People use their mouths for many things. They eat, talk, shout and sing. They smile and they kiss. In the English language, there are many expressions using the word “mouth.”
For example, if you say bad things about a person, the person might protest and say “Do not bad mouth me.” Sometimes, people say something to a friend or family member that they later regret because it hurts that person’s feelings. Or they tell the person something they were not supposed to tell. The speaker might say: “I really put my foot in my mouth this time.” If this should happen, the speaker might feel down in the mouth. In other words, he might feel sad for saying the wrong thing.
Another situation is when someone falsely claims another person said something. The other person might protest: “I did not say that. Do not put words in my mouth.”
Some people have lots of money because they were born into a very rich family. There is an expression for this, too. You might say such a person, “was born with a silver spoon in his mouth.” This rich person is the opposite of a person who lives from hand to mouth. This person is very poor and only has enough money for the most important things in life, like food.
Parents might sometimes withhold sweet food from a child as a form of punishment for saying bad things. For example, if a child says things she should not say to her parents, she might be described as a mouthy child. The parents might even tell the child to stop mouthing off.
But enough of all this talk. I have been running my mouth long enough.
51.In what kind of situation will a person say “Do not bad mouth me.” ?

Besides containing attractive flowers, trees and other plants that beautify the community, eco-friendly rain gardens are healthy for the environment and the people living and working nearby.
A rain garden is not very different from a traditional garden. It is just a far more eco-friendly garden. Usually it is built lower than the ground. Rain gardens make smart use of rain and storm water by temporarily holding water from rain and storms and letting it soak(浸人)slowly into the ground before it runs into streams or enters the public drinking water supply.
Thus, a rain garden keeps the water, allowing it to be used as needed by plants in the rain garden, rather than flowing immediately into nearby streams and going unused. The water will soak slowly into the ground within a day or two. This creates an advantage that the rain garden does not allow mosquitoes to breed. This is a simple, attractive, and eco-friendly “green” way to treat storm water.
What’s more, planting a rain garden helps reduce pollution and improve the environment. Without using expensive machinery and chemicals, rain gardens remove harmful chemicals in the rainwater and cut down on the amount of pollution reaching streams and rivers by up to 30%.
Native plants are recommended for rain gardens because they are more used to the locals climatem, soil, and water conditions. They may attract local wildlife such as native birds. Water your rain garden immediately after planting and once a week, unless you have had at least an inch of rain during the week. Once the native plants establish the necessary root system, it will require little care.
Often, local governments and private businesses develop large rain gardens in their yards and in public parks as a way to improve the environment and solve flooding problems. However, you don’t need to be a professional environmental engineer to create a rain garden. As long as you’re eco-conscious homeowners, you can help the environment by building smaller rain gardens in your yards.
55.Which of the following is the eco-friendly function of rain gardens discussed in Paragraph 4?

They are working as quickly as possible while weather conditions remain relatively stable. More storms are forecast for the erea.

To learn an instrument such as the violin or accordion(手风琴)takes years. The job opportunities for musicians are scarce and competition is fierce. Then why are more people than ever before paying a lot of good cash to get their children the best music teaching they can afford?
The secret lies in the influence of music on the whole person. It has been found that learning a musical instrument actually increases a person’s IQ over time. Different instruments and different trypes of music have varying effect, with classical music and the string family coming out on top, potentially increasing you IQ by up to 12 points!
When is a good time to start learning music? Experts have found that even the fetus(胎儿)can benefit from listening to classical music. Surround yourself and your family with good music from the first. The Suzuki Piano Method teaches children from the age of 3 years piano, with two lessons per week. From preschool, children can learn to read music and play from sheet music. Progress in learning your instrument is directly proportional(成比例的)to the amount of practicing.
Is there such a thing as an unmusical child? Shinichi Suzuki proposes that music is the native home language of all human beings and therefore nobody can be “unmusical”. Of course there are exceptional talents, compared to which others may seem to be slower learners.
Is there any benefit for adults in starting an instrument? Apart from the purely relaxing aspect, yes. Learning an instrument can earn even adults additional IQ points, and as an added benefit in improves your health by reducing your stress levels. Your social life may benefit too, if you are prepared to come out of your box and join occasions such as Ceilidhs (musical get-togethers) or arrange house concerts. It has been established that people who play instruments tend to be more emotionally balanced and more patient with themselves, others and life in general.
So go ahead, sign up for that amateur orchestra, dust off your old trombone(长号)or take your first real six-string down from the attic(阁楼); get out there and play!

At the moment when looking round the world, all kinds of dance performances are being offered. There are competitions that claim to be a World Cup or World Championship, and the young dancer or the dance teacher who wants to enter his students might be quite confused. Which is which? Which is of high standard and good quality, and which is not worth going to? First of all it has clearly got to be distinguished between the different styles of dance and the purpose of such competitions. When a person wants to learn classical ballet, he or she would never dream of going to a ballroom teacher. Such a teacher might even have been world champion in his ballroom dancing, but he would definitely not be qualified in teaching proper classical ballet.
People in Britain and the USA are taking more interest in modern dance. Dance classes of all kinds are popular; the audiences going to watch modern dance companies are also larger. And perhaps the most popular modern dance company in Britain is the Ballet Rambert.
The Ballet Rambert is Britains’ oldest established dance company which began in 1926. In the 60 s the company lacked the money to go on staging big productions. The directors wanted to encourage new talent and to keep up their high standards. A change of direction was necessary. They decided to give the ballet a ‘new look” in 1966. The aim was to provide a chance for new talent – for musicians and designers as well as dancers – and to show dance as a contemporary art form. And although some of the company’s previous fans dislike the change, new audiences came to see the productions.
The modern dance pieces and modern music found unexpected popularity. In the 21 st century the Ballet Rambert was a great success in London’s West End. The company became a focus for new, progressive talent in the art.
Then, the Ballet Ramvert started to introduce young people to modern dance by giving performances at schools, which again, was a success.
The Ballet Rambert has managed to make modern dance popular while creating original and often avant –garde (标新立异) productions. It can claim to be the oldest dance company in Britain and at the same time one of the most modern!

I'd been thinking of it so long; it seemed like the only thing to do-to show my baby, who had eyes as green as water and whose name means the sea, the ocean.
"Babies are supposed to instinctually know who they daddy is," Gerald, Dooriya's daddy, said, holding Dooriya before him."But she don't recognize nothing."
Everybody had something to say about raising my baby, but none of them actually did any raising.Taking Dooriya to see the ocean had become the only thing that kept me from feeling like my life was an everlasting losing race, this vision of what could be for my little girl. When I told Momma about my plans to visit the lighthouse(灯塔)at Cape Hatteras, she just spun her broken record.
"That baby'11 never understand a thing of what she's seeing."
"My baby book says I should treat her just like any other child. It's good to show her beautiful things even if she don't know what she's seeing. It helps her brain develop. How's her brain gonna develop if all she ever sees is the walls inside this crummy house?"
"That child's brain ain't never gonna develop. We love her, but it's not like she's ever gonna not be a Mongoloid(先天愚型患者)."
I had read a half-dozen books about Down Syndrome that said stimulation(刺激)might improve a child's chances of developing to her fullest potential. And what's more stimulating than a trip to see the ocean?
Guidebooks described the area as the land of beginnings, which I liked the sound of.But before I could map out a plan, I woke up one night when Dooriya hiccupped (打嗝).Then she just stopped breathing. The ER doctor gave me a pamphlet on SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome) and said, children with Down Syndrome are much more likely to be affected by this sort of thing.
I didn't remember much about driving to Cape Hatteras, especially taking Dooriya from the hospital. But up on that lighthouse, with its broad spiral running up and around it like a black and white barber's pole, I saw my life twist into the air.
As I climbed the winding stairs, I counted the steps, 268 in all, stopping on 77, Dooriya's very number of days on this planet. At the top, I held Dooriya up to the Atlantic, its cold air raising the thin soft hair on her head. With her eyes closed and her arms spread out, it looked like she was bathing in the warmth of the sun.

We all, at one time or another, have pretended to be a rock star, singing and dancing along to our favorite song. Most of us have done this in the privacy of our own room when we were kids and as adults, in the privacy of our homes.Me? I love to do that when I drive! 1 turn on the radio, find a song that I can sing along too and pretty soon my arms are in the air and I am moving along to the rhythm. Most of the time, I do this on my way to work.
Yes, that is true, I will be in my nice work clothes, jamming while driving or stopped at a traffic light I get weird(古怪的))looks from some people and others laugh.Personally, I love to get lost in the rhythm of a song which leads me to share with you the importance of being silly!
The definition for the word silly, according to the dictionary is: stupid, foolish and nonsensical.I know many people do not want to look foolish. So they walk around all serious, which in all honesty, is foolish!
No one is perfect, I repeat: no one is perfect.I don't care how educated, how thin, how beautiful, how simple, how frugal (节俭的), how rich, and so on...No one is perfect! So why pretend to be something you are not?
Life is so short...You never know when this beautiful journey will be over, so why waste a single second on being so full of rigidity(呆板)? Here is a quote by Souza, that I think says it all and is a great recipe for life:
"Dance as though no one is watching you,
Love as though you have never been hurt before,
Sing as though no one can hear you,
Live as though heaven is on earth."
When we were kids, we had no idea of what limitations were and we had no care in the.world so we could do things without worrying about how we appeared to others. However, as we grew up, we lost that childlike innocence.
So don't lose the child that still lives within you.The next time you feel down, go turn on your favorite song, and sing and dance along like there is no tomorrow.Or watch something that makes you laugh.Laughter is the best medicine to whatever ails (使痛苦) you and nothing is better than laughing so hard that your stomach hurts.Trust me, you will feel a whole lot better, and who doesn't want to feel good?

C.They are perfect. D.They are silly.

C.life is to be treasured D.life is a great recipe
62.Which of the following would be the best title for the text?

Squirrels often communicate with whistles, chirps and chucks, which sound like the word “chuck”.Whistles and chirps are like the sounds that many birds make. Now scientists have translated some of their squirrel-speak.
Hare, a professor of zoology at the University of Maniloha in Winnipeg, and his team managed to record squirrels' alarm calls. The researchers studied the sounds and then played them back to 60 wild squirrels, which the scientists approached individually with a video recorder to capture(抓拍)their reponses. Some squirrels lifted their heads up and became.Alert(警惕的).Creatures that were more frightened simply ran for their lives and dived into caves.
"In effect then, whistles that mix with chucks say 'there's an enemy of average threat that's here', and whistles without chucks say 'there's an enemy of seemingly average threat around here somewhere', while pure chirps say, 'I'm hiding here because there's an immediate danger.' " Hare told.Discovery News.
Hare and some other researchers believe such sounds arc part of an advanced language that develops just as all other communication systems.
Although squirrels risk their lives when they call out to warn others of threats, other squirrels might admire this behaviour, thus increasingly the caller’s social status, like humans who look up to heroes. Hare added that other animals, such as birds, probably understand at least some squirrel language, since they also may benefit from the alarm calls.
In fact, another Canadian study found that deep-voiced, black-capped chickadees have their own language too.According to certain research, there are a lot of tidings in chickadees' calls, such as directing fellows' activities, keeping in contact between mates, and raising alarms.
While chickadees and other birds are often welcomed into gardens by homeowners, squirrels are frequently viewed as pests(害兽). Hare wishes a greater understanding of the complex social lives and communication systems of squirrels will provide “hope that humans will gain a greater appreciation and stop doing harm to these animals”.

1.2月下旬—3月底:模块复习,阅读训练,听力考前强化训练;
2.3月底—5月中旬:各专题训练,侧重能力培养,加强技巧分析,培养学生综合运用语言能力;

Then, Mike told his story. “I saw a man sleeping at a very dangerous place! If he moved a little in his sleep, he would fall off the mountain. And the man was Ted. He once said he would kill me if he had a chance.” said Mike, “But I moved close to him and pulled him to a safe place.”

Andrew Holleman, a 12-year-old boy, loved playing in the open land near his home. The land was wet and forested, and made a home for the birds, other animals and many different plants.
It made the perfect place for him to study and get to know the nature. He had seen some red-tailed hawks, red foxes, wood turtles and other animals. He also found special native flowers.
Suddenly it was announced that the “empty” land would be improved by a lot of houses on it. The plants would be removed, the animals would run away and most would probably die. Then the wet soil(土壤) would be covered with extra grounds.
When he heard about the news, he was not happy. He was very worried that the land and water would be polluted.
Andrew wrote down clearly all the research he had done about the area, and how the houses would affect(影响) the local environment. He sent letters to members of local government and television reporters. He also called on his neighbors to oppose the building of the houses.
Although he was only 12 years old, he had the courage and wisdom of a person much older. Andrew’s teachers described him as gentle, shy and active. His classmates also admired how much he knew about local animals and plants, and the environment. Each day after school, Andrew went door-to-door, to ask the people to sign(签名), who did not want the houses to be built. In only one month, he got the signatures of 250 people.
In the end, the land remained a safe place for birds, animals and plants that belonged there.

The National Football League (NFL) is a professional American football league with 32 teams in. How does one choose which team to support? Some people choose the team of their hometown, or where they now live, or the team that their parents or their friends follow.
A boy student from Oklahoma wrote a letter to each of the owners or presidents of the 32 NFL teams. He would see what answers he got, and then choose his team.
Bill was home from school sick. It was the week before Christmas. He was “kind of bored” and needed something to do. So he asked his parents if he could write to every professional football team. Bill wrote the 32 letters by hand.
“We weren’t quite sure what we could get back. He didn’t really have one team that he wanted to hear from,” his mother said. “He just wanted to see what kind of reply he’d get.”
A letter to the Carolina Panthers’ owner Jerry Richardson was one of those posted. Bill wrote in his letter, “My family and I love football. They are fans of different teams. But I don’t have a team to cheer for yet. I am ready to pick an NFL team to cheer on for lifetime!”
A few weeks later, Bill’s mother was pulling into her driveway when a delivery man arrived with a box from the Panthers. When Bill came home, he excitedly opened the box. Inside he found a signed Carolina Panthers helmet(头盔) as well as a handwritten note from Jerry.
The team owner had written to Bill, “We would be honored(荣幸的) if our Carolina Panthers became your team. We would make you proud of your joining us.”
Bill was overjoyed with what he got. He decided that from then on he would support the Panthers. He keeps the letter from Jerry in his bedroom. His mother says, “It’s not the helmet they sent us. It’s what they told us.” That is what mattered to Bill and why he chose to become a Panthers’ fan.

A. NFL was very professional

A. His mother kept the reply from him
B. He got many helmets from 32 teams
C. Each team wanted him to be its player
D. He became a fan of the Carolina Panthers
69. It’s clear that ______.
A. It is proper to be a football fan by Christmas

Possible version:
As a final attempt, I messaged the coffee shop s(’) Facebook page asking if they’d seen it. I must have sounded over worried in the post as I was soon flooded with abundant kind reviews. All, acquaintances or strangers, were trying to offer some comfort, advice or even money. I was touched beyond words. Suddenly, one review caught my eye, saying that my note had been found. I rushed to the coffee shop in no time, unable to believe my goodluck. Upon my arrival, the shop assistant handed me a brand new 20-pound note, at which I felt a bit surprised.
I said, “On ... This isn’t mine; my note was an old worn one.” Hearing my words, the assistant immediately took out another note, which apparently was still not my lost note. “Actually, we've received several more notes from customers.” the assistant explained, spreading even more notes on the desk. I shook my head. Disappointed as I was, I couldn’t accept what didn't belong to me. Despite the fact that 1 might suffer a tight budget in the following weeks, I felt the warmth out of the kindness. Never before had I believed so firmly that kindness was a ray of light, brightening up the day in the darkest time.

M: I need some new shorts and maybe a shirt or two. Other than that, I have everything.
Text 2
M: Where shall we go on holiday this year?
W: Why don't we take a train down to the seaside? Or we could borrow my dad’s car.
M: Going to the seaside is a great idea, but I'd like to fly there to save time.
Text 3
W: What time did you go to sleep last night, John?
M: I went to sleep at eleven, but I woke up at two with a sore throat. I didn’t get back to sleep until five, and then my alarm sounded an hour later.
Text 4
M: Hello, there. Can I help you with your bags?
W: Sure. I have a couple more up in the room. Can you look after them and call me a taxi please?
M: Certainly, ma'am.
Text 5
W: Bring your umbrella to work today. It looks like there is going to be a storm.
M: I have my raincoat in the car, so I am not worried.
W: OK, but also remember to drive slowly if it starts to rain.
Text 6
W: If you could just fill in these forms about yourself, here's a ... Oh, you’ve got a pen. M: I'm a beginner. And I’d like to start.
W: We have different kinds of classes every evening at 6:00 to help you burn off the fat. You could
try one of our beginners group on Tuesday and Thursday to get you going.

M: Not yet, I need dad's help with one of the questions.
W: Well, maybe I can help?
M: Thanks, but dad knows more about mathematics than you.
W: I am just as capable as your father. We both went to university.
M: But dad uses it all the time in his job. You write a lot in your job, so I come to you when I need help with my English tests.
W: That's very smart, but sometimes your father won't be able to help you. So if you need it, I’m here. I'm also good at geography.

Text 8
M: The school is trying to promote healthier food. Have you read this notice about the change they are making?
W: Yeah. They say the snack food machines will be removed from the school at the beginning of
next month. These machines will be replaced by those selling water, milk and fresh fruit. M: So I can't buy potato chips or cookies at school.
W: Sure not. You know the garbage that is produced attracts insects, which does harm to the environment.
M: I agree with you. But I'm afraid they don't tell me what I can eat and can't eat.
W: Well, they are giving you the chance to eat healthier food. Also, you should lose a few pounds

M: Hello, can I speak to Miss Leaney?

M: I'm Adam Watt from the Seven Star Insurance Company. Thank you for your interest in our company. I need some more information from your side.
W: Oh, sure, Mr. Watt. Please go ahead.
M: You've got a degree in finance. Why did you apply for this job?
W: I read the job description and discovered a few interesting programs that I'd like to be a part of. They’re challenging yet rewarding. Just the sort of things I consider to fit me best.
M: I see. But given your educational background, wouldn’t you want to work for some bigger companies?
W: I prefer smaller companies to bigger ones, because a smaller business has the ability to be more flexible in its service offerings. In a small company, we can provide our customers with the exact service that they need. By doing this, we can form a closer relationship with our customers as if they were our neighbors or relatives.
M: That’s very interesting. When will you be available for employment?
W: In two weeks. I've promised my parents a ten-day visit. I can start work immediately after I’m back.
M: Great. I will call you back in a couple of days about our final decision.
W: Okay. Thank you very much.

Text 1
W: Do you have everything you need for the holiday? I have a sun hat but I think I’ll buy sunglasses at the shopping mal 1.
M: That's great. Well, shall I tell the instructors about my shoulder injury or...?
W: Write it down in the forms. Your instructor will adjust your program. Our doctor can do a full fitness check before you start if you like.
Text 7
W: David, have you finished your homework yet?
M: Not yet, I need dad's help with one of the questions.
W: Well, maybe I can help?
M: Thanks, but dad knows more about mathematics than you.
W: I am just as capable as your father. We both went to university.
M: But dad uses it all the time in his job. You write a lot in your job, so I come to you when I need help with my English tests.
W: That's very smart, but sometimes your father won't be able to help you. So if you need it, I’m here. I'm also good at geography.
M: OK then. Can you tell me the answer to this one?
W: No, but I can show you how to find the answer yourself.
Also, you should lose a few pounds
and this might help.
M: Well, I have been thinking of going on a diet. I may drink water instead of sweet drinks. But I
need to eat some foods that I can't find in the school lunch room.
W: You can bring them from home.
M: Good idea! I couldn't have thought of that.
W: Sure you could.
Text 9
M: Hello, can I speak to Miss Leaney?
W: This is Leaney. May I know who's calling?
Text 10
W: Thank you for calling Cornford Museum. This is a recorded message. The museum is now closed but it is open from 10:00 a. m. to 6:00 p. m. daily. The office is open, however, and phones are answered between 9:00 and 5:00 daily. Please ring between those times if you need to speak to someone. You will now hear some recorded information about the museum. Following the success of last year's special exhibition on clothes in the eighteenth century, we are pleased to announce that there will soon be another special exhibition at the museum. It will show the diet and eating habits of both the rich and poor members of eighteenth-century society. The exhibition will be open to visitors from the beginning of July to the end of September. It contains exhibits that have been collected from all over the world, although there is a special focus on the local area. The easiest way to reach Cornford Museum is by underground as the museum is right beside the underground station. You can also get here by bus or car. The museum has a popular cafe serving hamburgers and cold drinks. There is also a gift shop selling souvenirs about the special exhibition.
