by him, the State of Jin became increasingly powerful.
In the year 533 B.C., the Chu troops and the Jin troops confronted each other in a battle. Faithful to his promise, Duke Wen of the State of Jin ordered his troops to retreat about thirty miles. After retreating, the Jin troops were stationed at Chengpu. Seeing that the Jin troops were retreating, the Chu troops thought that the enemy troops were afraid, and began chasing them. Taking advantage of the Chu troops' arrogance and their talking the Jin troops lightly, the Jin troops concentrated their forces and inflicted a crushing defeat on the Chu troops, thus winning the victory of the battle of Chengpu.
This set phrase, "retreating about thirty miles as a condition for peace," is derived from the Chapter "The Twenty-second Year of Duke Xi" in ZuoZhuan, the famous commentary by Zuo Qiuming on The spring and Autumn Annals. The idea of this set phrase is to give way to somebody in order to avoid a conflict.

“I LEFT in 1980 with only three dollars in my pocket,” recalls Li Sanqi. Like most in that elite group, he excelled, rising to a coveted position at the University of Texas, while launching several technology firms. Now he is a senior executive at Huawei, a Chinese telecoms giant, enticed back by the chance to help build a world-class multinational.
Mr Li seems the perfect example of a sea turtle, orhai gui(in Mandarin, the phrase “return across the sea” sounds similar to that animal’s name), long applauded in China for bringing back advanced skills. In the past such folk reliably reaped handsome premiums in the local job market, but no longer. Sea turtles are not universally praised, the wage differential is shrinking and some are even unable to find jobs. Wags say they should now be calledhai dai, or seaweed. This is a startling turn, given their past contributions.
Wang Huiyao of the China Western Returned Scholars Association, which celebrates its centenary this year, observes that sea turtles have returned in five waves. The first, in the 19th century, produced China’s first railway-builder and its first university president. The second and third, before 1949, produced many leaders of the Nationalist and Communist parties. The fourth wave, which went to the Soviet bloc in the 1950s, produced such leaders as Jiang Zemin and Li Peng.
The present wave began in 1978, and is by far the biggest. Since then, about 2.6m Chinese have gone abroad to study. The exodus has grown of late to about 400,000 per year. The majority stay overseas, but the 1.1m who have come back have made a difference. Mr Wang argues that whereas the first three waves revolutionised China and the fourth modernised it, the fifth wave is globalising the country.
Sea turtles are helping to link China’s economy to the world. They founded leading technology firms such as Baidu. Many are senior managers in the local divisions of multinational firms. They are helping to connect China to commercial, political and popular culture abroad.
Why then is their importance declining? Several studies show that sea turtles on average must now wait longer to find a less senior post at a smaller salary premium over local hires. The weakening job market for all graduates is one reason. Another is that, as China’s domestic market has taken off, industries such as e-commerce have evolved in ways unfamiliar to those who spent years abroad. Gary Rieschel of Qiming Ventures, a venture-capital firm, says that investors who a decade ago would have funded only those returning from Silicon Valley are now backing entrepreneurs from local universities, who are more familiar with local consumption patterns, computer-gaming habits and social media such as Weibo and Weixin.
As China has boomed, its managers have started to shed their inferiority complex. A senior executive at Tencent, a Chinese social-media giant, says he still poaches sea turtles from foreign firms, but finds they have difficulty managing local engineers. A European investment banker says turtles often cling to quaint Western notions like transparency, meritocracy and ethics, which puts them at a disadvantage in China’s hyper-Darwinian economy, where locals are more willing to do whatever the boss or client wants.
Even foreign firms in China are getting pickier about whom they hire. Yannig Gourmelon of Roland Berger, a German management consultancy, believes the broader profit squeeze at multinational firms that killed off gilded expatriate packages has also sharply reduced the salary premium offered to sea turtles.
C grade turtles
There is another explanation: many of the latest wave are of lower quality. In the past, only the very best were allowed to go out and so competition for government scholarships was fierce. But as incomes have risen, many families of mediocre Chinese students have spent a fortune on degrees from universities of dubious quality that do little to enhance their job prospects. Worse yet, partly because of the downturn in Western economies, many have come back without work experience.
Even as hordes of less employable expatriates return, the brightest remain abroad. A study funded by America’s National Science Foundation found that 92% of Chinese with American PhDs still lived in that country five years after graduation. For Indians, the figure was 81%, for South Koreans 41% and for Mexicans 32%.
To lure such superstars back, the Chinese government is pouring pots of money into a scheme called 1,000 Talents, which offers generous subsidies and other perks. The powerful Organisation Department of the Communist Party is urging regional leaders and university heads to meet quotas for securing talent. In a forthcoming paper, Mr Wang and David Zweig of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology argue that China has been “perhaps the most assertive government in the world” in such efforts.
Will it work? It seems doubtful. Despite the policies, returning entrepreneurs hit many problems. Labour and land costs are rising, the theft of intellectual property is still rampant and corruption is widespread. Few top-tier scientists have returned. Mr Wang and Mr Zweig’s paper explains why: “If China wants to bring back the best, it needs a fundamental reform of its academic and scientific institutions” to break the power of politicised administrators over hiring and funding.
The hard truth is that Chinese abroad often have ambivalent attitudes towards their homeland. The wife and children of Huawei’s Mr Li, the seemingly archetypal sea turtle, still live in America. Rather than just shovelling out subsidies, Chinese officials might do better to strengthen the rule of law, root out corruption and clean up China’s air, water and food. Sea turtles would be sure to notice.

The CEO is going to be late for class.
Megan Grassell founded her teen-targeted underwear company, Yellowberry, at 17 and now, as a high-school senior, she is trying to juggle a very full schedule of classes, extracurricular activities, and running a burgeoning business. "To say it's taking over my life is a very small way to put it," Grassell laughed during an interview with Fortune. "But I love it."
It was during a trip to the mall with Mary Margaret, her younger sister, that inspiration struck: "I was shopping for bras at the mall with my mom and little sister, and we went to a bunch of different stores looking for a good first bra for Mary Margaret, but there was nothing. There were jogging bras or these very sexual padded, push-up bras. I kept wondering, where is the cute little bra in fun colors? I realized that it just didn't exist. About a week later it hit me: If no one else is going to do it, I'm going to do it. I'm going to make bras for girls."
To fund her startup, Grassell raided her savings: "I worked every summer since sixth or seventh grade. First pumping gas and then I bussed tables and waitressed at a place called Nora's, which is a fantastic restaurant. I saved all of that and used it to get my product to the prototyping phase."
While Grassell throws around words like "prototyping" now, actually developing prototypes for her bras presented a steep learning curve for the teen. "Going into this process, I had no experience. I don't even know how to sew! If I get a hole in my jeans, I'm out of luck, because I don't know how to fix it," said Grassell. "There are a lot of things that have to come together in order for a bra to be made. Sourcing the fabric was a challenge, finding out where to produce and who to work with. I didn't know about quantities or anything. I had to learn all of that."
To move from prototype to production, Grassell turned to the crowdfunding site Kickstarter. "The original goal was $25,000," said Grassell, "And I raised almost $42,000, which was pretty exciting." It was also one of the most successful Kickstarter campaigns ever for an underwear or lingerie startup, ever.
With the Kickstarter campaign completed, Grassell found a production facility through a contact in her hometown of Jackson Hole, Wyo. The factory, which is in Los Angeles -- and was vetted by her mom who was in California during one of Mary Margaret's soccer games -- has a low minimum order amount, which is good for a startup, but can also grow to meet increasing demand as necessary, which Grassell thinks is important. "If I get a phone call asking for a huge order, I will make that happen," she said.
That can-do attitude is what people expect from a CEO, but not necessarily from a teenaged girl. Grassell admits that her age has been a challenge in doing business. "One of the biggest problems I had getting started was getting people to take me and my ideas seriously. I hope now they can see that I'm serious and that this is happening," said Grassell, who comes across as a hybrid businesswoman: Half Rookie magazine editor savant TaviGevinson, half Spanx founder Sara Blakely. "I have a vision for the company. I know how I want it to grow, and I can't wait to see how it becomes established."
Yellowberry is already on the market. At the company's polished online shop, customers can choose between four styles, including "Bug Bite" and "Tiny Tetons," names in line with the company's motto: "From the bunny hills to the Tetons, we have you covered." Yellowberry's brightly colored bras are made from a cotton-spandex blend that is meant to provide a soft, comfortable transition between children's undershirts and more adult bras. Needless to say there is nary an underwire in site. The bras are meant to give growing girls an option in the underwear market. "Yellowberry gives girls the idea that they don't have to grow up so quickly," Grassell said. "If they want to wear other bras, they can, we're not saying what's appropriate or not, but we want them to have another option."
While launching and running a one-woman company ("My mom has been helping me recently," she noted) and bringing a new product to market is challenging for anyone, Grassell has more on her plate than the average CEO. "The biggest challenge is that I'm still a full-time student, so the timing aspect has been really hard," said Grassell. "I'm excited to be finished with my senior year in a few weeks so that I can truly work full time." Grassell may end up deferring college -- she's been accepted at Middlebury College -- for a year to focus on Yellowberry.
While Grassell may study business when she gets to college, she has already managed to do something that most MBAs dream of: She identified an unfulfilled niche in the marketplace and designed a specifically targeted product to fulfill the demand. As it turns out, her comfortable, well-designed cute products may disrupt the teen lingerie world.
It appears that there is a lot of demand for wholesome, age-appropriate, fun bras for tweens and teens. At the time of this article, Grassell's product is completely sold out ("It's a very good problem to have," she said) and she is working to fill back orders as quickly as possible.
After calculus, of course.

After retirement, our friends Jim and Evelyn began traveling around the United States in a motor home, towing their compact sedan behind. While driving through a shopping mall parking lot in New York, they were pleased when a motorist stopped his vehicle and signaled them through.
Seconds later, they were jolted to a stop by a loud crash behind them. To their amazement, the polite motorist had demolished their car.
His explanation:"I didn't mind letting you nice folks by,but I didn't want that compact car to sneak through too."

My friend, celebrating a special occasion, went to a restaurant and ordered what she thought would be a lobster tail. But to her dismay, the entire crustacean was on her plate.
"He's looking right at me!”she exclaimed to the waiter. "I just can't eat him.’
The waiter removed her plate, but returned it a few moments later. The lobster now had a blindfold neatly tied around its eyes.

Long ago, only the cats had the ability to trace their prey by its odour, while the other animals used their vision to discover their prey.
The dog knew that was the best way to hunt a prey so he decided to visit the cat.
“Mr. Cat, can you teach me the skill to trace the prey by its odour? It is very efficient and convenient.”
The cat agreed to teach the dog and to let him stay in his house during the lessons. After a few days, the dog thought that he could use the skill and he wanted to go home.
“You have not learnt the skill yet,”said the cat.“You have to stay longer.”
“But I have to go home now,”the dog insisted.
“All right,”the cat said,“you may go back tomorrow but not today.”
The next morning, the cat said to his wife,“When the dog comes to bid farewell, tell him that I have gone out. When he asks where, tell him that you don't know.”
After a while, the dog came.“Where is the teacher?”he asked.
“He went out early in the morning and I don't know where he went,”the cat's wife answered.
Actually, the cat intended to test whether the dog had learnt how to trace any prey by its odour.
The dog started by following the footprints of the cat. However, after a short distance, the cat had jump from one rock to another and then gone into a cave.
Then he came out from the other side and leapt onto a tree.
The dog followed the seemingly vanishing footprints of the cat and he came to the two rocks.
He entered the cave and managed to come out from the other side of it.
At last, he came to the tree but he could not find any footprint. The dog could not trace the cat though he kept going round and round the tree.
The cat stayed on top of the tree watching every move of the dog. Finally, he said,“Look up! You have not completely learnt the skill and yet you are ready to leave. You can see now that you are still ignorant.”
Since then, the dog only knows how to trail its prey on the ground.

In past times there were a king and a queen, who said every day, "Oh, if only we had a child!" but they never received one.
Then it happened one day while the queen was sitting in her bath, that a frog crept out of the water onto the ground and said to her, "Your wish shall be fulfilled, and before a year passes you will bring a daughter into the world."
What the frog said did happen, and the queen gave birth to a girl who was so beautiful that the king could not contain himself for joy, and he ordered a great celebration. He invited not only his relatives, friends, and acquaintances, but also the wise women so that they would be kindly disposed toward the child. There were thirteen of them in his kingdom, but because he had only twelve golden plates from which they were to eat, one of them had to remain at home.
The feast was celebrated with great splendor, and at its conclusion the wise women presented the child with their magic gifts. The one gave her virtue, the second one beauty, the third one wealth, and so on with everything that one could wish for on earth.
The eleventh one had just pronounced her blessing when the thirteenth one suddenly walked in. She wanted to avenge herself for not having been invited, and without greeting anyone or even looking at them she cried out with a loud voice, "In the princess's fifteenth year she shall prick herself with a spindle and fall over dead." And without saying another word she turned around and left the hall.
Everyone was horrified, and the twelfth wise woman, who had not yet offered her wish, stepped foreward. Because she was unable to undo the wicked wish, but only to soften it, she said, "It shall not be her death. The princess will only fall into a hundred-year deep sleep."
The king, wanting to rescue his dear child, issued an order that all spindles in the entire kingdom should be burned. The wise women's gifts were all fulfilled on the girl, for she was so beautiful, well behaved, friendly, and intelligent that everyone who saw her had to love her.
Now it happened that on the day when she turned fifteen years of age the king and the queen were not at home, and the girl was all alone in the castle. She walked around from one place to the next, looking into rooms and chambers as her heart desired. Finally she came to an old tower. She climbed up the narrow, winding stairs and arrived at a small door. In the lock there was a rusty key, and when she turned it the door sprang open. There in a small room sat an old woman with a spindle busily spinning her flax.
"Good day, old woman," said the princess. "What are you doing there?"
"I am spinning," said the old woman, nodding her head.
"What is that thing that is so merrily bouncing about?" asked the girl, taking hold of the spindle, for she too wanted to spin.
She had no sooner touched the spindle when the magic curse was fulfilled, and she pricked herself in the finger. The instant that she felt the prick she fell onto a bed that was standing there, and she lay there in a deep sleep. And this sleep spread throughout the entire castle. The king and queen, who had just returned home, walked into the hall and began falling asleep, and all of their attendants as well. The horses fell asleep in their stalls, the dogs in the courtyard, the pigeons on the roof, the flies on the walls, and even the fire on the hearth flickered, stopped moving, and fell asleep. The roast stopped sizzling. The cook, who was about to pull kitchen boy's hair for having done something wrong, let him loose and fell asleep. The wind stopped blowing, and outside the castle not a leaf was stirring in the trees.
Round about the castle a thorn hedge began to grow, and every year it became higher, until it finally surrounded and covered the entire castle. Finally nothing at all could be seen of it, not even the flag on the roof.
A legend circulated throughout the land about the beautiful sleeping Little Brier-Rose, for so the princess was called. Legends also told that from time to time princes came, wanting to force their way through the hedge into the castle. However, they did not succeed, for the thorns held firmly together, as though they had hands, and the young men became stuck in them, could not free themselves, and died miserably.
Many long, long years later, once again a prince came to the country. He heard an old man telling about the thorn hedge. It was said that there was a castle behind it, in which a beautiful princess named Little Brier-Rose had been asleep for a hundred years, and with her the king and the queen and all the royal attendants were sleeping. He also knew from his grandfather that many princes had come and tried to penetrate the thorn hedge, but they had become stuck in it and died a sorrowful death.
Then the young man said, "I am not afraid. I will go there and see the beautiful Little Brier-Rose."
However much the good old man tried to dissuade him, the prince would not listen to his words.
The hundred years had just passed, and the day had come when Little Brier-Rose was to awaken. When the prince approached the thorn hedge, it was nothing but large, beautiful flowers that separated by themselves, allowing him to pass through without harm, but then behind him closed back into a hedge.
In the courtyard he saw the horses and spotted hunting dogs lying there asleep, and on the roof the pigeons, perched with their little heads tucked under they wings. When he walked inside the flies were asleep on the wall, the cook in the kitchen was still holding up his hand as if he wanted to grab the boy, and the maid was sitting in front of the black chicken that was supposed to be plucked. He walked further and saw all the attendants lying asleep in the hall, and above them near the throne the king and the queen were lying. He walked on still further, and it was so quiet that he could hear his own breath. Finally he came to the tower and opened the door to the little room where Little Brier-Rose was sleeping.
There she lay and was so beautiful that he could not take his eyes off her. He bent over and gave her a kiss. When he touched her with the kiss Little Brier-Rose opened her eyes, awoke, and looked at him kindly.
They went downstairs together, and the king awoke, and the queen, and all the royal attendants, and they looked at one another in amazement. The horses in the courtyard stood up and shook themselves. The hunting dogs jumped and wagged their tails. The pigeons on the roof pulled their little heads out from beneath their wings, looked around, and flew into the field. The flies on the walls crept about again. The fire in the kitchen rose up, broke into flames, and cooked the food. The roast began to sizzle once again. The cook boxed the boy's ears, causing him to cry, and the maid finished plucking the chicken.
And then the prince's marriage to Little Brier-Rose was celebrated with great splendor, and they lived happily until they died.

Let’s take a look at some of these incubators and how students, both enrolled and fresh graduates can apply for them.
The basic requirements and application procedure are similar for most business incubators. But there are some factors that can increase your chances of joining a business incubator.
1. Start-up business teams that have won a provincial or national entrepreneurship competition have a better chance of joining a business incubator.
2. Start-up business teams that are registered with Youth Business China, a non-profit program that aims to promote youth entrepreneurship, are more likely to join business incubators than those that are not.
3. High-tech or innovative start-up projects have an advantage against others.

An old Japanese man kept a sparrow of which he was very fond. One day it flew away and the old man became sad.
He went out looking all over the place for his sparrow At last, near a certain mountain, he met his sparrow.
The old man said joyously, "I missed you very much, sparrow. Will you follow me home?"
Though the sparrow was happy to see the old man, it shook its head.
"Take me to your home and let me see how you live."The old man pleaded. "I will go away happy to see if you are safe."
So the sparrow led the old man to his home. There were many other birds.
They all looked healthy and enjoyed each other's company.
"I am glad you are well and have good companions, dear sparrow. I can go back in peace, " said the old man.
When it was time for the old man to leave, the sparrow gave him a basket to take home with him as a present.
"Well," said the old man's wife angrily when he returned, "where have you been all day? And what have you here?"
"I have been to the home of my lost sparrow and received this basket as a present, replied he.
When she opened the basket sh6 was amazed to find it was full of gold and silver.
The old woman, who was very greedy, decided that she would like a basket of gold, so she set out for the sparrow's home, Unlike the old man who was kind to the sparrow, the wife used to treat it very badly.
"Hello, sparrow, how are you? I missed you very much," cried the old woman hypocritically.
The sparrow said nothing and she finally decided to go home.
Still the sparrow did not give her any present she had hoped for.
Before she left, she unashamedly asked for a present. "My husband got a basket of gold and silver from you, " she reminded the bird.
"Alright, replied the sparrow, "for your husband's sake, I offer you two choices. One basket is light and the other is heavy. Just choose one. But you can only open the basket when you reach home!"
The greedy old woman cried out, I’ll take the heavy one, " as she thought its weight will contain more gold and silver. "Are you sure?" asked the sparrow.
"Yes. As sure as you see me standing before you! I'll take the heavy basket," she replied. So the old woman panted and puffed breathlessly as she carried the heavy basket all the way.
But when she arrived home and opened the basket, it was full of stones.

It was the golden season. I could see the yellow leaves falling with the cool wind. For others, it is a harvest season, while for me, it is an annoying season. I was preparing for the Postgraduate Entrance Examination. But so many unhappy things made me so tired, so I decided to have a walk along the Yanjiang Road in my university.
“Autumn is a lonely season and life is uninteresting. The days in this season always get me down”, I thought when the sound of a guitar flowed into my ears, like a stream flowing from the mountains. I was so surprised that I ran to see what it was. A young girl, sitting on the lawn, was lost in playing her guitar. She was a beautiful girl, especially when the wind blew her long hair. I had never seen her before. The music was so attractive that I listened quietly.
Lost in the music, I did not realize that I had been standing for so long. But my existence did not seem to disturb her. Leaves were still falling. Every day when I passed by the lawn, I would see her playing her guitar. She was the only performer and I was the only audience. During the rest of the days in the season, life became interesting and I could review the courses carefully. Though we did not know each other, I thought we were always good friends.
Autumn was nearly over. One day, when I was listening devotedly, the sound suddenly stopped. To my astonishment, the girl came over to me.
“You must like the music,” she said.
“Yes, you play very well. Why did you stop?” I asked.
Suddenly, a sad expression appeared on her face.
“I came here just to have a rest because I failed in the college entrance examination. I felt very disappointed. And it was your listening every day that encouraged me,” she said, “and I have to go tomorrow.”
“In fact, it was your playing that gave me a meaningful autumn and helped me believe that I have the ability to pass the Postgraduate Entrance Examination.” I answered, “I think it was God who gave us the chance to know each other and we should be good friends.”
She smiled and I smiled.
Since then, I have never seen her again. I no longer passed by that lawn. Only thick leaves were left behind. But I will always remember the season and the girl. It was her appearance that helped me passed the Postgraduate Entrance Examination, though she only appeared a few days in my life.
We may encounter many people in our lives. Some are like a shooting star, but give off so much light that they guide you in the correct direction; some are like clothes to you, they are always with you, but do not understand you. Just as a famous saying, many people step in your life, but only true friends leave footprints.
I shall always recall the autumn, the girl and the sound of her guitar. I know she will always be my best friend.

Sometimes people come into your life and you know right away they were meant to be there ,to serve some sort of purpose ,teach you a lesson,or to help you figure out who you are orwho you want to become. You never know who these people maybe (possibly your roommate ,neighbor , coworker , long lost friend , lover , or even a complete stranger),but when you lockeyes with them, you know at that very moment they will affect your life in some profound way.
And sometimes things happen to you that may seem horrible , painful. and unfair at first , butin reflection you find that without overcoming those obstacles you would have never realizedyour potential , strength , willpower , or heart.
Everything happens for a reason.Nothing happens by chance or by means of good luck.Illness ,injury, love, lost moments of true greatnes and sheer stupidity all occur to test the limits ofyour soul. Without these small test whatever they may be ,life would be like a smoothly paved, straight, flat road to nowhere. It would be safe and comfortable, but dull and utterlypointless. The people you meet who affect your life ,and the success and downfalls youexperience , help to create who you are and who you become.
Even the bad experiences can be learned from.In fact ,they are probably the most poignantand important ones.If someone hurts you , betrays you ,or breaks your heart, forgive them, forthey have helped you learn about trust and the importance of being cautious when you openyour heart. If someone loves you ,love them back unconditionally, not only because they loveyou ,but because in a way , they are teaching you to love and how to open your heart and eyesto things.
Make every day count.Appreciate every moment and take from those moments everything thatyou possibly can for you may never be able to experience it again.Talk to people that you havenever talked to before, and actually listen.Let yourself fall in love, break free, and set yoursights high.Hold your head up because you have every right to.Tell yourself you are a greatindividual and believe in yourself, for if you don't believe in yourself , it will be hard for others tobelieve in you .You can make of your life anything you wish.Create your own life and then goout and live it with absolutely no regrets.
Most impotantly,if you LOVE someone, tell him or her ,for you never know what tomorrow mayhave in store. And learn a lesson in life each day that you live.
That's The Story Of Life.

For many of us, one Christmas stands out from allthe others, the one when the meaning of the dayshone clearest. My own "truest" Christmas began ona rainy spring day in the bleakest year of my life.
Recently divorced, I was in my 20s, had no job andwas on my way downtown to go the rounds of theemployment offices. I had no umbrella, for my oldone had fallen apart, and I could not afford anotherone.
I sat down in the streetcar--and there against the seat was a beautiful silk umbrella with a silverhandle inlaid with gold and necks of bright enamel. I had never seen anything so lovely.
I examined the handle and saw a name engraved among the golden scrolls. The usualprocedure would have been to turn in the umbrella to the conductor, but on impulse Idecided to take it with me and find the owner myself.
I got off the streetcar in a downpour and thankfully opened the umbrella to protect myself. Then I searched a telephone book for the name on the umbrella and found it. I called and a ladyanswered.
Yes, she said in surprise, that was her umbrella, which her parents, now dead, had given her fora birthday present. But, she added, it had been stolen from her locker at school (she was ateacher) more than a year before.
She was so excited that I forgot I was looking for a job and went directly to her small house. She took the umbrella, and her eyes filled with tears.
the teacher wanted to give me a reward, but--though twenty dollars was all I had in the world--her happiness at retrieving this special possession was such that to have accepted moneywould have spoiled something. We talked for a while, and I must have given her my address. Idon't remember.
the next six months were wretched. I was able to obtain only temporary employment hereand there, for a small salary. But I put aside twenty-five or fifty cents when I could afford it formy lithe girl's Christmas presents.
My last job ended the day before Christmas, my thirty-dollar rent was soon due, and 1 hadfifteen dollars to my name--which Peggy and I would need for food.
She was home from convent boarding school and was excitedly looking forward to her gifs nextday, which I had already Purchased. I had bough her a small tree, and we were going todecorate it that night.
the air was full of the sound of Christmas merriment as I walked from the streetcar to my smallapartment. Bells rang and children shouted in the bitter dusk of the evening, and windows werelighted and everyone was running and laughing. But there should be no Christmas for me, Iknew, no gifts, no remembrance whatsoever.
As l struggled through the snowdrifts, l had just about reached the lowest Point in my life.Unless a miracle happened, I would be homeless in January, foodless, jobless. I had prayedsteadily for weeks, and there had been no answer but this coldness and darkness, this harshair, this abandonment.
God and men had completely forgotten me. I felt so helpless and so lonely. What was tobecome of us?
I looked in my mail box. there were only bills in it, a sheaf of them, and two white envelopeswhich I was sure contained more bills. I went up three dusty flights of stairs and I cried, shivering in my thin coat.
But I made myself smile so I could GREet my little daughter with a Pretense of happiness. Sheopened the door for me and threw herself in my arms, screaming joyously and demanding thatwe decorate the tree immediately.
Peggy had proudly set our kitchen table for our evening meal and put pans out and three cansof food which would be our dinner. For some reason, when I looked at those pans and cans, Ifelt brokenhearted. We would have only hamburgers for our Christmas dinner tomorrow.
I stood in the cold little kitchen, misery overwhelmed me. For the first time in my life, Idoubted the existence and his mercy, and the coldness in my heart was colder than ice.
the doorbell rang and Peggy ran fleetly to answer it, calling that it must be Santa Claus. Then Iheard a man talking heartily to her and went to the door. He was a delivery man, and his armswere full of parcels. "This is a mistake," I said, but he read the name on the parcels and therewere for me.
When he had gone I could only stare at the boxes. Peggy and I sat on the floor and openedthem. A huge doll, three times the size of the one I had bought for her. Gloves. Candy. Abeautiful leather purse. Incredible! I looked for the name of the sender. It was the teacher, theaddress was simply "California", where she had moved.
Our dinner the nigh was the most delicious I had ever eaten. I forgot I had no money for therent and only fifteen dollars in my purse and no job. My child and I ate and laughed together inhappiness.
then we decorated the little tree and marveled at it. I put Peggy to bed and set up her giftsaround the tree and a sweet peace flooded me like a benediction. I had some hope again. Icould even examine the sheaf of bills without cringing.

On the first day of an American history class at Purdue University, the professor assigned five chapters on civil rights. The next day, he asked one of my classmates to name ten of those rights. When the student made no response, the professor said,"ALL RIGHT. Name five. "Still the student said nothing. Finally, the exasperated professor begged,"Just name one right you have as a civilian."
To a room full of laughter, the young man replied,”I have the right to remain silent.”

One evening, when I asked our six-year-old girl which bedtime story she wanted, she replied,"I don't know. Let's open the main menu and see what stories are in the book.”I explained that "main menu"is a computer term;in books,it's called the "table of contents".
That weekend, I repeated the episode over the phone to her grandmother. Grandma was amused, too. She said, "I guess you must be taking her out to eat too often."

I taught a "gifted and talented"class made up of particularly bright fifth-and-sixth graders. In the midst of a lesson on the power of observation, I realized that I was wearing two different styles of shoes. Trying to be as inconspicuous as possible,I moved behind my desk and concluded the lesson from there, thankful that the students didn't seem to have noticed.
The next day,I discovered that my lesson had been learned all too well. Before me sat a class of bright, smiling students—each wearing mismatched shoes.

Now, boys and girls, you will think this is a strange name. God said:"Tell them that I AM THAT I AM sent you." We can understand a lot about God from that name. It means that He is the same yesterday, today, forever. He has just as much power and love and life today, as He has ever had! And then God told Moses to tell the people of Israel this name:the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
But Moses was still afraid to go, so he made another excuse:"But they wont believe me." God asked:" What is that in your hand?" Moses answered, my shepherd’s rod. God said, Throw it down. When Moses did, that straight stiff rod became a slithering snake! And Moses ran from it! Wouldn’t you?Pick it up by the tail. And Moses did! Instantly it became a straight stiff piece of wood again!
That’s not all! Then God said, put your hand inside your coat. When Moses obeyed, and then pulled his hand out, oh! His hand was covered with the terrible disease of leprosy. Now put your hand inside your coat again. Moses did, and when he brought his hand out again, the leprosy was gone!
If you know the Lord Jesus as your Saviour from sin, you are Gods child. He will ask you to do things for Him. But who is really doing the work?It is God working through you. Lets say our memory verse again. I Thessalonians 5:24, Faithful is he that calleth you who also will do it.
God was ready to do a great work through Moses. But oh no, can you believe Moses refused again! O my Lord, please send someone else! The Bible says God became angry with Moses, but He was still patient as He said, your brother Aaron speaks well. I will allow him to speak and you will do the miracles. Moses then made preparation to go to Egypt.
But even with a brother to help Moses, it would still be God Who would do the mighty work of leading His people!
Moses went back to Jethro and asked him to let him return to Egypt. His father-in-law agreed and soon Moses was traveling back through the deserts and mountains to return to Egypt after forty long years of being away. What would happen to Moses?Would Pharaoh listen?
Will the Hebrew leaders listen?Moses would have to depend on God for His help!
