In reality, I experienced a lot in my childhood. While I was studying in the Junior High School, what impressed me most was the quarrel with my mother. At that moment, my father worked in a remote place for my tuition and expenses of the whole family. I was in a boarding school so that I could only go home over the weekend. What a precious opportunity I had﹗Nevertheless, I lost it. After I returned home, I still quarreled with my mother. During my three years in the school, I really studied diligently, and I had never forgotten those words of encouragement my parents gave me. Whenever I was frustrated, I could always get the comfort from it even though I couldn’t escape the misfortune. One day, my mother had a car accident. The moment I heard the news, my head spun. She had been in hospital for a long time but I couldn’t see her and even look after her since my father didn’t allow me to do so. I blamed myself all the time ever since. I wished I had replaced her to bear the pain. Shortly the new session was coming, I threw into a dilemma. In the end, I made up my mind to quit the school. my father urged me to go to school but I didn’t agree. The result was that my father and my head teacher managed to persuade me to go on with my study. From then on, I understood the real meaning of my life. We are more than we can express to our parents, who literally shaped us from an exciting idea to mature independence. First, let us give thanks to them for having the commitment to dedicate their lives to raise children. Putting aside one’s own selfish pleasures and conveniences for the sake of another is the hallmark of a loving person. To those with children, let us give thanks to you, where deferred gratification is a daily challenge. Next, let us give thanks to parents for protecting children. Kids are vulnerable, and keeping them free from harm allows them to develop in a context of support and security. Kids without this safety often are thrust prematurely into the adult world and later feel saddened that they missed the opportunities of growing up without conflict.

Finally, let us give thanks for parents as teachers. Children are born as fairly undifferentiated personalities, and parents, over the years, transmit literally millions of messages which eventually shape children’s personalities. While conflict or self-absorbed messages can have a negative effect on a child’s developing personality, messages based upon parent’s reflected values can teach positive habits commonly associated with personal happiness and success. This teaching is continuous throughout childhood and probably throughout life. The more thoughtful the message, the more prepared the child is to confront the developmental challenges of life.

So, let us give thanks for good parenting -- the commitment, protection and teaching which develops a child’s best qualities and benefits the entire community.

It is a celebrating day. I got in touch with Michael whom I have been losing contact for one year.

It is really magic. I was searching online aimlessly yesterday when an idea struck me suddenly: since Ben can find out my secret by keying in my name in the search engines, why can’t I do so, either?

I intended to find out something about Ben in revenge in the first place, but soon extend my name list to a wider category. It was then that I recalled Michael suddenly.

We have lost contact since our last correspondence in my senior 3. He mentioned to me in his last letter that he was preparing for going to UK to further his education. I, shamefully, was too busy to reply his mail then. When I was recommended to ZJU and won the final freedom, I thought he had already been in UK so I had no idea where to write him.

I used to think that we would never meet again. However, when I browsed the entries about him, I found out excitedly that he is still in P.R.C.!

Without a moment hesitation, I ran upstairs to my dorm and found out my old address book. Thank goodness, his home no was still there.

After 3 times calling with no answer replies, I eventually got him on the phone. He was more surprised than I could imagine that when I asked for his hp no he was too nervous to remember it. :P Hehe.

THE first time I saw Bao was in 2005, the year when Thomas and Uber Cup was held. At that time he was playing against Li zongwei, who is also a good player from Malaysia. Bao beat him. To tell the truth, at first the reason why I liked him was just because I thought he was pretty.*(maybe it is not a suitable word, but I think no better word can describe him, he is really pretty!) From that time, I have focused on him. Then gradually, I found that he not only has good appearance, but also has a talent for badminton.

He is very tall, about 1.90 meters. He is the tallest one among all the players in the Chinese Badminton Team. In 2006, he is chosen as the flag holder stands for China in the opening ceremony in the 15th Asian Games held in Doha. It was the first time that the badminton players were chosen to take over the special task, before which time, it belonged to the basketball players. It was a great honor. And it also proved that Bao was an excellent athlete. We are all proud of him.

He began to play badminton when he was at primary school. In 2000, he won his first good medal, which was significant to him, in Guangzhou. Because of that, he entered the Chinese Badminton Team. As he is as old as Lin dan, who is the top one in the world, he is always put into a situation which is not good to him. He seldom beats Lin dan, so he gained a name which is called’千年老二’. In fact, his techniques are comprehensive, but he is lack of passion, the desire to win is not so strong. So he always has misplays. Due to this, he seldom wins the gold medal. I think this is related to his character. He is easygoing and couth; he looks as if he will never get angry with anybody. So this affects him while he is playing badminton. In a period of time, critical voice has come towards him. He is under great pressure. He was not in the best state. But recently he cheers up again. Several days ago, the Chinese Badminton Championship 2007 was held in Guangzhou. I went to see him on Saturday. I was very excited, and I shouted loudly, hoping he could hear me. There is no doubt that he won the game. Before he went away, he waved hand to us, how excited I was at that time! The next day, he beat Li zongwei again and he won the man’s single gold medal. All of us are very happy. After 7 years, which could be a long time for an athlete, he proved himself again in Guangzhou, which is considered as his lucky place.

I think this will be the energy of his advancing. And I hope he can keep this fighting will and win the gold medal in the 29th Olympic Games held in Beijing!

there are obvious reasons why some western holidays are so popular in china. on the one hand, some of the western holidays which we chinese don’t have are reasonable and meaningful, such as father’s day and april fool’s day etc. on the other hand,the prevalence of globalization enables western culture to prevail in china. overwhelmed by such a trend,chinese unconsiciously get involved in western holidays and culture.
